A fantastic collection consisting of more than
4000 pieces, including the oil tins produced
by the most important Ligurian factories,
examples of national products and packaging
designed for various types of food. The
emigrants who yearned for their homeland
were not satisfied with the “usual tin”: they
wanted it to be beautiful and decorated
with prestigious symbols. Thus, the historical
brands were created for this reason. In
Imperia, during the first few decades of the
1900s, these expatriates did just that,
focusing their efforts on lithography as if it
were precious paper, and creating oil but
also tuna tins with faded but also refined
colours. Another particular feature was the
wording: in fact, instead of being named
after its producer, the oil referred to images
of Italy, since the consumers for these tins
were the emigrants in America.
