Learning and Teaching Education Research CentreProgram:Part A:Research Training Scheme (<strong>RTS</strong>) Funding – for eligible RHD Students<strong>Guidelines</strong>1. BackgroundThe Learning and Teaching Education Research Centre is committed to providing funding support,under the Commonwealth’s Research Training Scheme (<strong>RTS</strong>) block grants program. TheCommonwealth provides Research Training Scheme (<strong>RTS</strong>) funds in block grants to support researchtraining for students undertaking Doctorate and Masters degrees by research. The aim is to assist andsupport in the development of research skills for Research Higher Degree students and their supervisorswho are aligned with the Centre. The <strong>RTS</strong> Grant funding component must only be used to assist <strong>RTS</strong>eligible students and affiliated supervisors.The exact level of support will be determined by the Centre Director each year in consultation with theCentre’s Management Committee.All funds allocated in one calendar year must be spent by 30 th November of the following year. Failureto apply successfully for the full amount of funds available will not see those funds carried over onbehalf of the staff member to subsequent years. Any unused remaining funds will be rolled back intoCentre funds for redistribution.2. EligibilityFull-time and part-time RHD students who meet the criteria established by the Government (as per theirwebsite, http://www.innovation.gov.au/Section/Research/Pages/ResearchTrainingScheme.aspx), will beconsidered for allocation of funds under this program, as available, once per calendar year. ResearchHigher Degree (RHD) eligible students will be determined through consultation with the respectiveFaculty Research Offices and the Office of Research.In principle, the program funding is applicable to eligible RHD students who are LTERC StudentMembers (RHD) and who have a principal supervisor who is a current Centre Member.Supervisors and RHD eligible students must be members of the Centre to access funds under thisprogram.3. Eligible activitiesThis program supports involvement in activities which have as their primary purpose the developmentof research skills. This may include activities relating to data collection and analysis eg travel for datacollection and/or interview transcriptions, training/professional development workshops, andconference attendance (where the student is presenting his/her research findings and/or the conferencehas provable benefit to the student’s research career).PRINT WARNING -Printed copies of this Document or part thereof should not be relied upon as a current reference document.ALWAYS refer to the electronic copy for the latest version.Page | 1 of 2
