and hugged me. Tears streamed down her face and I could tell that she seemed relieved that someone was there to help her and that she was safe. I drove downtown and met with internal affairs. I spent three hours going over everything Ms. Miller has said with the two detectives and their Lieutenant. They called my sergeant and filled him in. Everyone decided that we’d all meet at the apartments the following day to question Ms. Miller and take Joe in for questioning. I called Susan back and gave her the news. Stay home and I’ll see you in the morning. The next day, I arrived at the apartment office around 9am. I walked in and was greeted by the apartment manager. I asked to see Ms. Miller and the manager said, “Sorry she hasn’t made it in yet. Actually, she was supposed to me here at 8am. Do you want me to call her?” No, I’ll just walk over to her apartment. Her apartment was just around the corner and it didn’t take but a minute to get there. I knocked repeatedly and got no answer. I called her and got her voicemail. I had a horrible feeling that something wasn’t right. I went back to the office and asked the manager for master key. She had no idea what was going on and why would I be asking for a master key. About that time, two detectives from Internal Affairs walked in the door. “Should I have our resident officer come up here to assist you guys?” she asked. We all replied at once….NO!!!!!! We’re ok, we’ll just go check on her ourselves and please don’t call anyone. We walked upstairs to the apartment and I unlocked the door. Susan, its Officer Barret. Are you here? Ms. Miller? “Barrett, the bedroom and bathroom are clear. She’s not here” I told her to stay here and not leave, I told her to lock….. I turned around and looked at the door and the security chain wasn’t there. The bracket on the wall was torn off and pieces of wood were scattered on the floor. Guys, she’s gone! Someone took her!
