de inspiratiebron voor Maastricht
geweest, zo ook voor deze editie van
de TEFAF Parade. Tijdens de TEFAF
bent u van 12 t/m 21 maart 2010 van

Maastricht shines during TEFAF
Maastricht and its star emblem have
always had a deep connection: the
star is emblazoned on the façade of
the Beluga restaurant , can be eaten
as a characteristic Maastricht chocolate
treat and features on the city’s
coat of arms, accompanied by an
angel. The star has been a source of
inspiration for Maastricht on many
occasions, not least for this edition of
the TEFAF Parade. During this year’s
TEFAF, taking place from 12 to 21
March 2010, a warm welcome awaits
you at numerous unique locations in
the city centre. Whilst walking from
gallery to shop and from museum to
restaurant, you will be amazed by the
many stars Maastricht has to offer.

late-night shopping evening is on Thursdays, with shops open until 9.00
p.m. There is an extra shopping Sunday on Sunday 14 March 2010. The
shops in the city centre and in Wyck are then open from 12.00 noon.

TEFAF Parade,
a city walk.

Knipoog naar een rijk verleden
Cultuur snuiven: dat doe je in
Maastricht. Al sinds de middeleeuwen
is de stad een culturele trekpleister, zo
getuigen de twee basilieken en ruim
1660 monumenten. Talrijke zichtbare
sporen van een rijk verleden tonen
Maastricht als Romeinse doorgangsstad,
middeleeuwse pelgrimsstad,
garnizoensstad en als stad waar de
Nederlandse industriële revolutie
begon.
Onder de grond bevinden zich
minstens evenveel historische
schatten: de Romeinse vondsten
uit de 2e, 3e en 4e eeuw, de krijgsbouw
kundige kaze matten en de door
mergel winning ontstane grotten. Het
Natuurhistorisch Museum Maastricht
toont fossielen van onder meer de 66
miljoen jaar oude mosasaurus Bèr.

Traces of a rich past
Maastricht is a great place for cultural
enjoyment. The city has been a cultural
hotspot since the Middle Ages,
as demonstrated by the two basilicas
and over 1660 monuments. Numerous
visible traces of a rich history showcase
Maastricht as a Roman border
checkpoint city, a pilgrimage city in
the Middle Ages, a garrison city and
the city where the Dutch Industrial
Revolution began.
There are just as many historical
treasures to be found underground:
Roman finds dating from the 2nd, 3rd
and 4th centuries, the battle monument
that is the kazematten network
of tunnels, and the caves created as a
result of marl extraction. The Natuurhistorisch
Museum Maastricht
(Maastricht Museum of Natural
History) exhibits fossils including
the 66-million-year-old mosasaurus

presenteert unieke tentoonstellingen,
video-vertoningen, lezingen en
discussies. NAiM/Bureau Europa

het oog. Zowel de eigentijdse exposities
in Centre Céramique als de 18e
eeuwse collecties van Museum aan
het Vrijthof geven elk een prachtig

Maastricht is practically synonymous

art and antique fair, TEFAF. At the
