46 Suse Kohler THE

46 Suse Kohler THE MASTER OF CONCRETE LIGHTNESS Women are taking over the art market slowly but surely. One of the latest discoveries is Suse Kohler from Tegernsee. The newcomer is making waves with her large format portraits. Her “Seemänner” (lake men), portraits of great personalities who have had a relationship to Tegernsee, draw the viewer in immediately. The portraits are edgy and powerful, and painted with generous strokes in black and white on 1.40 x 1 meters. In one glance, they reveal the essence of politicians such as Franz Joseph Srauß, Ludwig Erhard, Helmut Kohl and Michail Gorbatschow and artists such as Olaf Gulbransson, Leo Slezak and Ludwig Thoma. Suse Kohler has achieved this, although she only recently began to seriously dedicate herself to painting.

The native of Oberammergau already noticed during her marketing studies, that she was fascinated by paintings, and that she had a talent for painting. But only recently, since her four children are now “more or less independent”, was she able to dedicate her attention to painting. Straight away, using her existing portfolio, she was able to snatch up one of the most coveted 15 spots at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (Academy of Fine Art) in Kolbermoor, which is managed by the famous painter and sculptor, Markus Lüpertz. Her education is still in progress but Suse Kohler’s works are already sought after. The paintings in the Kohler family’s hotel, the distinguished Bachmair Weissach, are a sight to see. Helmut Kohl The artist purposely paints only with acrylics: “The paintings gain depth through the lightness of the paints. It highlights the multi-dimensional nature of the respective personality”, explains Suse Kohler. Of course, the chosen background colour also contributes to it as well, for example turquoise for Ludwig Thoma, or pink for Gulbransson. Intense and nevertheless empathetically sensitive, far from all the portrait splendour of the old masters, the “Seemänner” are a true artistic discovery. The portraits are high art, modern, upbeat and real eye-catchers. We are looking forward to additional works!
