.4.1 Chylothorax
Inleiding
Chylothorax is het aanwezig zijn van chylus in de thoraxholte. De meest voorkomende oorzaak
is een laesie van de ductus thoracicus, die de chylus uit de lymfvaten van het gehele lichaam
(behalve de rechterarm, rechterzijde van de nek en het hoofd en de rechterlong) vervoert naar
de linker vena subclavia. Vanuit de cisterna chyli, gelokaliseerd tussen L2 en de abdominale
aorta, loopt de ductus thoracicus rechts achter in de thorax, achter de aorta en later de vena
azygos. Hij passeert daarna ter hoogte van de vijfde of zesde thoracale wervel de oesofagus aan
de achterzijde om daarna links tussen de vena subclavia en jugularis interna uit te monden in
het veneuze systeem. Op dit verloop bestaan echter vele anatomische variaties.
