Discoverer of Karl

Discoverer of Karl Valentin He also discovered the comedic genius of Karl Valentin after he had been involved in the construction of a small stage in Ganghofer’s Munich apartment in 1896 as a 14-year-old carpenter’s apprentice. Ganghofer gave him his first stage appearance there immediately after the construction of the in-house “Brettls” and thus founded Karl Valentin’s career as a worldfamous comedian! 18 Death in Tegernsee Ludwig Ganghofer had numerous residences: Vienna, various hunting lodges in Tyrol and Bavaria, and from 1885 Munich. On the advice of Ludwig Thoma, he bought his house in the town of Tegernsee after World War I, the “Villa Maria” at Schwaighofstraße 170, where a memorial plaque is located today. The great writer could not enjoy his beautiful residence for a long time: Ludwig Ganghofer died on July 24, 1920. His grave is in the cemetery of the St. Laurentius Church in Rottach- Egern, right next to the grave of his friend Ludwig Thoma. His bronze sculpture can be admired in the Rottach-Egern spa complex – together with those of Ludwig Thoma and Leo Slezak. Ursula Seeböck-Forster Ganghofer- Denkmal im Kurpark Rottach-Egern
