Of course, she especially loves the mountains of her Upper Bavarian home. And just like little Viktoria did many years ago, the next generation of skiers is still out and about on the mountains around Lake Tegernsee. Where do Olympic champions start their skiing careers? On the hill behind the house and on the Hirschberg. At least if your name is Vicky Rebensburg and you skied your way to the top of the alpine world from Kreuth. Viktoria Rebensburg was Olympic champion, vice world champion, was already German champion in super-G at the age of 16 and has won a total of 17 World Cup victories. Vicky was not only a huge talent, she is also the best proof that you don't have to grow up in a big ski resort to make it to the top of the world. In fact, she started her career on the snow hill in her backyard in Kreuth, "That's where I put a run in with ski poles and 'trained”.

MountainWomensTalk – Foto: Mia Maria Knoll Of course, she also skied up and down the Hirschberg slope, from the first lift ride to the last. "It's simply my local mountain and it has had a strong influence on me," Vicky says of the small ski area, where pretty much every local dwarf and also the many young guests far beyond the Tegernsee Valley learn to ski. The up-and-coming skiers are then met at Sonnenbichl in Bad Wiessee, where the ski center offers the best training facilities and where European Cup races are also held. It exemplifies the enthusiasm for skiing in the region, "where the ski clubs have joined forces and the Förderverein Schneesport Tegernseer Tal is so committed to promoting young talent." And what does Vicky do when she's at home - now that she's not sticking runs on the snow hill in her backyard? "I go ski touring, freeriding on the Wallberg or start on the cross-country ski trail right outside the front door." Customs officer Vicky enjoys her home to the fullest (she can do that, too, because she doesn't get out of breath that quickly) and in all its diversity: "Our region is so rich in variety and everything is so close together. Lake and mountain, tobogganing and snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and skiing." There's plenty to do. Even for an Olympic champion. Vicky's Tegernsee tips Good taste: Café Angermaier in Rottach-Egern not only serves delicious cakes, but also really good food. I buy my cheese at the natural cheese dairy Tegernseer Land and my fish at the fish farm in Wildbad-Kreuth. Great tour: up to the Buchsteinhütte, reward yourself with generous portions on the sun terrace and then ski down the beautiful toboggan run to the valley. All variants: On the Wallberg there are super ski routes in deep snow, on which I like to be on the road. But of course the Hirschberg is very special for me and just perfect for kids and families.
