Introduction : Suriname inherited its civil law legal system from the Dutch and is
currently a member of the CARICOM and of the CARICOM Single
Market and Economy (CSME); a regional economic integration unity
that is primarily composed of former colonies of Great Britain.
All these former British colonies have a common law legal system,
which differs from the legal system as this is in operation in Suriname.
With reference
- to the globalization
- the necessity of States, particularly small Caribbean States, to join
together to compete in several sectors of the changing world, or to be
able to survive the impact of both global financial and economic
changes, these States must modify their approach to deal effectively with
these important issues.
Under the Treaty of Chaguaramas, establishing the CARICOM and the CSME,
professionals/university graduates are free to move among member states of the
CARICOM.
With this in mind, it is therefore necessary to provide the contemporary law student at de
