134 „ Die Start-up-Kultur ist in den USA und auch in GB viel weiterverbreitet als auf dem europäischen Festland. Haben Sie eine Erklärung dafür? HH: Ich lebe ja schon seit über 30 Jahren in Großbritannien und habe deshalb ein gutes Gefühl für den Kontrast zwischen angelsächsischer und kontinentaleuropäischer Kultur. Der Hauptunterschied: in Kontinentaleuropa steht die Gesellschaft im Vordergrund, in den angelsächsischen Ländern das Individuum. Das bedeutet, dass man dem Individuum mehr zutraut und es auch unterstützt. Ein Misserfolg wird nicht so stark verübelt, sofern es die Person mit Fleiß und bestem Wissen und Gewissen versucht hat. „ Sie haben früher als andere PCs und Tablets entwickelt. Haben Sie Ihre Karriere Ihrer Risikobereitschaft zu verdanken? HH: Richtig. Irgendwie hat die Risikobereitschaft schon damit begonnen, dass mich mein Vater mit 15 nach England geschickt hat, damit ich dort Englisch lerne. Es zeigt sich oft, dass Leute, die das Risiko „ Start-up culture is much more widely spread in the US, and even in Great Britain, than it is in continental Europe. How would you explain this phenomenon? HH: I‘ve lived in GB for over 30 years, and so I’ve gained a good sense of the contrast between Anglo-Saxon and continental European culture. The main difference is that in continental Europe, society is at the forefront of people’s thinking, whereas in the Anglo-Saxon countries, the individual fills this position. This means that more trust is placed in individuals, and such people find support more readily. A person is not resented quite as much for failing in a venture as long as they’ve tried with diligence, sound knowledge and a clear conscience. „ You have started developing PCs and tablets sooner than others. Do you owe your career to your willingness to take risks? HH: Precisely. Somehow my willingness to take risks was encouraged even at age 15, when my father sent me to England in order to properly study English there.
