SPORTO MOKSLAS
and D. Rasimovičiūtė, the second – for A. Novoselskis
and V. Rumiancevas and the first for M. Strolia and
M. Vaičiulis. After the 20 th Winter Olympic Games
in Torino had ended, according to the decision (23 rd
March, 2006, No 7) of Executive Committee of
Lithuanian National Olympic Committee (LNOC), the
Experts Commission was formed which analyzed the
results of Lithuanian athletes in the Games and gave
recommendations on how to prepare the national team
for 21 st Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. When
comprehensively considering winter sports athletes’
training system in our country and evaluating their
training peculiarities, possibilities and weaknesses,
the programme “Vancouver 2010” was formed. Today
we can state that those development goals of winter
representatives have achieved results parallel to their
possibilities.
After the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver have
ended we already have to think of athletes who could
be delegated to the 22 nd Winter Olympic Games in
Sochi (Russia). Sport federations and other concerned
sport organizations will play an important role as well
as important will be attention and actions of cities and
districts municipalities in athletes’ training process.
When trying to look wider, excluding goals set after
Torino Olympic Games and left them unrealized (and
they must be realized!), it is needed to stay unconfined
with “traditional” sport disciplines and to think of
possibilities how to develop such skiing disciplines
- acrobatic skiing, various snow boarding contests -
that do not claim for many investments. Nevertheless
the main task in developing winter sport in Lithuania
remains the same – establishing conditions. And this is
a concern of nation and municipalities.
Keywords: Winter Olympic Games, Olympic cycle,
programme, traditional sport disciplines.
