SPECIFIEKE FOBIE<br />
• Leer, zo nodig en zo mogelijk, de patiënt praktische vaardigheden aan om met de<br />
fobische situatie om te gaan of om zich in die situatie zo adequaat mogelijk op te<br />
stellen.<br />
• Begeleid de patiënt actief (of laat dit doen door een goed geïnstrueerde, niet fobische<br />
vertrouwenspersoon van de patiënt) in de fobische situatie gedurende minimaal<br />
één langere (2 tot 3 uur) of meerdere kortere (4 tot 8 maal één uur) daadwerkelijke<br />
confrontaties met de fobische prikkel.<br />
• Laat de patiënt tussen de afspraken door (zowel begeleid als ook alleen) geregeld<br />
oefenen in confrontaties met de fobische prikkel.<br />
• Adviseer om ook na afloop van de behandeling geregeld actief de fobische situatie<br />
te blijven opzoeken.<br />
• Overweeg andere of aanvullende interventies wanneer na 8 uur therapie onvoldoende<br />
resultaat is geboekt.<br />

9.3 Beslisboom specifieke fobie<br />
Algemene opmerkingen<br />
• Bij een psychologische behandeling wordt in principe uitgegaan van wekelijkse<br />
zittingen. Bij specifieke fobie is het echter mogelijk om een aantal zittingen samen<br />
te voegen tot een langer durende zitting van twee of drie uur.<br />
• Wat betreft de uitvoering van de behandeling: deze kan in principe conform de wet<br />
BIG gedaan worden door een ieder die daartoe bekwaam is en zich daartoe in staat<br />
acht.<br />
• Bij twijfel over de diagnose, eventuele comorbiditeit of bij therapieresistentie,<br />
d.w.z. wanneer twee of meer behandelstappen niet tot het gewenste behandelresultaat<br />
geleid hebben, wordt geadviseerd een specialist (psychiater of psycholoog)<br />
te consulteren.<br />
