José García Montalvo (Universitat Pompeu Fabra)<br />
Dr García Montalvo is a Professor of Applied Economics at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). He graduated<br />
in Economics from the Universitat de València in 1987 with special honors. He received the First National<br />
Graduation Prize (1988, Ministry of Education and Science), followed by a PhD in Economics from Harvard<br />
University (1993). In 2008 he was awarded the ICREA Acadèmia distinction prize for his research work. He<br />
was rewarded with the 2010 Knowledge Transfer Award of the Board of Trustees of the UPF. He is currently<br />
Vice-rector of Science Policy of UPF and consultant to the OECD, the World Bank and the Inter-American<br />
Development Bank. His research is concentrated on themes connected with econometrics, economic<br />
development, the labor market for youth and the economy of the housing market. He was Guest Lecturer at<br />
the Department of Economics at Harvard (1996) and worked for a year as a researcher in the Technology and<br />
Economic Policy Program of the Kennedy School of Government (1995). He has published 12 books and more<br />
than 100 articles in American Economic Review, Economic Journal, European Economic Review, Journal of<br />
Business and Economic Statistics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Growth and<br />
Review of Economics and Statistics, among others. He is the main researcher on the National R&D Plan<br />

Francisco J. Goerlich (Universitat de València)<br />
Dr Goerlich graduated and obtained a PhD in Economics from the Universitat de València. He also holds a<br />
M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics & Political Science (University of London). He is<br />
currently a Professor at the Department of Economic Analysis at the Universitat de València. His research fields<br />
are macroeconomics, regional economics and applied econometrics. He is co-author of various books, among<br />
which worth mentioning are those for the BBVA Foundation Capitalización y crecimiento en España y sus<br />
regiones 1955 1995, La evolución económica de las provincias españolas, 1995-1998 (2 volumes). La<br />
localización de la población española sobre el territorio, Actividad y territorio. Un siglo de cambios, Desigualdad<br />
y bienestar social: de la teoría a la práctica, as well as Una grid de densidad de población para España. He has<br />
published his work in specialized journals such as Applied Economics, Econometric Theory, Economics Letters,<br />
Empirical Economics, Journal of Income Distribution, Population, Regional Studies, Review of Income and<br />
Wealth, Investigaciones Económicas, Moneda y Crédito, Revista Española de Economía, Revista de Economía<br />
Aplicada and Investigaciones Regionales, among others. He has participated in various national and<br />
international congresses, both on his own initiative and as a guest. He is currently associate researcher of the<br />
National R&D Plan Project ECO2011-23248, Productividad y competitividad en la sociedad del conocimiento:<br />
desarrollo metodológico y análisis empírico.<br />
Carmen Herrero (Universidad de Alicante)<br />
Doctor Herrero graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid and obtained her PhD in Mathematics<br />
from the Universitat de València. She is currently Professor of Foundations of Economic Analysis at the<br />
University of Alicante. Her latest research focuses on the application of axiomatic techniques to the analysis of<br />
distributive problems, particularly justice and equity analysis related to health. She has recently been Visiting<br />
Lecturer at the Universities of California (Davis) and Rochester, and has given courses at the Barcelona<br />
Graduate School of Economics, the University of Paris X (Nanterre) and at the Institute of Advanced Studies of<br />
Vienna. She has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Social Choice and Welfare review and the<br />
