As a result of a study carried out in the framework of the program by the BBVA Foundation and the Ivie and
recently published by the BBVA Foundation, both these institutions organized in Valencia on December 14th a
seminar titled UNIVERSITIES, GRADUATES AND PRODUCTIVITY. In addition, it counted with the collaboration
of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia. The seminar was coordinated by Francisco Pérez
(Ivie, Universitat de Valencia and Ivie), who is the main author of the aforementioned study. The main purpose
of the seminar was to discuss the current situation of Spanish Universities focusing on the following questions:
how does the current Spanish university system compare with other countries, if there are major differences
between universities, what are the teaching and research results for Spanish universities, if their teaching
performance and research productivity are satisfactory, what characteristics can be found in the labour
transition of graduates, if university studies are productive for them and for the country. The seminar was
formally opened by Vicent Soler, Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia, and closed by
Esteban Morcillo, rector of the University of Valencia. Vicent Soler, Miguel Ángel Fernández (Polytechnic
University of Valencia) and Ismael Sanz (National Institute of educational evaluation) chaired the 3 sessions that
were held around the topics analyzed:

MEETINGS
Francisco Alcalá was speaker at the V CICLO DE CONFERENCIAS DE ECONOMÍA INTERNACIONAL 2012 that
was organized by the Chair for International Economics of the Faculty of Business and Economics of the
University of Zaragoza on April 19.
Joaquín Aldás gave the seminar THE ROLE OF CONFIRMATORY TETRAD ANALYSIS IN THE FORMATIVE VS.
REFLECTIVE LATENT CONSTRUCTS DEBATE, included in the Business and Economic Research master
course programmed by the University of Salamanca on February 27. He also gave the seminar
INTRODUCCIÓN A LA MODELIZACIÓN ESTRUCTURAL at the Miguel Hernández University in Elche (Alicante)
on June 4 and 6. In September he was speaker at the XXIV CONGRESO NACIONAL DE MARKETING which
took place in Palma de Mallorca. He directed the seminar TÉCNICAS MULTIVARIANTES DE ANÁLISIS DE
DATOS that was given at the CEGEA in the Polytechnic University of Valencia during the months of November
and December. In December he gave the seminar INTRODUCCIÓN A LA MODELIZACIÓN ESTRUCTURAL Y
MODELOS MULTIMUESTRA at the University of the Basque Country and the University of Vigo.
