LanauskasSummaryEvaluation of all fruit crop rootstocks is being performed at the Lithuanian Institute ofHorticulture. The most comprehensive studies are established with apple rootstocks, but pear,plum and cherry rootstocks research is enlarging too. More than 30 apple, 15 pear, 6 plum and28 cherry rootstocks were evaluated during the last two decades. Dwarfing rootstocks P 60,B.396 and M.9 and superdwarf P 22 and P 59 were registered for intensive orchards in Lithuania.Two winterhardy pear rootstocks K.11 and K.16 were selected at LIH. These rootstocks alongwith polish S1 are recommended for Lithuania. Rootstock research projects are establishedin following d<strong>ir</strong>ections: rootstock and location interaction; budding high effect on rootstockperformance; interstock trials; rootstock effect on fruit quality, ripening time and fruit storage;rootstock and tree training system; v<strong>ir</strong>us status of apple planting material on different rootstocks;rootstock and soil sickness in nursery and orchard; rootstock adaptability to soil pH; rootstockresistance to Phytophtora; rootstock response to <strong>ir</strong>rigation; rootstock effect on tree physiologicalparameters and flower physiology; rootstock effect on tree nutrition; rootstock and dry matteraccumulation.
