The Second Subjunctive with -a and -e Suffixes in Middle Georgian
Summary
The derivation with -a and -e suffixes is different in Old and New Georgian.
In Old Georgian in verbs having Aorist without a marker and with -i element (I
and II patterns) the distribution of these formative markers of the screeve is
determined by the structure of the basic morpheme. The factor of the category of
voice is also introduced as a foundation of the distribution of affixes in New
Georgian. In Middle Georgian the distribution of -a and -e suffixes with verbs of
this type is mostly similar to that of New Georgian. However, in written
monuments of this period the situation of Old Georgian is found as well. The
demonstration of old and new forms depends on the themes of a written text. The
choice of parallel forms (gaiWras // gaiWres) in most cases has the stylistic basis.
