Georgian Lexical Units in Russian Jargon
Summary
The article deals with several Georgian words which are testified in Russian speech
and are registered in Jargon Dictionaries. These words usually have a derogatory
ironic meaning. The examples of such words are: anthroponyms: Gogia, Gogi,
Givi, Vano, Koba, etc; Russian jargon words containing the endings denoting
Georgian family names: -shvili, or -dze, such as Mudashvili – a stupid
person,Vlominadze – laziness.
Other words of Georgian origin can also be used ironically in Russian jargon:
Rkatsiteli (a sort of Georgian wine), used to refer to a sculptor Zurab Tsereteli;
Borjomi a modified form used to refer to an American musical group "Bon
Jovie", Tamada – an active self-imposed female person at the feast, etc.
