of the course, students conduct practical tasks constructing the definitions of educational philosophy and<br />

aspects of its urgency. Students discuss the content components of the philosophy (metaphysics,<br />

epistemology, axiology) in connection with contemporary global and local issues of education. In the context<br />

of five main philosophical schools (idealism, realism, neo-thomism, pragmatism, existentialism), students<br />

analyze the structure, priorities, and philosophical contradictions of modern day educational system. During<br />

the second part of the course, students search for connections between the schools of philosophy and<br />

educational theories that are related to them. Besides historically significant educational theories<br />

(essentialism, progressivism, traditionalism, behaviorism, etc.), doctoral students share their opinions on the<br />

presently urgent theoretical trends connected with humanism, reconstructionism, futurism. A special<br />

emphasis is put on the educational philosophy and educational theories that can ground globally and locally<br />

important education for sustainable development. In conclusion, doctoral students acquire an inductive and<br />

deductive way for construction of personal educational philosophy and discuss the positive and negative<br />

aspects of both ways.<br />
