Het cytologische beeld van pleuravocht bij patiënten met reumatoïde artritis
is vaak diagnostisch.
De bevinding in pleuravocht van de trias laag glucosegehalte, lage pH en hoog
LDH-gehalte ondersteunt de diagnose.
Medische thorascopie ter bevestiging van de diagnose RA geniet de voorkeur
boven blinde pleurabiopten vanwege de hogere diagnostische opbrengst. Het
PA-beeld van de verkregen (pariëtale pleura-) biopten is diagnostisch.
