Er zijn onvoldoende gegevens over de duurzaamheid van de<br />
effecten van anxiety management.<br />
Overige overwegingen<br />
Op grond van de weinige gegevens die er wel zijn en op grond van het feit dat anxiety<br />
management veel elementen bevat van zowel cognitieve therapie, exposure en applied<br />
relaxation, mag worden verondersteld dat anxiety management ook op de langere<br />
termijn gunstige effecten kan hebben.<br />
Aanbeveling<br />
Gezien de beter bekende lange termijn effecten van cognitieve therapie<br />
en applied relaxation verdienen deze methodes de voorkeur boven anxiety<br />
management als mono-behandeling van eerste keuze.<br />
7.2.7 Algemene conclusies met betrekking tot de keuze van psychologische interventies<br />
bij GAS<br />
Hoewel diverse cognitief-gedragstherapeutische methodes effectief zijn op kortere en<br />
langere termijn, zijn effectgroottes weliswaar behoorlijk, maar niet indrukwekkend. Er<br />
valt nog veel winst te boeken boven de bestaande methodes. Hierdoor en op basis<br />
van het bestaande onderzoek naar de behandeling van GAS verdient het aanbeveling<br />
om Cognitieve Therapie vooralsnog de ‘psychologische hoofdinterventie’ te laten zijn<br />
bij de behandeling van GAS. Zo nodig kan deze interventie worden aangevuld met<br />
exposure, ‘Applied Relaxation en/of ‘Anxiety Management’.<br />
