Portrait of an Artist SABINA BOCKEMÜHL Touch the Soul in a Portrait She does not create mere copies, but instead depicts what her model feels and carries in their soul. This is the central focus of the artist from Murnau, who caused a sensation with her massive colour portraits and fascinating cow paintings. format, tremendously captivating cow paintings, which show that each and every animal also has their own personality. Sabina Bockemühl looks sensitively behind the facade, feels the being in her paintings and ferrets out the soul of her counterpart. The beholder is fascinated at how one can perceive the familiar faces of famous personalities completely different all of a sudden. In her series “Strong Women” she created portraits of, among others, Hannelore Elsner, Maria Furtwängler, Alice Schwarzer and Jutta Speidel. “I can place myself inside women, but of course I also enjoy painting interesting men”, explains the artist laughing in her studio in the Yellow House in Murnau. Following her studies with Ricci con Riggenbach and Prof. Markus Lüpertz, she moved to the captivating landscape surrounding Lake Staffelsee, where artists like Franz Marc, Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky once lived and worked.
