The Second Subjunctive with -a and -e Suffixes in Middle Georgian<br />

Summary<br />

The derivation with -a and -e suffixes is different in Old and New Georgian.<br />

In Old Georgian in verbs having Aorist without a marker and with -i element (I<br />

and II patterns) the distribution of these formative markers of the screeve is<br />

determined by the structure of the basic morpheme. The factor of the category of<br />

voice is also introduced as a foundation of the distribution of affixes in New<br />

Georgian. In Middle Georgian the distribution of -a and -e suffixes with verbs of<br />

this type is mostly similar to that of New Georgian. However, in written<br />

monuments of this period the situation of Old Georgian is found as well. The<br />

demonstration of old and new forms depends on the themes of a written text. The<br />

choice of parallel forms (gaiWras // gaiWres) in most cases has the stylistic basis.<br />
