KarklelienëSummaryEconomical and biological properties of the perspective Lithuanian and foreigncultivars and hybrids of edible carrots (Daucus sativus Röhll.) were investigated andevaluated at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture in 2003-2005. There wereinvestigated carrots of Nanto type – Svalia F 1, Garduolës, Flamanka F 1, Tempo F 1,Primo F 1, Bersky F 1, Senior F 1, Valor F 1, Major F 1, Jaguar F 1, Tito, Magi, Monanta, ofNantes/Berlikum type – Skalsa F 1and of Berlikum type – Bangor F 1. Morphologicalcharacteristics (the length, diameter and mass of root-crop) were analyzed, the yieldand the amount of carotene in carrots was evaluated. It was established that root cropsof carrot cultivar Bangor F 1are the longest (23.9 cm), of biggest diameter (4.3 cm) andmass (166.7 g). These carrots are productive and of excellent marketable appearance.Carrots of Lithuanian selection accumulate on the average 19.4 mg 100 g -1 of carotene.Key words: yield, hybrids, carotene, morphological characteristics, carrots,cultivars.115
