ElECTRiC ROTARy DRillS
electric rotary drills with lower wattage motors are
adequate for drilling small holes or for minimal use.
the more powerful motored machines will cope with
larger sized holes and is more suitable for frequent
use.
ANGlE DRillS
the angle drill is specifically designed for use in tight
areas. Its main feature is the angled neck. unlike a
conventional drill, the angle drill’s profile allows the
drill to be used at arm's length and in areas where
the body of a drill won’t fit.
HAMMER DRillS
the motor wattages for hammer drills start around
600 W and it is wiser to look out for machines with
a motor of around 700 W, which will enable you to
drill masonry with a drill bit of up to 16 mm.
CORDlESS DRillS
What to look for in a cordless drill:
Speed-range switch: generally two ratios, normally
selected by changing gearing. high is for drilling; low
is for driving screws. look for the widest range between
the two settings.
Voltage: a higher voltage means more drilling
power, but it can also mean more weight - don’t buy
a drill you won’t need, 12 volt drills are powerful
enough for most DIY users.
Battery: two are better than one. new nimh batteries
tend to be better because they deliver more
charge and last longer.
Clutch: Setting the clutch gives you greater control
of the depth to which screws are driven.
