Learning Objectives<br />
The goal of the MediaLab module is to enable the students take<br />
their media technology skills beyond their own limits. In this lab<br />
module, we will experiment with new technologies, techniques and<br />
processes.<br />
In the context of their master thesis, students will be coached/<br />
<strong>guide</strong>d in their developments for the master project. The lab will<br />
provided the necessary infrastructure for the experiments.<br />
Content<br />
This lab module is organised around different themes, depending<br />
on the current state of the art technologies and the preferences of<br />
the participants.<br />
Some example technologies that might be tackled are:<br />
- Multitouch interfaces,<br />
- Augmented reality,<br />
- Arduino hardware interfaces.<br />
The exact contents are discussed in the beginning of the module<br />
and will vary every academic year.<br />
Evaluation<br />
This module uses a permanent evaluation, based on the student’s<br />
attendance of the course, his/her active participation (preparation<br />
and discussion of topics) and developments of projects.<br />
For each session, the students has to prepare the topic at hand.<br />
Depending on the number of participants, the students will have to<br />
present 1 or more topics in the sessions.<br />
There is only one examination period.<br />
Tolerance is however possible.<br />
Educational concept<br />
This module is organised as a lab. In this lab, active sessions are<br />
organised:<br />
- Presentations by teachers and students<br />
- Experiments<br />
- Discussions<br />
- Exercises<br />
<strong><strong>Stud</strong>y</strong> material<br />
For each session, the appropriate study material will be prepared<br />
by the teachers and made available for the students.<br />
Entry level<br />
The students needs:<br />
- good knowledge of software development in the context of web<br />
applications,<br />
- basic notion of object-oriented development,<br />
- Interest in experimenting with new technologies (software and<br />
hardware).<br />
