So het oud-minister Vlok eerwaarde Chikane se voete gaan was. Hieroor skryf Asmal, Asmal en Roberts (1997:47): Genuine reconciliation involves moral and political restitution in the sense of the German term wiedergutmachung which means to ‘make good again’. We cannot really enter upon the process of making good the history of South Africa unless we acknowledge precisely what bad there is to undo. Boraine (2000:377) skryf: “A sure and certain test for reconciliation is whether it is accompanied by, or at least points to, the need for economic justice.” En August (2005:21) wys daarop dat versoening nie losgemaak kan word van rekonstruksie nie: “Critical to the process [of national reconciliation] is the realisation that reconciliation and reconstruction are flip sides of the same coin.”
Hieroor skryf Loubser (1987:188) al ‘n kwart eeu gelede: The prerequisites for recolciliation are not easy to comply with: it would require true Christian humility and self-denial from both Black and White Christians, who must be prepared to bear the cross of Christ to the end, challenging the idols, bridging divisions, and upholding one another’s rights to the point of self-hate. But then it should be remembered that Christianity was not founded on cheap grace. 6. Hierdie navorsing is deel van so ʼn proses. Die beskuldigings teen die kerk in die algemeen is dikwels bloot skuld deur assosiasie: “All apartheid presidents except F.W. de Klerk belonged to the Afrikaans Church, that is, the Dutch Reformed Church” (Gobodo-Madikizela 2004:69). Soms is dit baie meer direk: “Of course it is true that there were many, particularly in the Dutch Reformed Church, who used religion to support the pernicious doctrine of apartheid and all its attendant horrors” (Boraine 2000:267).
