ZalatoriusSummaryInvestigations of the yield of onions grown from seedlings were carried out at theLithuanian Institute of Horticulture in 2001-2003. There were investigated edible onions(Allium Cepa L.) Lietuvos didieji, Stutgarten Riesen, Centurion F 1, Jetset F 1.It is possible to grow for early yield the onions of all the investigated cultivars andhybrids. After 85 days (25 07) marketable yield of the turnips of onion cultivar Centurionwas 24.7 t/ha, Stutgarten Riesen – 22.0 t/ha, Jetset F 1– 21.0 t/ha, Lietuvos didieji –14.9 t/ha. The biggest output of the marketable production of onion cultivar CenturionF 1was obtained after 99 days, Stutgarten Riesen – after 113 days. Onion cultivarsCenturion F 1and Stutgarter Riesen gathered more lately produced the biggest yield.The yield of onion cultivars Centurion F 1and Stutgarter Riesen is big, but whenthey are gathered more early the losses are bigger. When onion cultivars Lietuvos didiejiand Jetset F 1were gathered more early the yield losses were smaller. When suitablecultivars are chosen and onions are grown from seedlings it is possible to get early onionyield in the second decade of July.Key words: early yield, hybrids, turnip, seedlings, onions, cultivar.151
