The BLUES and The Houston Police Department both honored him with Lifetime Achievement Awards. He’s earned the title Mr. Philantrophy and he’s seen here with Memorial Hermann President David Callender thanking him for donating to the Children’s Memorial Hospital. Next month, we’ll look back at his 40 years of support to The BLUES Magazine. FEATURE: Rick Fernandez, former Pearland Officer celebrates 20 years in business @ Cop Stop. Twenty Years ago, Rick Fernandez, a Pearland Cop, had a vision of opening a business in a city that he grew up in and one that he once patrolled as one of its officers. That business, Cop Stop, opened in 2003 in a fraction of the space it currently occupies today. “Cop Stop started out as a vision. I put my thoughts on paper. I didn’t have the money to open a storefront at the time until one day, my grandfather told me, ‘Just do it!’ and loaned me the money I needed! I was standing there in the living room and my ideas went from a vision to reality in an instant! My mother retired early so she could help work the counter. This has been truly a family affair,” Fernandez said.
