Learning Objectives
Experimental Media tries to offer insight into the transition from
old to new media. Experimental Media aims at experimenting with
extisting technology and media and wants to integrate cross media
applications into usable concepts & prototypes.We expect the
students to step beyond their traditional views on media and to
critically engage with media.
Content
This module focusses on new forms of input and output for online
content, in the context of ongoing media changes. We study how
new technologies and mobile appliances create new possibilities.
Possibilities that stimulate the experiment but, on the other hand,
demand a critical attitude. This double research attitude (experimental
engagement and critical distance) is also a requirement for
the project work in the module. ‘Experimental Media’ provides the
student with the theoretical framework(s) that will assist him/her to
further develop an own critical perspective on these mediachanges.
The project work is based on a specific assignment. A number
of guest lectures will treat the subject of mediachanges from
different angles. The project should result in a prototype that pays
special attention to usability, experience and experiment.
Evaluation
The students will be assessed on the basis of a written paper
(individual) and a group project. The presentation of the project has
to clarify its development and the research involved. 50% paper,
50% project.
There is only one examination period.
Tolerance is however possible.

Entry level
A fascination for new media and insight in the possibilities of web
applications is required. The students are expected to be interested
in crossmedial and experimental applications.
