KviklienėSummaryIn 1996 at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture there were conducted fruitlet thinningtrials and in 2002 – the trials of determination of optimum harvest date in order toensure the highest apple fruit quality. The aim of investigations was to estimate the influenceof thinning time and various chemicals on apple fruit quality and alternate bearing.Four apple cultivars ‘Ligol’‚‘Lodel’, ‘Alva’ and ‘Shampion’ on M.26 rootstock weretested. There were investigated physiological and biochemical changes during maturationperiod. The effect of apple maturity on fruit quality and storage ability was investigated too.Key words: fruitlet thinning, fruit quality, optimum harvest date.134
