use <strong>of</strong> the Amazonian Biodiversity. The UNAMAZ also<br />

started a project with the UNESCO, which through its<br />

secretary helps with the implementation <strong>of</strong> the project<br />

“ The Management <strong>of</strong> the reserves <strong>of</strong> the Amazonian<br />

continental Biosphere”.<br />

Within the Thematic line <strong>of</strong> water resources , the<br />

UNAMAZ has organized a seminar –workshop in<br />

Rurrenabaque, Bolivia in 2007. The OTCA and other<br />

governmental organizations <strong>of</strong> different countries<br />

had participated. In or<strong>de</strong>r to continue with the activities<br />

the UNAMAZ realized finance for the organization<br />

and formulation <strong>of</strong> integrated actions <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Amazonian Bacin. The objective <strong>of</strong> the project is the<br />

formation <strong>of</strong> human resources at technical level from<br />

national organs responsible for actions <strong>of</strong> water resources<br />

in the Amazon. At the moment the project is<br />

being analyzed by donors.<br />

With regard to the theme <strong>of</strong> Health <strong>of</strong> the UNAMAZ<br />

the priority is insertion in the Pan-Amazonian network<br />

<strong>of</strong> Science, Technology and Innovation in Health<br />

(CT&IS). As a result <strong>of</strong> these work UNAMAZ is mem-<br />

ber <strong>of</strong> the Committee Pro-Pan Amazonian Network<br />

consisting <strong>of</strong> OTCA, PAHO/WHO.<br />

The proposal <strong>of</strong> the network is to stimulate and contribute<br />

for the implementation <strong>of</strong> politics and regional<br />

integration in the Amazonian for the <strong>de</strong>velopment<br />

and utilization <strong>of</strong> scientific, technological research,<br />

products and innovated processes, with the purpose<br />

to promote equity in health and the production <strong>of</strong><br />

technical capabilities to face problems at global, regional<br />

and national level”.<br />

Coming to the end <strong>of</strong> my brief presentation I once<br />

more want to emphasize that UNAMAZ as an Association<br />

<strong>of</strong> nearly 70 Higher Institutions fully wants to<br />

cooperate and contribute to the success <strong>of</strong> the Strategic<br />

Health Program <strong>of</strong> ACTO / PAHO.<br />

Finally may I wish the working groups and all participants<br />

to this Seminar a fruitful discussion in the<br />

coming hours.<br />
