The Concertgebouw and partners invite you to
attend our autumn festival of Brazilian arts and
culture. This colourful, exciting event features a
rich sample of art forms from this vibrant Latin
American country ranging from dance, the
visual arts, film and architecture to economics,
gastronomy, theatre and music.
Brazil is widely known for its football, caipirinhas,
sambas, carnival and capoeira, but the Brasil
Festival Amsterdam goes beyond clichés. Brazil
is currently one of the world’s major growth
markets and boasts a broad spectrum of
remarkable culture which has grown out of three
major traditions – European, Indian and African.
Music is the best showcase for this dramatic
fusion. Brazil offers a wide range of different
styles: bossa nova, samba and Música Popular
Brasileira in contrast to the innovative Tropicália,
the emotive choro, Brazilian jazz, the art music
of composers like Villa-Lobos, contemporary
music, sultry Brazilectro and the Afro-Brazilian
maracatu all feature in our wide range of
performances by major Brazilian artists.
Brazil is a modern country in which tradition
and the avant-garde go hand in hand – from
innovative theatre and cutting-edge design to
rough street art and jazz of the highest calibre.
Come and join us and experience for yourself
all the exciting facets of Brazilian culture at the
