L’angolo del Direttore
Lo scorso dicembre si è tenuta a San Vito di Cadore la Conferenza
Nazionale del Turismo Montano, in un momento di pausa dei lavori,
quando la chiacchiera diventa il momento di incontro tra la propria
esperienza ed i contenuti delle relazioni, un albergatore ci disse:
”Mi è interessato molto l’intervento del meteorologo, perché per
prima cosa a noi serve che qui nevichi d’inverno e d’estate faccia
caldo in pianura”.
Neve ne è caduta in questi mesi invernali, una spruzzatina prima
delle feste di Natale, poi copiosa a partire da metà gennaio.
Neve e poi giornate assolate, fredde ma anche miti, che hanno
consentito una bella e lunga stagione invernale. Neve che ha
ricoperto le rocce dolomitiche, che ha ridato un po’ di spessore
ai ghiacciai alpini, che ha riempito le valli bellunesi e che ora sta
dando vigore ai mille ruscelli, agli innumerevoli corsi d’acqua, ai
tanti laghetti, al Piave.
Ecco l’acqua, certamente uno degli elementi caratterizzanti la
montagna in primavera. Visitare, fruire torrenti, fiumi e laghi: ecco
una delle sollecitazioni contenute in questo numero di Dolomiti
Belluno for me. Andar per acque, certo, ma a Pedavena o in una
delle birrerie artigianali che si trovano nel bellunese, fermatevi per
una buona birra.
Non perdete l’occasione di conoscere più da vicino l’artigianato di
Cortina d’Ampezzo, le usanze di Sappada, le tradizioni locali, tra
le caratteristiche rogazioni della Conca Agordina ed una visita al
Museo Etnografico provinciale.
E poi ancora tante passeggiate nella natura, da Belluno all’Alpago,
dal Comelico allo Zoldano, le ultime discese sulle piste, proposte
per un’escursione in bici in Alto Cadore, tanti eventi per gli
appassionati dello sport, per una primavera all’insegna della voglia
di stare all’aria aperta.

La pesca rappresenta una delle attrazioni turistiche della nostra
provincia. Le nostre Dolomiti, le nostre montagne sono sinonimo
di bellezza, eccellenza e qualità.
L’amministrazione provinciale è al lavoro perché anche le nostre
acque costituiscano un fattore di pregio e di eccellenza per i
turisti pescatori.
La carpa nel lago del Corlo, il coregone e il persico nel lago di
Santa Croce, il persico e la trota nel lago di Centro Cadore, le
fario autoctone nei torrenti del Boite, dell’Ansiei, del Maè, del
Cordevole e nei loro affluenti, rappresentano un’opportunità per
tutti gli appassionati che scelgono di pescare nelle nostre acque.
Sono molte inoltre le zone no-kill per quanti amano la cattura e
il successivo rilascio in acqua. Infine le zone elette per la trota
marmorata, il Piave e il Cismon, dove la Provincia sta attuando
un grande progetto di sostegno alla riproduzione di questa
particolare trota. Un’opera realizzata in stretta collaborazione con
i Bacini di pesca e con gli stessi pescatori, responsabili custodi e
gestori delle nostre preziose acque.

Editor’s corner
Last December, San Vito di Cadore played host to the National
Conference on Mountain Tourism. During one of the breaks, one of
those moments when participants have a chance to chat together
and thus bring their own personal experiences to the themes
dealt with in the various conference papers and reports, one of
the hoteliers present told us: ”I was particularly interested in the
speech given by the meteorologist, because what we need here
above all is snow in the winter and hot weather on the plain in
the summer”. Snow certainly did fall during the winter months, a
smattering of it before Christmas, then heavier falls from mid-
January onwards. Snow, and then sunny days, some cold, others
milder, which gave us a fine, long winter season. Snow which
covered the rocks of the Dolomites, gave a little depth back to the
alpine glaciers, filled the valleys of Belluno and is now melting to
swell thousands of streams, numerous waterways, a whole range
of lakes, the River Piave. This water is undoubtedly one of the
characteristic features of the mountains in the springtime. Visit,
and enjoy, torrents, rivers and lakes: this is one of the activities
we warmly recommend in this edition of Dolomiti Belluno for me.
Explore not only our many waterways – stop off and enjoy the fine
beer which is made from our water, in Pedavena or at one of the
other small local breweries. Make sure you don’t miss the chance
to take a closer look at the arts and crafts of Cortina, the customs
of Sappada and the local traditions, by taking a visit to the
Provincial Ethnographical Museum or watching the characteristic
Rogation processions in the Agordo Basin. And then of course we
have plenty of agreeable nature walks to suggest, from Belluno
to the Alpago, from the Comelico to the Zoldano areas; the last
days’ skiing on the slopes for the season; a few recommendations
for cycle trips in the Alto Cadore area, and all sorts of events for
sports fans to enjoy springtime out in the open air.

Fishing is among the most important tourist attractions in our
province. Our mountains, the Dolomites, are synonymous with
beauty, excellence and quality, and the provincial administration is
hard at work ensuring that visitors who come here to fish will find
the same beauty, excellence and quality in our lakes and rivers.
Carp in Corlo Lake, whitefish and perch in Santa Croce Lake,
perch and trout in Centro Cadore Lake, autochthonous brown
trout in the Boite, Ansiei, Maè and Cordevole Torrents and their
tributaries: there are a host of opportunities for anglers visiting
us to practise their favourite sport, including plenty of no-kill
zones for those who prefer to return their catch to the water. And
finally, the Piave and Cismon Rivers are home to the marble trout,
a particular species for which the Province is carrying out an
important breeding support project, with the close collaboration
of the local fishing basins and anglers, who are at the forefront of
protecting and looking after our precious waters.

Torna la primavera sulle montagne del Bellunese. Ed ecco che,
con la bella stagione, torna anche l’emozione di una passeggiata
rilassante, immersa nella natura che poco a poco inizia il suo risveglio
e ci conduce, passo dopo passo, a scoprire tutta la magia del
territorio Bellunese.
Percorsi “minori”, magari solo perché vicini ai centri abitati o meno
impegnativi e perciò esclusi dal circuito delle frequentazioni più alla
moda, dalle Alte vie ai tracciati CAI. Eppure, sentieri con un proprio
fascino innegabile e con tutte le carte in regola per soddisfare famiglie,
bambini ed anziani. Sono 28 gli itinerari curati dalla Comunità
Montana Cadore Longaronese Zoldo, che in questi ultimi anni
è intervenuta per sistemarli ed abbellirli con significativi interventi
di recupero ambientale. Per ogni tracciato è stata predisposta una
scheda che fornisce l’essenziale di tutte le informazioni necessarie
ad intraprendere il percorso: ecco che, accanto a distanze, dislivelli,
tempi di percorrenza e grado di difficoltà, il turista troverà indicazioni
relative alla stagione più adatta per affrontare il percorso e
notizie utili o semplicemente piacevoli per scoprire un po’ alla volta
questo piccolo mondo. Alle notizie storiche e culturali sul territorio,
si accompagnano così proposte di piatti tipici, curiosità e piccoli
segreti che svelano gli aspetti più interessanti della passeggiata. Le
schede, disponibili a partire da aprile anche raccolte in un elegante
cofanetto, sono state curate dalla Comunità Montana, in collaborazione
con i Comuni, Dolomiti Turismo, le Pro Loco, il Consorzio di
Promozione Turistica Valzoldana e gli Uffici Informazione ed Accoglienza
Turistica della Valle, dove sono fin d’ora in distribuzione le

Spring returns once more to the mountains of Belluno, and with it
the pleasure of taking a relaxing walk in the heart of nature, which
little by little begins to stir from its winter slumbers and gradually
guides us through all the magic of the Belluno area.
These are considered “minor” routes, perhaps just because they
are close to towns and villages, or relatively easy and therefore
excluded from the more fashionable hiking circuits such as the
Alte Vie or the Italian Alpine Club trails. However, these paths
undoubtedly offer a series of attractions, and are perfectly suitable
for the elderly and families with children. There are 28 such routes
in the Zoldano area, looked after by the Comunità Montana
Cadore Longaronese Zoldo, which in recent years has carried out
considerable environmental remediation work to repair and enhance
the trails. For each route, an information file is available which
provides everything hikers need to know before setting out: as well
as indications of distances, level differences, times required and
levels of difficulty, you will find advice on the best season to tackle
each route and useful, or merely interesting, information which will

help you to gradually learn more about this
fascinating environment. Information on the
history and culture of the area goes hand
in hand with suggestions regarding typical
dishes, interesting anecdotes and a host of
little secrets which reveal the most interesting
aspects of the itinerary. The files, which will
be available together in an attractive boxed
set from April onwards, have been prepared
by the Comunità Montana, in collaboration
with the municipalities of the area, Dolomiti
Turismo, the Pro Loco tourist offices, the
Valzoldana Tourist Promotion Association and
the Tourist Information Offices in the Valley,

Una finestra di cultura, natura e benessere

Nelle belle giornate di sole, quando tutt’intorno si spande il profumo delle prime fioriture primaverili, ecco l’occasione per una tranquilla
passeggiata lungo la strada Panoramica del Comelico. Si parte da Costalissoio di Santo Stefano di Cadore (m. 1249), la Costa del
Sole che da sempre accoglie turisti e valligiani alla ricerca dei benefici dell’elioterapia: ed ecco che, da questa “finestra” sul Comelico, si
aprono panorami mozzafiato, che spaziano dalla valle del Piave a quella del Padola. Una breve sosta per una visita al Museo surrealista
Regianini, e poi via, verso Costalta di San Pietro di Cadore (m. 1303). Culla culturale ladina del Comelico –da visitare il museo etnografico
Angiul Sai-, Costalta è il paese di legno, delle case lignee della vecchia tradizione cadorina. Per promuovere la valorizzazione di quest’antico
patrimonio architettonico, l’associazione CostaltArte organizza fin dal 2000 la manifestazione “Una statua di legno, in una casa di
legno, in un paese di legno”: davanti all’ingresso delle vecchie abitazioni, ogni anno tre scultori si danno appuntamento l’ultima settimana
di luglio per realizzare, sotto gli occhi dei visitatori, le sculture che andranno ad arricchire questo originale ed unico museo all’aperto.

On one of those fine sunny days when the scent of the first spring flowers in bloom fills
the air all around you, why not take a peaceful stroll along the Comelico panoramic road?
The Costa del Sole begins in Costalissoio di Santo Stefano di Cadore (1249 m), and has
always been popular for heliotherapy. From this “window” on the Comelico area, breathtaking
landscapes open out before your eyes, sweeping from the Piave to Padola valleys. After a
brief stop to visit the Regianini Surrealist Art Museum, you can head off once more towards
Costalta di San Pietro di Cadore (1303 m). The very cradle of Comelico’s Ladin culture
(which you can learn more about at the Angiul Sai Ethnographical Museum), Costalta is also
known as the “village of wood”, because of its traditional Cadore-style wooden houses. In
order to protect and enhance this important architectural legacy, in 2000 the CostaltArte
Association began organizing the yearly event “Una statua di legno, in una casa di legno, in
un paese di legno”: in front of the entrance to the old houses, three sculptors meet every
year during the last week of July to create the sculptures – carved live before the very eyes
of curious onlookers – which will form part of this ever-growing open-air museum.

Quando le giornate si allungano ed i tepori primaverili permettono alla neve di
sciogliersi gradualmente, ecco che inizia il periodo magico delle prime escursioni
in quota. Facile, ma impegnativo per la sua lunghezza (5 ore), è il percorso
che da San Vito conduce a Forcella Roàn. Dal centro di San Vito si raggiunge
il ponte del Moro, in prossimità del laghetto di Mosigo, e, per un’ampia strada
asfaltata, si sale al pianoro di Senes dove i Rifugi Larin e Senes (m. 1213)
offrono l’opportunità di una prima sosta ristoratrice. Attraversata la radura
punteggiata dai variopinti fiori di cròco che spuntano tra il verde della prima
erbetta primaverile ed il bianco della neve, si prosegue per la strada n. 458 fino
a raggiungere un tipico fienile di alta montagna, il Toulà de La Regoiétes. La
strada poi diviene un sentiero che scavalca un piccolo colle e finalmente scende
in un’ampia valle ricoperta da un fitto bosco di abeti. Si risale quindi verso il
piccolo Toulà de La Ruòibes, dal quale la maestosa sagoma del Pelmo e le
gracili Rocchette ci accompagnano, in uno scenario di massima bellezza, fino
alla Forcella Roàn (m. 1999), intersecando il tracciato dell’Alta Via n. 1.

All the colours of trekking
When the days begin to lengthen and the snow gradually begins to melt in the first tepid rays of the springtime sun, this is the ideal period
in which to tackle the first, magical mountain hikes of the year. One easy, although long, route (about 5 hours) runs from San Vito to the
Forcella Roàn Saddle. From the centre of San Vito, go to the Ponte del Moro bridge, near the little Mosigo Lake, and from there on up
a wide asphalted road to the Senes Plateau, where you can make your first refreshment stop at the Larin or Senes Refuges (1213 m).
Cross the clearing dotted with the colourful crocus flowers, and continue along road number 458 until you come to a typical high-mountain
hayshed, the Toulà de La Regoiétes. The road then narrows into a path which goes over a small hill and then down into a wide valley
covered by thick fir wood. You then go up to the little Toulà de La Ruòibes - from which you can admire the majestic outline of the Pelmo
and the slender Rocchette, set in a landscape of unparalleled beauty – and finally on to the Forcella Roàn Saddle (1999 m), intersecting
with the Alta Via n. 1 High Mountain Route.

Tre ore di cammino per vedere mari e monti

Con l’aria della primavera torna la voglia di ripercorrere i sentieri lasciati in autunno, di riscoprire il fascino segreto delle montagne dell’Alpago,
di ammirare panorami stupefacenti e senza confini. Da non perdere è l’itinerario che, partendo dalla località Pian Canaie in Foresta del Cansiglio
(m. 1063) ci conduce in circa 3 ore di cammino al Rifugio Semenza. Da Pian Canaie, imbocchiamo il sentiero con segnavia 922 che, attraverso
un’abetaia ed una faggeta, arriva al pianoro di Casera Palantina (m.1508). Una breve sosta e si prosegue verso la base del Col dei
Cuc, salendo fino ad incontrare il Sasson de Val de Piera (m. 1667), un masso erratico all’interno del quale è incastonata una Madonnina in
pietra collocata il 30 luglio 1967 dal Gruppo A.N.A. di Tambre: ogni estate, nell’ultima domenica di luglio, è qui che si danno appuntamento alpini,
paesani e turisti per una giornata all’insegna della preghiera e della convivialità. Non senza fatica si arriva finalmente al Rifugio Semenza
(m. 2020, inagurato nel 1963 ed aperto da giugno a settembre): da qui, lo sguardo spazia sulle Prealpi Bellunesi, le Vette Feltrine e Zoldane,
le Alpi Carniche, il Cansiglio, l’estesissima pianura veneta e friulana fino ad estendersi, nelle giornate limpide e terse, a Venezia ed al mare.

From the mountains to the sea in three hours’ walk
The scent of springtime in the air is an invitation to return to the walking paths we last tackled in the autumn, to re-discover the hidden
charms of the mountains of the Alpago area. One particularly superb itinerary starts out from Pian Canaie in the Cansiglio Forest (1063
m) and leads in about 3 hours’ walk to the Semenza Refuge. From Pian
Canaie, take the path marked 922, which runs through a group of fir
trees and beech trees to the plateau of Palantina (1508 m). After a brief
stop, continue towards the foot of Col dei Cuc, and go up until you reach
the Sasson de Val de Piera (1667 m), an erratic boulder into which is
set a stone figure of the Madonna, which was placed there on the 30th of
July 1967: every summer, on the last Sunday in July, Alpini soldiers and
veterans, villagers and tourists gather here to pray and to spend a pleasant
day together. A rather tiring hike will finally take you up to the Semenza
Refuge (2020 m, inaugurated in 1963 and open from June to September),
from which there are magnificent views out over the Belluno Pre-Alps, the
Vette Feltrine and Vette Zoldane peaks, the Carnic Alps, the Cansiglio, the
vast plains of the Veneto and Friuli regions, right out towards Venice and the
sea, which can be seen on a clear day.

Sognando California
Fino alla metà degli anni ‘60 per gli Agordini “andare in California“
significava recarsi in comune di Gosaldo, in quell’operosa frazione
sorta verso la metà dell’800 vicino alle miniere di mercurio di Vallalta.
Il piccolo borgo fu cancellato di colpo durante l’alluvione del ’66:
gli abitanti furono costretti ad emigrare e le poche case rimaste
furono invase negli anni da erbe, arbusti, alberi. Una passeggiata in
questo luogo intriso di storie di seggiolai, carpentieri e minatori ha
oggi il sapore di un’avventura fuori del tempo: da Agordo, procedendo
verso Rivamonte, Forcella Franche e Tiser, si toccano le varie
borgate ancora abitate e, una volta oltrepassato il caratteristico
ponte di ferro sul Mis, si prosegue fino alla frazione di Pattine,
punto di partenza per escursioni verso Campotorondo ed i selvaggi
Piani di Erera nel cuore del Parco Nazionale delle Dolomiti Bellunesi.
Lasciata l’auto, a piedi si attraversa il torrente Mis su un ponticello
e si è già in California! Tra i fitti ontani si scorgono ancora i ruderi
delle case, qualche finestra, una mulattiera che sale a tornanti in
mezzo ad un bosco di faggi… poi si sale ancora, oltre il bosco,

Until the mid-1960s, when the folk from the Agordino talked
about “going to California”, what they meant was heading for the

back into a land where time
has stood still. From Agordo, moving on towards Rivamonte, the
Franche Saddle and Tiser, you will pass through various villages
which are still inhabited. Cross the characteristic iron bridge over
the Mis Torrent and continue on to the hamlet of Pattine, from
where a number of hiking trails set out towards the heart of the
Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park. Park your car and cross a little
bridge over the Mis Torrent and voilà! - here you are in California. In
the thick of the alder wood you can still see the ruins of the houses,
a window or two, a mule-track which winds its way up among a
forest of beech trees…. and then on up once more, beyond the
woods, to the inhabited villages of Bezzoi and Zavat.

Nelle vicinanze della città di Belluno, appena al di sotto della cima
del Monte Serva, si può intraprendere in primavera inoltrata un
piacevole percorso che dal Col di Roanza (m. 848) conduce alla
loc. Cargador (m. 1035), per poi continuare fino alla Casera Pian
dei Fiòc (m. 1743). Dal centro di Belluno, in auto o con bus urbano
linea H, si arriva al paesetto di Sopracroda (m. 520 ca). Lasciata
l’auto, si prosegue a destra lungo la strada principale e si sale fino
a raggiungere il bivio che collega a Col Fiorito, dal quale è visibile
sulla destra la Chiesetta cinquecentesca di San Michele. Si prosegue
quindi in salita lungo la stradella asfaltata -fattibile anche con
passeggino- immersa nel verde: qua e là si scorgono delle piccole
casette di proprietà che hanno mantenuto le antiche caratteristiche
d’un tempo, mentre splendide vedute panoramiche si aprono sui

paesetti e sulle montagne della Val Belluna. Dopo circa 30 minuti di
cammino si arriva al Col di Roanza ed all’omonimo Rifugio, ideale per una breve sosta ristoratrice. Da qui, in parte su stradina asfaltata ed
in parte su sterrato, si raggiunge la località Cargador (45 minuti circa); i più ardimentosi potranno qui imboccare il sentiero escursionistico
che conduce in circa 2 ore e 30 minuti a Casera Pian dei Fiòc.

In the heart of nature at the gates of the city
Late spring is the ideal season to tackle a pleasant hiking route close to the city of Belluno, just beneath the peak of Monte Serva, which
runs from Col di Roanza (848 m) to Cargador (1035 m), and then on to the Casera Pian dei Fiòc (1743 m). From the centre of Belluno,
drive or take the “H” line bus to the little village of Sopracroda (c. 520 m). Get off the bus or park your car and continue right along the
main road and up to the fork which leads to Col Fiorito, from which, on the right, you can see the little 16th century Church of San Michele.
From here, move on up the little asphalted road – suitable even for pushchairs – which runs through the greenery: here and there you will
spot little private houses which have retained their traditional characteristics through the centuries, and splendid views are to be had out
over the little villages and the mountains of the Val Belluna. After about 30 minutes’ walk you will come to Col di Roanza and the Refuge of
the same name, an ideal place to stop for rest and refreshment. From here, partly along asphalted road and partly along a dirt-track, you
can reach Cargador (in about 45 minutes); here, the braver among you can take the hiking path which leads to Casera Pian dei Fiòc in
around 2 ½ hours.

Primavera. Dopo i rigori dell’inverno, la neve
che ha ammantato boschi e pendii, il gelo che
ha trasformato laghi e cascate in splendidi
specchi ghiacciati, la bruma che ha avvolto
le valli del Bellunese lasciano finalmente che
il primo, timido sole faccia capolino dietro
alle montagne, portando con sé tutto il suo
calore. Inizia la stagione del disgelo, le nevi
si sciolgono lentamente e lasciano che lo
zampillio dell’acqua porti verso valle nuova
vita: è il risveglio della natura, dei primi delicati
fili d’erba che spuntano caparbi sul terreno
ancora coperto di neve, delle prime fioriture
di crochi, primule e narcisi, che riempiono
l’aria con le dolcissime note del loro intenso
profumo. Il mormorio dell’acqua si fa sempre
più forte man mano i torrenti ed i ruscelli delle
Dolomiti riprendono vigore; schiocchi, tonfi
accompagnano lo scorrere dell’acqua verso
il fondovalle, dove l’assordante fragore delle
cascate fa da contrappunto alla muta e silenziosa
tranquillità dei tanti splendidi specchi
d’acqua del Bellunese. È un itinerario affascinante
quello proposto dal volumetto Le Vie
dell’Acqua, curato dalla Provincia di Belluno
e cofinanziato dall’Unione Europea mediante
il Fondo Europeo Agricolo di Orientamento e
di Garanzia programma LEADER +: un invito
ad approfondire la conoscenza del Bellunese,
seguendo passo dopo passo le tracce che
l’acqua, in tutte le sue forme, ha lasciato nei
secoli nel territorio, rimodellandone il paesaggio.
Un viaggio tra sorgenti e cascate, laghi e
torrenti, forre e marmitte, per un complesso
di 19 siti localizzati tra le Prealpi Bellunesi
e Trevigiane, che ben si prestano a divenire
mete di brevi, piacevoli escursioni. Per ogni
piccola “perla” d’acqua inserita nella guida,
i visitatori avranno a disposizione indicazioni
relative allo svolgimento del percorso di visita,
complete di tempi di percorrenza e periodi
di visita consigliati, nonché informazioni sulle
principali emergenze floro-faunistiche presenti
nel territorio.
La pubblicazione, corredata di un dvd e
parte di una piccola collana che comprende
altre quattro guide (Le Vie dell’Arte, Le Vie

Spring. After the rigours of winter, the white
blanket of snow which has covered woodlands and hillsides, the
ice which has turned lakes and waterfalls into splendid glistening
mirrors, the mist which has enveloped the valleys of Belluno all
finally begin to yield to the first timid rays of sunshine which peep
out from behind the mountains to warm the springtime air. And thus
the thaw begins, as the snow starts to melt into a trickle of water
which brings new life down towards the valley.
Nature awakens, with the first, delicate little blades of grass
stubbornly breaking through the still hard, snow-covered soil, the
first blooms of crocus, primula and narcissus, which fill the air

with their sweet, heady fragrance. The gurgling sound of running
water becomes gradually louder as the torrents and streams of
the Dolomites regain vigour, and they rumble and splash their
way down to the valley, where the deafening roar of the waterfalls
is a spectacular counterpoint to the silent, peaceful calm of the
numerous splendid lakes in the area. Quite fascinating is the route
presented in the booklet “Water Routes”, published by the Province
of Belluno and co-financed by the European Union through the
European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund programme
LEADER +: an invitation to get to know the Belluno area better,
following the traces that water, in all its various forms, has left

ehind here over the centuries, modelling and
shaping the landscape.
A journey amid springs and waterfalls, lakes
and torrents, gorges and potholes, with a total
of 19 sites located between the Prealps of
Belluno and Treviso, ideal for short, pleasant

Fontane, abbeveratoi, fontanelle: sono tante le forme che l’acqua ha assunto nel tempo nei piccoli borghi del Centro Cadore.
Testimonianze di un rapporto millenario che lega l’uomo all’acqua, mezzo di trasporto e comunicazione, fonte di energia per
le attività del paese, ma anche occasione di socialità per le donne che qui si recavano per sciacquare i panni. Passeggiando
per le vie e le vecchie case del Centro Cadore, nel tepore del sole primaverile, lo zampillare dell’acqua ci conduce alla
scoperta di questi antichi manufatti: dalle grandi fontane in pietra nelle piazze dei paesi -come quella di Via Arsenale,
a Pieve di Cadore- alle vasche in pietra o scavate nel legno, utilizzate come abbeveratoi per il bestiame, a Perarolo e
Pozzale. Ed ancora i lavatoi, con le loro vasche e le tettoie a scàndole, da quelli più recenti ad Auronzo, ai più antichi
lavatoi in pietra di Pozzale e Sottocastello. Un itinerario affascinante, che la guida “L’acqua e le sue forme. Lavatoi e

Fountains of all shapes and sizes: water has taken on many different forms over the centuries in the little
neighbourhoods of the Centro Cadore area. A testament to the age-old relationship between Man and water, a means
of transport and communication, a source of energy for the local activities, but also an opportunity for the womenfolk to
meet and socialize as they once gathered here to do their washing. As you stroll through the local streets and past the
old houses, the spurts and gushes of water will guide you on a voyage of discovery through
these ancient constructions: from the large stone fountains in the village squares -such
as the one in Pieve di Cadore- to the large basins made in stone or carved from wood
and used as drinking troughs for animals in Perarolo and Pozzale. And then there are the
wash-houses, with their washtubs and wooden-tiled roofs – from the most recently built
in Auronzo to the older stone constructions in Pozzale and Sottocastello. A fascinating
itinerary, which you can explore by following the indications contained in the guide “L’acqua
e le sue forme. Lavatoi e fontane del Centro Cadore”, produced by the Province of Belluno
in collaboration with the Municipalities and other bodies of the Centro Cadore as part

Un biotopo chiamato “La Zopa”
Dal centro di San Vito di Cadore, una piacevole passeggiata ci consente di raggiungere il biotopo La Zopa, ricco di sorgenti e famoso
per il suo lavatoio, ancora funzionante, presso il quale si recavano un tempo le donne del vicino villaggio di Vallesella. Insieme ai biotopi
di Cinque Torri e Passo Falzarego (Cortina d’Ampezzo), Piani di Senes (San Vito di Cadore), Pian di San Simon, Forcella Forada, Lago di
Serla, Lago di Ceoliè (Vodo di Cadore), Lago di Rudin e Miniere Ronzei (Cibiana di Cadore), La Zopa costituisce uno dei dieci siti individuati
dalla Comunità Montana Valboite che necessitano di essere riqualificati e tutelati dal pericolo di estinzione.
Lasciando l’auto in paese, si prosegue lungo la tranquilla stradina che dalla chiesa parrocchiale scende fino al cimitero; poco più sotto,
si trova l’area naturalistica. Passeggiando tra laghetti e fontanelle, lungo i sentieri realizzati nel corso dei recenti interventi di riqualificazione,
è possibile soffermare l’attenzione sui tabelloni informativi relativi all’area, alle sue caratteristiche geomorfologiche ed alle sue
ricchezze floro-faunistiche. Panchine ed aree di sosta poste lungo il sentiero offrono ai visitatori una piacevole oasi di relax.

Uno degli ambienti più caratteristici del Parco Nazionale
delle Dolomiti Bellunesi è senza dubbio costituito dai Cadini
del Brenton, nella Valle del Mis. Qui, nel corso dei millenni,
le acque gelide e cristalline del Torrente Brenton hanno
dato origine, con una lenta ma costante opera di erosione,
ad una quindicina di marmitte (cadini in dialetto locale),
profonde cavità naturali dalla forma circolare e dall’intenso
colore azzurro-verde. I Cadini, collegati l’uno all’altro da
scivoli e gradoni rocciosi naturali che creano dei suggestivi
giochi d’acqua, presentano un’ulteriore particolarità: in ogni
vasca, infatti, l’acqua “gira” in senso opposto alla precedente,
alternando dunque rotazioni in senso orario ed antiorario.
Inoltrarsi in questa affascinante atmosfera, è possibile
seguendo il breve itinerario ad anello attrezzato, allestito
dall’Ente Parco: graziosi ponticelli in legno e piccole scalinate
consentono, in circa trenta minuti, di ammirare le ultime
undici vasche. La partenza del sentiero è ben segnalata e,
provenendo dalla Valbelluna, si trova sulla sinistra, appena
prima del ponte di Gena Bassa, alla confluenza del torrente
Mis nell’omonimo lago.

Cadini del Brenton, in the Mis Valley. Here, over the course
of thousands of years, the freezing-cold, crystal-clear

with the biotopes of the Cinque Torri and the Falzarego Pass (Cortina d’Ampezzo), Piani di Senes (San Vito di Cadore), Pian di San Simon,
Forcella Forada Saddle, Serla Lake, Ceoliè Lake (Vodo di Cadore), Rudin Lake and the Ronzei Mines (Cibiana di Cadore), La Zopa is one
of the ten sites identified by the Comunità Montana Valboite as requiring requalification and protection from the risk of extinction. Park
your car in the village and walk along the quiet little road which goes down from the parish church to the cemetery; the nature area lies
just a little further down from here. As you stroll among little lakes and fountains, along the paths marked out during recent requalification
work, you can take a look at the panels containing information on the area, its geographical and morphological characteristics and the rich
variety of its plant and animal life. You may also like to stop for a relaxing break in the rest areas and on the benches positioned along the
route.

waters of the Brenton Torrent have slowly
but inexorably worn away a series of around
fifteen potholes (called “cadini” in the local
dialect): deep, circular-shaped natural cavities
of an intense, blue-green colour. The Cadini,
connected to each other by natural slides and
steps in the rock which create spectacular,
shimmering effects, present another particular
feature: in each pothole the water swirls in
the opposite direction to the one before,
thus alternating clockwise with anti-clockwise
movement. You can venture into this
fascinating environment by following the brief
circular equipped route set out by the Park:
attractive little wooden bridges and flights of
steps will allow you to admire the last eleven
potholes in about 30 minutes. The starting
point of the path is well marked, and if you are
coming from the Valbelluna, you will find it on
the left, just before the Gena Bassa bridge,
where the Mis Torrent runs into the lake of the
same name.

Percorribile dalla primavera fino ad autunno inoltrato, questa facile
passeggiata di soli 200 metri di dislivello complessivo ci conduce,
in circa 30 minuti di cammino, dalle sponde del lago di Alleghe sino
alla Cascata del Ru de Rialt. Partendo dal piazzale centrale della
frazione di Masarè, si sale per via G.Pascoli fino ai campi da tennis
in località Pian Grant; si devia poi verso destra, proseguendo su
sentiero sterrato fino a raggiungere una presa per l’acqua. Da qui,
si prende a sinistra, sempre in leggera salita fino ad un breve tratto
pianeggiante che conduce ad un ponticello di legno, che si lascia
alle proprie spalle, proseguendo diritti proprio in direzione del salto
d’acqua.
In pochi minuti si raggiunge la cascata. Man mano che ci si avvicina
allo scroscio d’acqua, ecco che si avverte la sensazione leggera
delle goccioline nebulizzate che, espandendosi in un ampio raggio,
si posano delicatamente sul nostro viso. Una breve sosta, e poi si
riparte alla volta del lago di Alleghe, seguendo il medesimo itinerario
d’andata.

Splashes
of the Dolomites
Feasible from spring to late autumn, this easy, c.30 minute walking
route, with a total level difference of just 200 metres, will take you
from the banks of Alleghe Lake to the Ru de Rialt Waterfall. Starting
out from the square in the centre of the hamlet of Masarè, go
up Via G.Pascoli to the Pian Grant tennis courts; then turn right,
continuing along a dirt-track road until you come to a water intake.
From here, take left up a gentle slope until you come to a brief
stretch of flat ground which leads to a little wooden bridge; pass
by the bridge and head straight on towards the waterfall, now just
minutes away.
As you approach the rushing water, you will feel a gentle spray in
the air which gradually intensifies into soft splashes which envelop
you and caress your face. A brief rest, and then you can retrace
your steps back off again to Alleghe Lake.

Lo specchio delle Dolomiti
Il lago rappresenta una delle mete preferite dal turismo montano degli
ultimi anni. Turisti di tutte le età -giovani coppie, famiglie, sportivi, anzianilo
identificano come luogo ideale per una vacanza a diretto contatto con
la natura che, nei laghi della provincia di Belluno, si unisce alla magia di
un contesto da favola: le Dolomiti. Il lago di Santa Caterina, alle porte di
Auronzo di Cadore, uno dei centri turistici più importanti dell’intera valle,
è senza dubbio tra i più belli del Bellunese. Le sue acque limpide assumono
colorazioni che vanno dall’azzurro chiaro al blu cobalto, passando
attraverso una miriade di tonalità intermedie. Sulle sue sponde è possibile
trascorrere ore di assoluto riposo, sdraiati al sole sulle spiagge a ridosso
dell’acqua, passeggiare piacevolmente nel verde dei prati circostanti, avventurarsi
in barca sino al centro del lago e, naturalmente, fare tanto sport.
Per godere di una prospettiva diversa vi consigliamo di costeggiare il lago
sul trenino panoramico o in bicicletta: le due sponde sono, infatti, collegate
da una passerella naturale che conduce al suo versante più selvaggio.
È possibile pescare e, nelle immediate vicinanze, sorge un maneggio con
un percorso vita, mentre una pista ciclabile di 5 chilometri raggiunge la
località Giralba. Tra le principali opportunità di escursione, da segnalare
sono la foresta di Somadida, con un piccolo museo ove sono raccolte
notizie e informazioni sugli aspetti geologici e faunistici dell’intera area,
la passeggiata in Val Da Rin, le escursioni sul Monte Agudo e la visita ai
Bagni di Gogna. Nel centro storico di Auronzo merita una visita il Museo
Multitematico Naturalistico e Archeologico.

The mirror of the Dolomites
Over the last few years, lakes have become increasingly popular with holidaymakers in the mountains. Tourists of all ages –young couples,
families, sports fans and the elderly– see lakeside areas as the ideal place to spend a holiday in close contact with nature; and in the
province of Belluno, these advantages are enhanced still further by the fabulous surrounding landscape of the Dolomites. Santa Caterina
Lake, just outside Auronzo di Cadore, one of the most important tourist resorts in the whole of the valley, is undoubtedly one of the most
beautiful lakes in the province of Belluno. Its crystal waters take on shades and reflections which range from pale blue to brilliant cobalt blue
and all the myriad of nuances in between. On the banks of the lake you can spend a restful few hours just sunbathing on the shore, enjoy a
gentle stroll through the nearby green fields, take a boat trip out into the middle of the lake, or of course do all sorts of sports.
If you want to admire the lake from a different angle, how about taking a trip around it by bicycle, or on the special little train? The two banks
are connected by a sort of natural bridge which leads to the wilder, more unspoilt side. You can also go fishing on the lake, and nearby there
is a riding school with a keep-fit trail and a 5 km long cycling path which leads to Giralba. Visitors can also take trips to the Somadida Forest,
where there is a little museum with news and information on the geology and fauna of the surrounding area, or take a walk through the Val
Da Rin, a hike on Monte Agudo, or a visit to the Bagni di Gogna spa area. Also worth visiting is the Nature and Archaeology Museum in the
historic centre of Auronzo.

Non solo “grandi” laghi: il Bellunese offre ai suoi visitatori la possibilità
di scoprire tanti piccoli laghi, forse meno conosciuti ma non
per questo meno affascinanti. Ecco, allora, qualche idea per una
piacevole escursione:
Lago di Senaiga
Si trova nel comune di Lamon a ca 396 m. di altezza. Una passerella
di corde, il Ponte della Vittoria, collega il Col Pieron con il Col
Martello, sopra al quale si dipartono alcuni sentieri che permettono
di raggiungere il Col Perer (1035 m.) con panorama sull’altopiano di
Lamon e Monte Coppolo.
Laghetto Rodela
È un piccolo bacino d’acqua in comune di Sovramonte, sulla sponda
del torrente Ausor; la primavera è il periodo ideale per conoscerlo,
con una piacevole camminata di ca 3 ore che sale dalla frazione di
Sorriva.
Lago di Busche
Situato a 240 m. slm. ai confini tra il comune di Lentiai e di Cesiomaggiore,
è un lago di natura artificiale, realizzato mediante uno
sbarramento del fiume Piave. La sponda sud-ovest ospita un’oasi
naturalistica, meta rinomata per gli appassionati di birdwatching che
qui possono osservare diverse specie di uccelli stanziali e migratori.

Not just “great” lakes: visitors to the Belluno area will have the
opportunity of discovering a whole series of lovely small ones too
– perhaps less famous, but certainly no less beautiful. Below are a
few ideas for a pleasant day out:
Senaiga Lake
Situated in the municipality of Lamon at an altitude of approx. 396
m. A rope bridge, Ponte della Vittoria, connects Col Pieron with Col
Martello, above which a number of paths begin, leading up to Col
Perer (1035 m.), from where there are fine views over the Lamon
plateau and Monte Coppolo.
Rodela Lake
A small basin in the municipality of Sovramonte, on the banks of the
Ausor Torrent; spring is the ideal season to visit the lake, which can
be reached by a pleasant walk lasting approximately three hours up
from the ward of Sorriva.
Busche Lake
Situated at 240 m. asl. on the border between the municipalities of
Lentiai and Cesiomaggiore, this artificial lake was created by a dam
over the River Piave. The south-west bank is home to a nature oasis,
and is a mecca for birdwatchers, who have the chance to observe a
range of both sedentary and migratory species.

Questa primavera, a Cortina d’Ampezzo, tornano gli
appuntamenti con la tradizione locale e l’artigianato
artistico. Dopo il successo ottenuto nelle due precedenti
edizioni, torna infatti anche quest’anno la mostra Mas de
oro d’Anpezo. Gli abitanti delle nostre vallate avranno
così nuovamente modo di esporre gli oggetti creati
con le proprie mani: piccoli capolavori in legno, gioielli
in perline, ricami a tombolo e chiacchierino, dipinti su
legno, modellismo, decorazioni in pasta di pane e quanto
di più creativo e originale può nascere dalla fantasia dei
singoli espositori. Sarà inoltre possibile apprendere alcune
tecniche utilizzate per la realizzazione degli oggetti
esposti grazie alla disponibilità degli stessi autori, che
si alterneranno per insegnare ai visitatori più curiosi e
volenterosi i loro hobby preferiti, divenuti per l’occasione
delle vere e proprie forme d’arte. La mostra, ospitata
nelle sale del Centro Congressi Alexander Girardi Hall,
sarà visitabile tutti i giorni lunedì escluso dal 28 marzo
al 27 aprile, dalle 16.30 alle 19.30 e, durante i festivi,
anche il mattino dalle 10.30 alle 12.30.
Fino al 25 marzo rimane inoltre aperta, presso la Sala
Esposizioni del Comune Vecchio, la mostra La Fucina
Artistica dei Càiser, un’occasione per compiere un
viaggio fantastico attraverso le opere dei maestri del
ferro battuto Modesto e Ugo Demenego. Ripercorrendo
la vita e l’evoluzione artistica dei due fratelli, riscopriamo
lentamente anche parte della storia dell’artigianato di
Cortina, di una tradizione di lavorazione del ferro battuto
attiva fin dal XVIII secolo nella famiglia Demenego, soprannominata
dei Càiser per gli attivi scambi con le terre
dell’Impero Austro-ungarico. Piatti lavorati a sbalzo, cornici,
lampadari, decorazioni a battente per porte e finestre,
ornamenti e portalampade: tanti gli oggetti in mostra,
provenienti dalla collezione donata nel 1985 da Ugo Demenego
alle Regole d’Ampezzo. La mostra è aperta tutti
i giorni, escluso il lunedì, dalle 16.30 alle 19.30.

This spring sees the return to Cortina d’Ampezzo of a series of events linked to local traditions and arts and crafts. Following the success of
the last two editions, this year the exhibition Mas de oro d’Anpezo will be held here once more. The inhabitants of our valleys will therefore
have another chance to display objects created with their own hands: little masterpieces made from wood, jewellery made from little beads,
pillow-lace and lace rosette embroidery, paintings on wood, model constructions, decorations made from bread dough and a whole host
of other original creations thought up by the local craftsmen who display their wares here. Visitors will also be able to learn a few of the
techniques used to make the objects directly from the exhibitors themselves, who will take it in turns to teach the more curious and willing
about their favourite hobbies, which for this occasion have produced authentic art forms. The exhibition, which will be held in the rooms of
the Alexander Girardi Hall Congress Centre, will be open every day except Monday from the 28th of March to the 27th of April, from
16.30 to 19.30, and on Sundays and public holidays also in the morning, from 10.30 to 12.30. Until the 25th of March, in the Exhibition
Hall of the Comune Vecchio building, you can visit the La Fucina Artistica dei Càiser exhibition, a chance to take a fantastic tour through
the works of the master wrought-iron craftsmen Modesto and Ugo Demenego. The exhibition, which tells the story of the life and works of
the two brothers, also takes the visitor on a voyage of discovery through a part of the history of arts and crafts in Cortina, the tradition of
wrought-iron working which ran through the Demenego family from the 18th century. The family were nicknamed the Càisers because of
the business they did with the lands of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Embossed plates, frames, lamps, decorative shutters for windows and
doors, ornaments and lamp-holders: there is a wide range of objects on display, from the collection donated in 1985 by Ugo Demenego to
the Regole d’Ampezzo. The exhibition is open every day, except Monday, from 16.30 to 19.30.

Sappada Vecchia
Il fascino
delle Blockhaus
“Par di sognare entrando in Sappada, fra un
silenzio rotto solo dal mormorio delle limpide
e copiose fontane, fra quelle vecchie case annerite
dal tempo e dal fumo, ornate di fiori…”
A. Frova, nel 1908, iniziava con queste parole
la descrizione di Sappada in una delle prime
monografie turistiche dedicate alla località.
È passato un secolo da allora, ma la conca
sappadina ha conservato intatto il suo fascino:
un paesaggio fiabesco, coronato dalle più
belle cime dolomitiche, le limpide fontane,
le antiche case di legno ridondanti di fiori.
Queste magnifiche Blockhaus si sono conservate
soprattutto nella cosiddetta Sappada
Vecchia, che comprende le borgate Muhlbach,
Cottern, Hoffe, Fontana, Kratten, Soravia,
Ecche, Puiche e nella borgatella Cima. Esse
rappresentano un prezioso patrimonio storicoartistico,
che testimonia (accanto alla lingua
germanofona) la provenienza d’Oltralpe dei
primi abitanti della valle. La tecnica del
Blockbau, d’impronta marcatamente nordica,
si basa sull’impiego di grosse travi sovrapposte
in orizzontale ed incastrate agli spigoli:
case e rustici perfettamente inseriti nell’ambiente
che offrono un’immagine di armonia e
di calore.

The charm of
the Blockhaus
“As you enter Sappada, you almost feel as
if you are dreaming; the silence is broken
only by the crystal-clear water trickling from
the fountains set amid old houses blackened
by smoke and by the passage of time and
decorated with flowers…” This is how A.
Frova began his description of Sappada in
1908, in one of the first tourist publications
specifically dedicated to the town. A full
hundred years later, the Sappada Basin
is every bit as enchanting today as it was
then: a fairytale landscape, encircled by
the finest peaks in the Dolomites, with the
same beautiful old wooden houses brimming
with flowers. These magnificent Blockhaus
can be seen in the so-called Sappada Old
Town, which includes the neighbourhoods of
Muhlbach, Cottern, Hoffe, Fontana, Kratten,
Soravia, Ecche, Puiche and Cima, and form
part of an important historical and cultural
legacy which testifies to the origins of the
first inhabitants of the valley, who arrived
from the other side of the Alps. The Blockbau
corner-timbering technique, clearly northern in
style and origin, is based on the use of thick
trunks placed overlapping with each other and
wedged into the corners; the houses and rural
buildings in this style blend perfectly with the
surrounding environment, creating a sensation
of harmony and of warmth.

È sempre piacevole fare due passi per le vie di Pieve di Cadore. Da
Piazza Tiziano ci dirigiamo, costeggiando il Palazzo della Magnifica
Comunità, verso Piazza Municipio: ed ecco, nei pressi del palazzo
municipale, stagliarsi un padiglione vetrato che offre copertura ad
antiche murature e pavimentazioni. Sono i resti di una villa romana
mosaicata risalente al I-II secolo d.C., scoperta negli anni ’50 durante
i lavori per la costruzione del nuovo municipio. Le campagne di scavo
hanno riportato alla luce
cospicui alzati murari e
rimanenze dell’impianto
di riscaldamento ad
ipocausto, del quale
rimane traccia nei
numerosi cunicoli
attraverso i quali passava
il calore proveniente dal
prefurnium (forno). Le
opere di valorizzazione
volute dall’amministrazione
comunale, concluse nel
2005 sotto la direzione
dell’architetto Marcello
Modesti, comprendono
interventi volti ad
assicurare, all’interno del
padiglione, un microclima

climatizzazione. Il moderno impianto di illuminazione consente la
visita dei resti della villa anche in notturna, grazie al posizionamento
di punti luce capaci di esaltare le peculiarità dell’impianto costruttivo
della villa, nonché, sul lato nord, gli intonaci originari.

A Roman villa under glass
A stroll through the streets of Pieve di Cadore is always a pleasure.
From Piazza Tiziano you can go down past the Palazzo della
Magnifica Comunità towards Piazza Municipio, where, next to the
Town Hall building you can see a glass structure covering ancient
walls and floors, all that remains today of a mosaic-decorated
Roman villa dating back to the 1st/2nd century A.D. The villa was
discovered in the 1950s during the building work for the new Town
Hall, and excavation work has brought to light considerable sections
of the walls as well as traces of the underfloor heating system.
The work commissioned by the town council and completed in
2005 under the direction of the architect Marcello Modesti was
designed to guarantee a natural micro-climate within the glass
vault which would protect the remains without the need to resort to
climatization systems. The modern lighting system means that the
remains of the villa can also be viewed at night, thanks to spotlights
positioned in such a way as to exalt the peculiar characteristics of
the building design of the villa, as well as its original plasterwork,
which is visible on the north side.

Il Corpo Musicale festeggia il suo primo decennale
Quest’anno il Corpo Musicale di Auronzo di Cadore celebra i suoi primi dieci anni di attività, dopo l’esordio del 12 luglio 1998 in occasione
della Festa delle Bande di Auronzo – quest’anno in programma per il 12 e 13 luglio 2008. L’attuale Corpo Musicale, che annovera la
presenza di bambini, giovani ed adulti, è composto da circa trenta persone provenienti non solo da Auronzo, ma anche da alcuni paesi
del Centro Cadore e del Comelico. È proprio la presenza di persone di età diverse e provenienti da tutto il territorio cadorino che ha permesso
all’attività bandistica di mantenere un significato formativo e culturale particolare, indirizzato al recupero di una tradizione storica
e culturale che ha costituito il patrimonio della Comunità fino alla seconda guerra mondiale.
Il Corpo Musicale è diventato una realtà importante non solo tra le Associazioni culturali del paese, ma per l’intera realtà cadorina:
sempre più spesso, infatti, il complesso è chiamato a rappresentare il territorio in occasione di manifestazioni pubbliche fuori regione o
anche all’estero, divenendo un importante veicolo promozionale della cultura e del turismo di Auronzo e dell’intero Cadore.

The Musical Corps celebrates its tenth birthday
This year the Musical Corps of Auronzo di Cadore celebrates its
tenth birthday. The Corps made its début performance on the 12th
of July 1998, on the occasion of the Bands Festival in Auronzo
–which this year is once again scheduled for the 12th and 13th
July. The current Musical Corps is composed of a total of around
30 members - including children, youths and adults – not only
from Auronzo itself, but from places in the Centro Cadore and
Comelico areas. And it is precisely this variety of ages and origins
of its members which allows the Corps to continue to play such
an important training and cultural role, aimed at rediscovering and
maintaining the historical and cultural traditions which formed the
legacy of the Community until the Second World War.
The Musical Corps has become one of the most important cultural
associations not only in Auronzo, but in the whole of the Cadore,
and it is increasingly called upon to represent the area during
public events outside the region or even abroad, thus becoming
an important channel for the promotion of culture and tourism in
Auronzo and indeed throughout the Cadore.

Quando la musica vuol dire amicizia
When music = friendship
La musica, quella corale in particolare, è da sempre un potente
tramite di amicizia e di incontro tra le persone. È questa l’esperienza
che sta alla base del rapporto di scambio tra il Coro Val Biois di
Falcade e l’Eintracht-Chor di Stockach, una bella cittadina sul versante
tedesco del lago di Costanza. Dal 1980 si sono susseguite
ben 7 visite-concerto che hanno rafforzato il legame di simpatia ed
amicizia tra i coristi e favorito interessanti scambi tra le due municipalità.Anche
quest’anno si rinnova questo incontro: dal 30 maggio
al 1 giugno l’Eintracht-Chor sarà ospite a Falcade per un ricco fine
settimana che culminerà con il concerto corale assieme al Coro Val
Biois sabato 31 maggio, ore 21, nella nuova Sala multifunzionale
annessa all’Istituto Alberghiero.

Music, and in particular choir music, has always been a powerful
way for people to meet and make friends. And it is this experience
which forms the foundations of the exchange relationship between
the Val Biois Choir of Falcade and the Eintracht-Chor of Stockach, a
charming little town on the German side of Lake Constance. From
1980, 7 visits-concerts have taken place which have strengthened
the bond of empathy and friendship between the singers and have
helped lead to other interesting exchanges between the two towns.
A further encounter will take place this year: from the 30th May
to the 1st of June, the Eintracht-Chor will be the guests of their
colleagues in Falcade for a weekend packed with events, the high
point of which will be the concert given together by both choirs on
Saturday 31st May at 9 p.m in the new function hall in the annex
of the hotel and catering school.
La X Settimana della Cultura (25-31 marzo 2008), vedrà ancora una volta in calendario le visite guidate al sito archeologico del Monte
Calvario ad Auronzo di Cadore. Situato sull’omonimo colle, il santuario è antichissimo -risale al II secolo a.C.- e pare essere stato frequentato
per almeno cinquecento anni. Trattasi di uno dei siti archeologici in fase di scavo più importanti di tutto il territorio nazionale, presentato al
Quirinale dal Ministero dei Beni Culturali e dalla Soprintendenza Archeologica del Veneto. Le motivazioni di tanto interesse sono da ricercare
nella tipologia a gradoni del santuario, tipicamente centro-italica ed insolita per queste zone, che trova paragone solo nei santuari nelle
vicinanze della città di Roma. Le campagne di scavo, dirette dalla Dott.ssa Giovanna Gangemi della Soprintendenza Archeologica del Veneto,
hanno consentito di datare i reperti inequivocabilmente, consentendo di spostare in avanti di quasi due secoli le approssimative datazioni
effettuate finora su simili reperti rinvenuti in tutta l’area veneta. La sensazionale ipotesi, che potrebbe mettere in subbuglio studiosi di mezza
Europa, è che il santuario del Monte Calvario possa essere uno dei luoghi dove è nata la scrittura runica, in uso anticamente dalle popolazioni
scandinave e germaniche e le cui origini sono ancora in parte oscure.

10th Culture Week
Once again this year, the programme of the tenth edition of the Culture Week (25th-31st March 2008) will include guided visits to the
archaeological site of Monte Calvario in Auronzo di Cadore. Situated on the hill of the same name, the sanctuary dates back to the 2nd
century B.C., and seems to have been frequented for at least 500 years. It is one of the most important archaeological digs currently
underway in Italy: the reason for the particular importance of the site is that the design of the sanctuary features the terracing which
is typical of central Italy, unusual for this area, and comparable only to the sanctuaries found in the areas around the city of Rome. The
excavation campaign, under the direction of Dr. Giovanna Gangemi of the Archaeological Department of the Veneto Region, has made it
possible to accurately and unequivocally date the finds, bringing forward by almost two centuries the approximate date estimates carried out
until now on similar finds which have come to light all over the Veneto. The sensational hypothesis, which would cause very much of a stir
in academic circles in much of Europe, is that the sanctuary on Monte Calvario might have been one of the places where the runic alphabet
was created, the alphabet which was used by ancient Germanic and Scandinavian peoples and whose origins are still largely obscure.

A Seravella la collezione Bepi Mazzotti
The Bepi Mazzotti collection in Seravella
Il 22 dicembre 2007 è stata inaugurata al Museo etnografico
della provincia di Belluno e del Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi,
a Seravella di Cesiomaggiore, una nuova sezione dedicata alla
collezione etnografica di Bepi e Nerina Mazzotti. L’allestimento,
curato da Daniela Perco e dall’arch. Daniela Baldeschi, è stato
reso possibile grazie ai finanziamenti regionali per le celebrazioni
del centenario della nascita di Giuseppe Mazzotti per il tramite
della Fondazione Mazzotti di Treviso, nonché al contributo
dell’Unione artigiani e piccola industria di Belluno e da quello
dell’Amministrazione Provinciale.
Gli oggetti, donati al Museo da Anna Mazzotti Pugliese, riflettono gli
interessi etnografici di Giuseppe Mazzotti, ma anche un percorso
di vita, di affetti, di frequentazione di luoghi. Scrittore, alpinista
e strenuo difensore del paesaggio veneto, Bepi Mazzotti nasce
a Treviso nel 1907 e nel 1933 incontra la valdostana Nerina
Crétier, grazie alla passione comune per la montagna che i due
condivideranno con amici come Dino Buzzati e altri grandi nomi
dell’alpinismo.
È proprio la frequentazione della Valle d’Aosta, e in particolare
della fiera millenaria di Sant’Orso verso la quale confluivano
numerosi artigiani del legno, ad accendere in Bepi Mazzotti la
curiosità per “l’arte popolare” che lo accompagnerà per tutta la
vita e darà vita ad una collezione di grande interesse, anche se
eterogenea in quanto a provenienza geografica (Valle d’Aosta, Alto
Adige, Austria, Agordino, Cadore). Fili conduttori della collezione
sono la ricerca estetica e formale e l’apprezzamento per il lavoro
artigianale. Il legno lavorato da mani sapienti costituisce il nucleo
più importante della raccolta (rocche intagliate e dipinte, cucchiai
con figure zoomorfe, giochi valdostani, pipe di legno di marasca,
maschere carnevalesche, strumenti per la preparazione del cibo).
Di notevole interesse anche la ceramica popolare: dall’arcicucco
del maestro artigiano Poloniato di Nove, ai piatti veneti dipinti a
rapide ed efficaci pennellate, alla ceramica altoatesina. Il percorso
si conclude con il film “Un’ora con… Mazzotti”, prodotto dalla RAI
nel 1972.

The 22nd of December 2007 saw the inauguration of a new section
of the Ethnographical Museum of the Province of Belluno and the
Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park in Seravella di Cesiomaggiore. The
section, dedicated to the collection of Bepi and Nerina Mazzotti
and set up by Daniela Perco and the architect Daniela Baldeschi,
was created thanks to regional financing, received via the Mazzotti
Foundation of Treviso, for the celebration of the centennial of the
birth of Giuseppe Mazzotti, and also to contributions made by the
Provincial Administration and the Craft Workers and Small Businesses
Association of Belluno. The objects, donated to the Museum by Anna
Mazzotti Pugliese, not only reflect Giuseppe Mazzotti’s interest in
ethnography; they also tell us a great deal about the man’s life, and
the people, places and things dear to him. A writer, mountaineer and
highly vocal advocate of the need to protect the landscape of the
Veneto, Bepi Mazzotti was born in Treviso in 1907; in 1933 he met
Nerina Crétier, from the Aosta Valley, thanks to the passion for the
mountains they both shared with friends such as Dino Buzzati and
a number of mountaineering greats. It was thanks to his frequent
visits to the Aosta Valley, and in particular to the ancient craft fair of
Sant’Orso that Bepi Mazzotti became so fascinated by “popular art”;
this keen interest remained with him until the end of his days, giving
rise to an extraordinary collection. The objects in the collection come
from a range of different areas (the Aosta Valley, the South Tyrol,
Austria, the Agordino and Cadore areas), but what they undoubtedly
have in common is the aesthetic and formal value of the craft
techniques used to create them. Skilfully-crafted wooden objects form
the most important part of the collection, which includes carved and
painted distaffs, spoons with animal-like figures, traditional Aosta-style
toys, marasca-wood pipes, carnival masks and tools for preparing
food. Also extremely interesting are the popular ceramics – from
the arcicucco (a sort of elaborately-decorated whistle) of the master
craftsman Poloniato from Nove to the Veneto plates decorated with
swift, effective brushstrokes. The visit to the collection ends with the
film “Un’ora con… Mazzotti”, produced by Italian National Television in
1972.

Costumi e tradizioni ladine in mostra
traditions
L’iniziativa di presentare i costumi tradizionali di Colle Santa Lucia in tutte le forme e gli usi succedutisi nel tempo è nata dall’idea di ripercorrere
la storia locale attraverso l’osservazione delle evoluzioni intervenute nel modo di vestire, che rispecchiano in maniera esaustiva
la cultura, le usanze e le tradizioni della piccola comunità. Il materiale esposto risale esclusivamente al XIX secolo, dato che per i periodi
precedenti non si ha alcun riferimento documentato in merito. L’uso dei costumi è rimasto sin ora assai vivo, soprattutto negli anziani,
cultori della storia locale, ed è in particolare il costume femminile ad essere sempre stato sfoggiato in occasione delle feste religiose care
al paese. Nel modo di vestire e nell’uso dei vari indumenti ben si interpreta la profonda religiosità vissuta nei paesi di montagna, il rispetto
rigoroso nei confronti delle autorità e delle persone anziane, simbolo di sapienza e conoscenza. Emerge la presenza di una cultura legata
al mondo contadino, in cui uomini, donne e bambini erano vestiti con semplici e spartani indumenti, tratti da materiali poveri come la tela di
canapa, il lino, il panno pesante. Solo nell’ultimo cinquantennio il modo di vestire ha subito un’evoluzione, legata alla disponibilità di maggiori
risorse economiche. La mostra è visitabile dal lunedì al venerdì presso la sede dell’Istitut Cultural Ladin “Cesa de Jan” a Colle Santa Lucia,
dalle 9.00 alle 12.00, fino al 31 maggio 2008.

Exhibition of Ladin costumes and traditions
This exhibition of the traditional 19th century costumes of Colle Santa Lucia in all their
forms and for all the reasons for which they have been used over the years came about
from the idea of exploring local history through the observation of the changes in the
way of dressing, which are an accurate reflection of the culture, customs and traditions
of the little community. The use of costumes has remained fairly common to the present
day, especially among the elderly, guardians of local history, and traditional women’s
costumes in particular have always been worn during the religious festivals so dear to
the villagers. The way of dressing and of wearing the various garments presents us with
a good interpretation of the profound religious beliefs of the mountain people, the deep
respect for authority and for their elders, symbols of wisdom and knowledge. This is
clearly a culture with strong links to the land, the soil, in which men, women and children
wore simple, spartan garments, made with poor materials such as hemp cloth, linen and
heavy wool. It is only in the last fifty years or so that this has changed, as a result of the
greater financial resources available. The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday in the
headquarters of the “Cesa de Jan” Ladin Cultural Institute in Colle Santa Lucia, from 9.00
to 12.00, until the 31st of May 2008.

Il gusto
della tradizione antica
A Sappada, nel periodo pasquale, si tramandano ancor oggi particolari tradizioni. Nella
Domenica delle Palme si svolge la benedizione dell’Olivo e dei mazzolini di fiori:
l’usanza vuole che, durante l’inverno, i ramoscelli benedetti possano essere bruciati per
“scongiurare” il pericolo rappresentato dai temporali e dai fulmini. Il Venerdì Santo,
alcuni si recano in preghiera presso il cosiddetto Calvario, costruzione ottocentesca
formata da 13 cappelline che sono altrettante stazioni di preghiera, dove un tempo
si svolgeva la Via Crucis. Infine, nella Domenica di Pasqua, le donne si recano alla
Messa delle ore 8 presso la chiesa di Santa Margherita, portando con sé un cesto con la
focaccia d’uvetta fatta in casa, alcune uova sode ed un salame. Le ceste, addobbate a festa, sono riposte
sotto l’altare per essere benedette. Le vivande saranno poi servite come antipasto durante il pranzo in famiglia, la fetta di
focaccia guarnita con salame e uova, e la tradizione vuole che non ne rimanga nemmeno una briciola. L’usanza sappadina della focaccia
benedetta è proposta anche nei numerosi ristoranti della località.

The taste of tradition
In Sappada, a number of particular Easter traditions are still very much alive and well. On Palm Sunday, a ceremony takes place during
which olive branches and bunches of flowers are blessed: tradition has it that these branches can be burnt during the winter to ward off the
danger of storms and lightning. On Good Friday, some of the local faithful go up to pray at the so-called Calvary, a series of 13 little 19th
century shrines, along which the Way of the Cross procession used to lead. Finally, on Easter Sunday the local womenfolk attend the 8
a.m. Mass in the Church of Santa Margherita, taking with them a basket with a traditional home-made type of focaccia made with raisins, a
few boiled eggs and some salami. These baskets, richly decorated for the occasion, are placed on the altar to be blessed. The contents will
then be eaten as a starter during the family lunch, with the eggs and salami served on top of the focaccia – and according to tradition not so
much a crumb should go uneaten. Many local restaurants also serve the traditional focaccia during this period.

50 attori per “Passione”
È nata nel 2002 a Pozzale l’iniziativa di ricordare la morte di
Cristo con la raffigurazione vivente della Sua Passione: un evento
rappresentato in molte località d’Italia e del mondo, ma che qui si
carica di una particolare spiritualità. Il Venerdì Santo, alle 19.30
nella Chiesa di San Tommaso, inizia il processo a Gesù: davanti al
popolo ed ai soldati romani si procede alla lettura della Passione
di Cristo, tratta dai testi evangelici. Verso le 20.30 ha inizio la
processione lungo le vie del paese, illuminate solamente dai bagliori
delle fiaccole e da migliaia di lumini. Sono le fontane del paese a
costituire le stazioni della Via Crucis, allestite in modo da creare
un’atmosfera suggestiva, surreale e coinvolgente. Il capo delle
guardie a cavallo guida il corteo che, stazione dopo stazione, si
ferma sul colle della Chiesa dove ha luogo la crocifissione di Gesù
Cristo tra i due ladroni, sotto gli occhi del popolo di Gerusalemme,
rappresentato da circa 50 figuranti in costume. La Via Crucis

Vivente avrà luogo con qualsiasi condizione meteorologica. A
coloro che intendono partecipare a questo toccante momento di
preghiera, si raccomanda di raggiungere Pozzale con notevole
anticipo e di lasciare le autovetture in luoghi lontani dalla Chiesa
parrocchiale.

50 actors with a “Passion”
In 2002, Pozzale began commemorating the death of Christ with
a representation of the Passion using live actors. Such events
are held in many other places in Italy, but here the re-evocation of
Christ’s suffering is particularly heavy with spiritual meaning. On
Good Friday, at 19.30 in the Church of San Tommaso, the trial
of Jesus begins: before the people and the Roman soldiers, the
reading is made of the Passion of Christ, taken from the gospels.
Towards 20.30 the procession sets out along the streets of the
village, illuminated only by the glow of torchlights and thousands of
little candles. The stations of the Way of the Cross are represented
by the fountains of the village, which are decorated in such a way
as to create a poignant, moving, almost surreal atmosphere. The
head of the guards on horseback leads the procession, which,
station after station, stops on the hill of the Church where Jesus
Christ will be crucified between two thieves, beneath the gaze of
the people of Jerusalem, played by over 50 extras in costume.
The Way of the Cross will take place irrespective of the weather
conditions. Those who wish to attend this touching moment of
prayer are strongly advised to get to Pozzale well in advance and to
park well away from the parish church.

Sulle pendici boscose che
salgono verso le Cime
dell’Auta, nascosta assieme al
suo scrigno di storia e ricordi,
sorge la località di Jore. Tutti
gli anni, l’ultima domenica di
maggio, i valligiani salgono
in “rogazione” all’antica
Chiesetta dedicata alla Vergine
Immacolata Concezione,
sorta nel 1858 e restaurata
negli anni Settanta, dopo
che nell’autunno del 1944
era stata incendiata nel
corso di una rappresaglia
tedesca. La processione,
che quest’anno avrà luogo
domenica 25 maggio, è
divenuta nel tempo una sorta
di tradizionale apertura della
stagione estiva frequentata,
oltre che dai valligiani, anche
da molti turisti. La rogazione
a fulgore et tempestate ha
inizio a Sappade, dall’antica
chiesa della Santa Croce:
da qui una piacevole e facile
passeggiata di circa quaranta
minuti, attraverso il bosco
di larici ed abeti, raggiunge
Jore dove don Bruno, parroco
di Caviola, celebra la Santa
Messa. La giornata prosegue
con un pic-nic organizzato dai
Crodaioli dell’Auta, al lavoro fin
dal mattino per preparare le
“polente” necessarie a sfamare
gli intervenuti, e si conclude
con l’oramai immancabile
partita alla “morra”, tradizionale
sfida di un tempo.

Primavera: tempo di processioni e passeggiate nella natura
Un tempo a primavera, non appena la stagione si metteva al bello e la natura cominciava a risvegliarsi dal sonno invernale, arrivava il
tempo delle Rogazioni. Di solito queste processioni propiziatorie si svolgevano in concomitanza delle feste religiose di Corpus Domini e
dell’Ascensione: ogni Parrocchia organizzava la propria processione che, partendo dalla Chiesa, si snodava fra strade, campi e sentieri.
Ogni tanto la processione si fermava, di solito nei pressi di un capitello - una piccola edicola con immagini sacre posta sui bivi, nelle frazioni
e nei pressi di confini comunali- e si intonava la supplica A fulgore et tempestate, con tutto il popolo in ginocchio, in preghiera pensando al
futuro raccolto che spesso costituiva l’unica fonte di sostentamento. Al termine della processione si svolgevano quindi i riti della semina. Oggi
ripercorrere questi antichi sentieri, queste stradine silenziose e lontane dal traffico, ci consente di riscoprire le testimonianze della devozione
popolare locale, ma anche di allontanarci per un po’ dalla frenesia della vita moderna: soffermarsi ad ammirare un capitello, respirare il profumo
dei fiori che sbocciano generosi nei prati, riscoprire i sapori di un tempo nei tanti locali agrituristici della Conca Agordina.

Spring: the season of processions and nature walks
In times gone by, spring meant not only the first warm days and the awakening of nature from its winter slumbers
– it also meant it was time for the Rogation processions. Normally these took place during the religious festivals
of Corpus Domini and the Ascension: each Parish used to organize its own procession which would set out from
the Church and move solemnly on through the streets of the village and the surrounding fields and country paths.
Occasionally the procession would stop - usually by a little shrine with a holy picture inside, situated at a fork in the
road, in the outlying hamlets and on the border between one municipality and the next – and the faithful would kneel
down and pray for God to protect the coming harvest “a fulgore et tempestate” (from lightning and storms). These
days a walk along these ancient paths and these quiet little roads far from the roar of the traffic offers us the
opportunity not only to observe the signs of popular local religious devotion, but also to take a brief rest from the
frantic pace of modern life, by stopping to admire a shrine, breathing in the scent of the flowers which carpet the
fields or sampling some delicious traditional local delicacies in one of the many farmhouse restaurants to be found
in the Agordo Basin.

Volete pedalare con tutta la famiglia tra le bellezze della Valboite?
Sette itinerari, semplici e sicuri, si snodano in questa splendida zona
della provincia di Belluno. Ogni percorso vi invita a conoscere meglio
una località della valle ed i suoi dintorni: San Vito, Borca, Vodo, Cibiana,
Calalzo… Non solo l’incanto del paesaggio e delle Dolomiti ma anche
tanta cultura e arte in questi originali tracciati che costeggiano la
casa natale del pittore Tiziano a Pieve di Cadore, i Murales di Cibiana,
la “Ciasa de ra Regoles” a Cortina e tante
chiesette dalla tipica architettura di montagna.
E, ancora, avventura per i più piccoli che,
attraversando boschi secolari e torrenti dalle
acque cristalline, avranno la sensazione
di scoprire le varie tappe come una vera
caccia al tesoro.
Di notevole interesse è il percorso che
si snoda lungo la Strada Regia: una
ventina di chilometri che ripercorrono
parte dell’antica via di collegamento tra
l’entroterra veneziano ed il territorio
asburgico. Panorami mozzafiato
per chi sceglie invece “La lunga
via delle Dolomiti”, un itinerario di
media difficoltà che da Calalzo di
Cadore vi porta sino alla splendida
Cortina. Ad ogni itinerario è
dedicata una scheda, corredata di
cartina e informazioni tecniche, che vi guiderà,

pedalata dopo pedalata, sino alla meta. Gli itinerari sono in totale sette,
da raccogliere in un originale cofanetto. Ma gli appassionati delle due
ruote troveranno nel Bellunese tante altre opportunità di escursione:
dal rilassante itinerario ciclistico che si snoda attorno al lago di Santa
Croce ai percorsi più impegnativi, che sapranno soddisfare anche
le esigenze dei ciclisti più esperti. E per i più temerari ecco tornare
anche quest’anno la Gran Fondo DolomitiStars, la gara ciclistica per
confrontarsi con le estreme pendenze della Regina delle Dolomiti,
lungo le strade che il prossimo 25 maggio saranno teatro, ancora una
volta, della grande sfida del 91° Giro d’Italia.

How do you fancy pedalling along with the whole family amid the
beautiful landscape of Valboite? We have seven routes to suggest, all
of them safe and easy, which run through this splendid area of the
province of Belluno. Each route will allow you to get to know one of the
towns and villages in the valley and the areas around them: San Vito,
Borca, Vodo, Cibiana, Calalzo. Visitors will be able to enjoy not only
the delightful landscape and the stunning views, but also a great deal
of art and culture, along these original itineraries which run close to
the house where Titian was born, in Pieve di Cadore, the Murales wall
paintings in Cibiana, the “Ciasa de ra Regoles” in Cortina, as well as a
host of little churches in typical mountain architectural style. And the
little ones will love these trips too – pedalling their way through ancient
woodlands and alongside crystal clear mountain streams will feel just
like going on a treasure hunt through nature. Particularly interesting
is the route which runs along the “Strada Regia” (Royal Way): about

twenty kilometres along part of the ancient
road which once linked the inland of Venice
with the Habsburg territory. Breathtaking
views await those who prefer to opt for
the “Lunga via delle Dolomiti” (the Long
Road of the Dolomites), a medium-difficulty
itinerary which runs from Calalzo di Cadore
to the splendid Cortina. An information file
is available for each itinerary, complete
with maps and technical information, which
will guide you step by step to your chosen
destination.
Cycling and mountain bike fans will find a
whole host of opportunities in the rest of
the Belluno area too: from relaxing cycle
routes to more challenging itineraries, able
to satisfy even the most expert cyclists.
For the more adventurous, this year sees
the return of the Gran Fondo DolomitiStars
long-distance race, during which competitors
tackle the steepest slopes on the Queen of
the Dolomites; on the 25th of May the same
roads will once again be the scene of one of
the most thrilling stages of the 91st edition
of the Giro d’Italia.

La bici, il lago e tanto relax
L’Alpago, oltre alla possibilità di praticare numerosi sport sia in
inverno che in estate, dalla vela allo sci d’alpinismo, offre ampi
spazi percorribili anche per gli amanti della bicicletta. Cosa
c’è di meglio che avventurarsi con la propria mountain bike
respirando un pò d’aria pulita, tra le bellezze paesaggistiche
della conca? Una nuova e curata pista ciclo-pedonale vi
porterà dal comune di Puos a quello di Farra, passando vicino
a prati, torrenti e ad una splendida oasi naturale. La strada
pianeggiante, con fondo di ghiaia ed in parte di terra battuta,
è percorribile senza fatica anche dai bambini: si snoda lontano
dai pericoli delle auto ed è molto silenziosa, piacevole per una
pedalata tranquilla ammirando il paesaggio e la natura, fino ad
arrivare sulle sponde del lago. L’ultimo tratto lo costeggia infatti
da vicino e, specialmente d’estate nell’ora del tramonto, l’acqua
riflette i raggi del sole e la cornice di monti circostanti, donando
al paesaggio un’atmosfera davvero incantevole.
The Alpago area, which offers visitors the opportunity to practise a wide range of sports all year round - from sailing to ski mountaineering
- is also a wonderful place to go cycling. There is nothing quite like venturing off on your mountain bike into the clear, fresh air of the Alpago
basin, enjoying the superb landscape as you pedal along. A superb new walking/cycling path runs from the municipality of Puos to the
municipality of Farra, alongside fields, mountain streams and a splendid nature oasis. The flat road, part gravel and part dirt-track, can easily
be tackled even by children: far from the dangers of traffic, quiet and pleasant, it is ideal for a peaceful cycling trip through a superb natural
landscape, which leads to the banks of the lake. The last stretch of the route runs around the lakeside, and, especially at dusk in the summer
months, the waters reflect the sun’s rays and the mountain peaks which encircle the lake, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere.

Two champion events
È in programma per sabato 24 maggio la terza edizione di questa
gara ciclistica che si propone di ripetere ed incrementare il successo
ottenuto negli scorsi anni, per diventare un appuntamento fisso per i
grandi appassionati delle due ruote. La manifestazione, organizzata da
DolomitiStars in collaborazione con la Gazzetta dello Sport, si svolgerà
su due percorsi di lunghezza diversa, la Gran Fondo Tappa della
Leggenda e la Medio Fondo, entrambe con partenza da Arabba.
La gara si svolgerà sui tracciati che, il giorno successivo, vedranno
la partenza ed il passaggio del 91° Giro d’Italia, in partenza domenica
25 maggio da Arabba e che raggiungerà la linea del traguardo posta
al Passo Fedaia. Cicloturisti ed amatori potranno quindi cimentarsi
proprio sui passi del Mito, gli stessi passi che a distanza di poche ore si
troveranno ad affrontare i grandi campioni del ciclismo. Per l’occasione,
ad Arabba, sarà allestito un villaggio expo con stand espositivi e
gastronomici con la collaborazione delle associazioni locali.

Saturday 24th May will see the third edition of this cycling competition, which aims to repeat and to build upon the success obtained by
the previous editions, and to become an established event on the cycling enthusiast’s calendar. Organized by DolomitiStars in collaboration
with the Gazzetta dello Sport, the event will take place over two routes of different length: the Tappa della Leggenda Long-Distance route
and the Middle-Distance route, both of which start out from Arabba. The race takes place on the route which the following day will welcome
the stage of the 91st Giro d’Italia, which starts out from Arabba on Sunday 25th May and reaches the finishing line on the Fedaia Pass. So
cycle tourists and amateur cyclists will have the chance to measure up against those same legendary mountain passes that just hours later
will be tackled by the finest cyclists in the world. In Arabba, with the collaboration of a number of local associations, an expo village will be
set up for the occasion, with exhibition and food stalls.

Domenica 25 Maggio 2008, una data che ricorderemo!
Il 91° Giro d’Italia vedrà svolgersi nel Bellunese una tappa
spettacolare, con partenza dalla nota località di Arabba ed
arrivo al Passo Fedaia al cospetto della Marmolada, la Regina
delle Dolomiti. Questo “tappone” lungo 153 Km attraverserà
cinque impegnativi passi Dolomitici: Pordoi, San Pellegrino,
Giau, Falzarego e Fedaia.
Inizierà da Arabba, con una prima impegnativa salita lungo il
passo Pordoi, scendendo poi fino a Canazei dove, attraverso la
Val di Fassa, si giungerà alla salita del passo San Pellegrino con
successiva discesa a Falcade e Cencenighe. Una deviazione
porterà alla scoperta dell’inedito percorso di San Tomaso
Agordino per raggiungere prima Alleghe e poi Selva di Cadore.
Pochi chilometri dopo comincerà l’ardua salita verso il passo
Giau e successivamente verso il passo Falzarego. Dopo una
lunga discesa fino a Caprile si proseguirà fino alla meravigliosa
gola dei Serrai di Sottoguda per giungere finalmente a
Malga Ciapela. Da qui lo spettacolo dell’arrivo in salita, delle
forti pendenze sulle quali i grandi campioni ci regaleranno
indimenticabili emozioni, conquistando la Regina delle Dolomiti.

Five mountain passes and a gorge set
to decide the fate of the GIRO D’ITALIA
Sunday 25th of May 2008 is sure to be a day to remember! A
spectacular stage of the 91st edition of the Giro d’Italia will take
place in the Belluno area, starting out from the well-known tourist
resort of Arabba and arriving at the Fedaia Pass in the sight of the
Marmolada, the Queen of the Dolomites.
This crucial 153 km long stage will cross five challenging Dolomite
passes: Pordoi, San Pellegrino, Giau, Falzarego and Fedaia. From
the starting line in Arabba, an initial demanding climb up the
Pordoi Pass will be followed by a descent down to Canazei where,
through the Val di Fassa, the cyclists will reach the climb up the San
Pellegrino Pass and the subsequent descent down to Falcade and
Cencenighe.
A diversion will lead to the discovery of the new San Tomaso
Agordino route, to reach first Alleghe and then Selva di Cadore. Just
a few kilometres later begins the arduous climb up towards the Giau
Pass and from there on towards the Falzarego Pass. After a long
descent down to Caprile, the route continues on to the stunning
Serrai di Sottoguda gorge and finally to Malga Ciapela.
And it is here that the spectacular climb up to the finishing line
begins, with the world’s finest cyclists tackling steep slopes and
offering spectators a thrilling, unforgettable display of their talents
as they conquer the Queen of the Dolomites.

Fino al 12 aprile rimane aperto anche il Sellaronda, il suggestivo giro

intorno al massiccio dolomitico del Sella. Imperdibile anche lo Skitour
Trevalli, il tour di emozioni che dal Passo San Pellegrino arriva a
Falcade. Ma una giornata occorre dedicarla in esclusiva alla “regina”,
la Marmolada. Per raggiungere la cima direttamente si può partire
da Malga Ciapela. Da Arabba, invece, il nuovo impianto Funifor -che
nel 2005-2006 ha sostituito la vecchia funivia, incrementandone la
stabilità e potenziando la portata oraria a 800 persone/ora- si sale
a Portavescovo. Da qui si scende con gli sci lungo la pista Ornella,
raggiungendo Pescoi e proseguendo la “marcia di avvicinamento”
attraverso i passi Padon e Fedaia ed arrivando infine, in tre tappe, a
Punta Rocca, pochi metri sotto la vetta del ghiacciaio.

As a result of the snow which fell in abundance this winter,
the season will be extended until the 13th of April in the
DolomitiSuperski ski area. Skiers will thus have the opportunity to
enjoy perfectly snow-covered slopes right into the spring -90% of
them are located at an altitude of between 1500 m and the 3269 m
of the Marmolada glacier. A wide range of special deals are on offer,
especially for families: with the DolomitiSuperKids offer (15th March-
13th April), accommodation and skipasses are free for children
under 8, while those from 8-12 pay half price (maximum 2 children,
for a minimum of 7 days’ stay, sharing a room with parents). The
DolomitiSuperSun deal (22nd March-13th April), offers you a free
day’s holiday on the snow –7 days’ accommodation for the price of

What if you’re single and fancy a week on the slopes? The
Dolomites are just the place for you: for single visitors holidaying
in the superb Dolomiti Superski ski area, a range of events and
opportunities to meet people are organized, and there is also
a website where you can post your own advertisements and
messages (www.dolomitisuperski.com). Or why not join up with
others on one of the ski tours in the Belluno area? Those interested
in history should not miss the Great War Tour, while if you fancy
taking a ski trip down memory lane, there’s the Skitour Olimpia,
which follows the route of the races held during the Winter
Olympics which Cortina d’Ampezzo hosted in 1956. Until the 12th
of April there is also the opportunity to tackle the Sellaronda,
the fascinating ski tour of the Five Passes (Falzarego, Gardena,
Campolongo, Pordoi and Sella) around the Dolomite massif of the
Sella, while another superb option is the exciting Trevalli Skitour
from the San Pellegrino Pass to Falcade.
And you really should not fail to dedicate a full day to the Queen of
the Dolomites, the Marmolada. To reach the top directly, you can
set out from Malga Ciapela, while from Arabba, you can take the new
Funifor cableway (which in 2005-2006 replaced the previous one,
making it more stable and increasing the passengers per hour rate
to 800) up to Portavescovo. From here you can ski down the Ornella
slope and reach Pescoi, and from there push on to the Padon and
Fedaia Passes and finally, in three stages, to Punta Rocca, just a few
metres beneath the peak of the glacier.

Anche di notte, sci ai piedi
A partire dall’inverno 2007-08 e fino a fine stagione, l’Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Sci
di Fondo Val di Zoldo garantisce la gestione e la battitura delle piste di sci nordico presenti nella
Valle. La pista di Palafavera in comune di Zoldo Alto (m. 1550) consiste in un tracciato di complessivi
7,5 km, adatto sia ad atleti che a sciatori meno esperti. Il percorso è battuto sia per la
tecnica libera che per la tecnica classica (è omologato per gare nazionali), e nei pressi della partenza
si trovano due bar-ristoranti con alloggio e un noleggio sci. In comune di Forno di Zoldo si
trova invece la pista di Pralongo (m. 975), un tracciato di media difficoltà di 6 km, battuto solo
per la tecnica classica. Infine, sempre a Forno di Zoldo, apertura garantita anche per la pista di
Campo (m. 845), un anello lungo 1,2 km adatto ai principianti e dotato di impianto di illuminazione.
Gli amanti dello sci alpino possono invece, fino a fine stagione, provare l’emozione di sciare
di notte sulle piste Foppe e Cristelin, in località Pecol di Zoldo Alto. Le piste sono aperte dal
martedì al sabato, dalle ore 19.00 alle 23.00. Da quest’anno, nelle giornate di martedì e giovedì,
lo skipass serale è in promozione a soli € 11,00 (€ 18,00 gli altri giorni della settimana).

From beginning to end of the 2007-08 winter/spring season, the Val di Zoldo Cross-Country
Skiing Amateur Sports Association guarantees the care and grooming of the cross-country ski
trails present in the Valley. The Palafavera trail in the municipality of Zoldo Alto (1550 m) is a
total of 7.5 km long, and is suitable for both professional athletes and less experienced skiers.
The route is groomed for both free-style and classical techniques, and near the start there are two
bar-restaurants which offer accommodation and ski hire. In the municipality of Forno di Zoldo you
will find the Pralongo trail (975 m), a 6 km long medium-difficulty route, groomed for classical
technique only. Also open throughout the season in Forno di Zoldo is the Campo trail (845m), a
1.2 km-long circular route suitable for beginners and floodlit at night. Until the end of the season,
downhill skiers on the other hand can enjoy the thrill of skiing beneath the stars on the Foppe and
Cristelin slopes in Pecol di Zoldo Alto. The slopes are open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 19.00
to 23.00. From this year, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the evening skipass can be purchased at a
special discount price of just € 11 (as opposed to € 18 during the rest of the week).

di emozioni
Giunge quest’anno alla terza edizione il SuperGigantissimo
della Marmolada, la più importante tra le manifestazioni
sportive che hanno fatto davvero la storia della regina
delle Dolomiti. La gara è inserita nello Ski-Challenge, tre
competizioni sciistiche per un solo circuito organizzato da
DolomitiStars. La prima prova è in programma per il 28
marzo 2008, per una prova di Gigante in notturna sulle
piste illuminate Cristelin e Foppe di Zoldo. Il 6 aprile sarà
la volta della seconda prova, il Gigantissimo Passo San
Pellegrino – Falcade sulla pista nera del Col Margherita, 70
porte per 3600 m. di tracciato con un dislivello di 638 m.
L’appuntamento con il gran finale sulla Regina delle Dolomiti
è per sabato 12 aprile 2008, uno slalom gigante sulla
pista “La Bellunese” con partenza da Serauta ed arrivo a
Ciamp de Lobia – 110 porte – 5800 m. di pista – 1100 m.
di dislivello.
Una gara che promette grandi emozioni e che, nelle scorse
edizioni, ha visto anche la partecipazione di grandi campioni
–tra gli altri Cristian Ghedina, Karen Putzer, i fratelli Senoner,
Mirko Deflorian, Christian Deville e Florian Eisath.

This year sees the third edition of the SuperGigantissimo della Marmolada, the most important of the sporting events that have truly marked
the history of the Queen of the Dolomites. The competition forms part of the Ski-Challenge, three skiing competitions on one circuit organized
by DolomitiStars. The first stage of the competition is scheduled for the 28th of March 2008, and will be a giant slalom race held at night on
the floodlit Cristelin and Foppe slopes in Zoldo. The second stage, held on the 6th of April, is the Gigantissimo giant slalom race from the San
Pellegrino Pass to Falcade on the black slope of Col Margherita. The grand finale third stage is set for Saturday 12th April on the Queen of the
Dolomites, and is a giant slalom race down the “La Bellunese” slope, departing from Serauta and arriving at Ciamp de Lobia: a 5800 m route
with 110 gates and a level difference of 1100 m. This is sure to be a thrilling event, and the previous editions have seen the participation of a
number of champion skiers such as Cristian Ghedina, Karen Putzer, the Senoner brothers, Mirko Deflorian, Christian Deville and Florian Eisath.
Tre uomini e la montagna,
la sfida della staffetta alpina
Sabato 5 aprile 2008, per la IX volta consecutiva si tiene a Misurina
la Staffetta Alpina. E’ una gara a squadre, composte da tre partecipanti
ciascuna, che si sfidano su tre distinte discipline: 5 km di sci
di fondo a tecnica libera, risalita con gli sci di alpinismo al Rifugio
Col de Varda per una distanza di 2 km ed un dislivello di 450m. e,
infine, discesa in slalom gigante. Nell’edizione 2007 si sono presentate
ben 52 squadre, molte delle quali provenienti da fuori provincia.
La partenza della prima frazione è prevista per le ore 9.30, presso
il Centro Fondo a Misurina. Al termine della manifestazione, presso il
Ristorante Alla Baita, spaghettata per tutti e premiazioni. Insomma…
sciolinate gli sci, precettate un paio di amici e non perdetevi l’ultima
occasione per salutare l’inverno!

Saturday 5th April 2008 sees the 9th consecutive edition of the Staffetta Alpina relay competition, in which teams of three compete against each
other over three different disciplines: 5 km of free-style cross-country skiing, a ski mountaineering climb up to the Col de Varda Refuge (2 km with a
level difference of 450m) and a giant slalom descent. 52 teams took part in last year’s edition, many of them from outside the province. The first stage
is scheduled to start out at 9.30 from Misurina Cross Country Skiing Centre. At the end of the event the prize-giving ceremony will be held in the Alla
Baita Restaurant, with spaghetti for all. So get your skis oiled, rope in a couple of friends and don’t miss this opportunity to see off the winter in style!

è in programma per il 30 marzo sulle piste del San Pellegrino,
seguiranno gli appuntamenti con la prova di golf (13 aprile presso Ca’
della Nave) e la regata di vela prevista per l’11 maggio a Caorle. Ogni
tappa vedrà la consegna di premi e gadget per tutti.

golf and sailing. Friendship, cooperation and
group spirit are the values on which this team competition is based; open to all, the event this year reaches its fifth edition. The first stage is
set for the 30th of March on the San Pellegrino slopes, and it will be followed by the golf competition (on the 13th of April at Ca’ della Nave)
and the regatta scheduled to take place on the 11th of May in Caorle. At the end of each stage there will be prizes and mementoes for all.

Chi si avvicina al Volo Libero è soprattutto un amante della natura:
la conosce, la teme, la rispetta. Più d’ogni altra attività sportiva, il
volo in deltaplano ed in parapendio è sinonimo di libertà e di indipendenza:
praticarlo vuol dire conoscere bene se stessi e la natura
che ci circonda, misurarsi ogni volta con la voglia di veleggiare
nella vastità dello spazio ed i limiti che la natura stessa impone.
Libertà non significa però improvvisazione. Non è possibile imparare
da soli: innanzi tutto per la propria incolumità personale e poi
perché, per legge, bisogna frequentare una scuola riconosciuta
dall’Aero Club d’Italia. Nel Bellunese ci si può avvicinare a questo

La scuola “Volo Libero Monte Avena”, nata grazie alla passione
per il volo di Maurizio Bottegal e Ivo Gadenz, è un punto di riferimento
per tutti coloro che desiderano avvicinarsi al più puro degli
sport dell’aria. Composta da ben tre istruttori nazionali, la Scuola
di Parapendio Monte Avena è il modo più facile e sicuro per
imparare a volare. Il segreto? La passione per il volo! Una novità
assoluta di questi giorni è la possibilità di provare, sul Monte
Nevegal sopra Belluno, lo “Speed Rider” uno sport nato da
qualche anno, che sta conquistando molti sciatori d’oltralpe, a
mezza via fra lo sci e il parapendio. Si usa un piccolo parapendio
e gli sci senza bastoncini, ed in un paio di giorni si fanno salti
inimmaginabili con gli sci. Il comprensorio del Nevegal, fra i primi
in Italia, ha già approntato una pista per lo “Speed Rider”.
Per gli ospiti invece che desiderano vedere la provincia da un
alt(r)o punto di vista, gli istruttori della Scuola di Volo Dolada,
una delle prime scuole nate in Italia grazie all’impegno di Felice
Boccanegra, sono disponibili anche ad accompagnamento in
“tandem”. Il volo biposto, che dura dai 15 ai 20 minuti, richiede
un unico sforzo, una breve corsa, per permettere il decollo. Tutto
il resto del volo avverrà godendosi il panorama, comodamente
seduti nell’imbrago, davanti al pilota. Oltre alla conca dell’Alpago,
in inverno è possibile effettuare voli biposto anche da Palafavera
(Zoldo Alto).

Anyone who decides to try their hand at Free Flying is usually motivated
above all by a love of nature, which he knows well, but also fears and
respects. More than any other sporting discipline, hang-gliding and
paragliding are synonymous with freedom and independence, and
those who practise these sports must know themselves as well as they
know the nature which surrounds them, because they are continually
driven by the desire to glide through the vast open spaces but within
the limits which Nature imposes upon them. Freedom does not equal
improvisation, however, and this is a sport that cannot be selftaught:
first of all because it is potentially dangerous, and secondly
because learners are legally required to attend a school recognised
by the Italian Aero Club. In the Belluno area you can try your hand at
this sport by attending the courses and schools on Monte Avena
(Feltrino area) and Monte Dolada (Alpago).
The “Monte Avena Free Flying School”, which was set up as a result
of the passion for the sport of Maurizio Bottegal and Ivo Gadenz, is
a point of reference for all those who wish to try out the most pure
of air sports. Attending the Monte Avena Paragliding School, with its
three national instructors, is the easiest and safest way to learn to fly.
The secret? A passion for flying! For the very first time, this season
on Monte Nevegal above the city of Belluno you can try the “Speed
Rider”, a new sport which in recent years has become popular with
many skiers beyond the Alps and is something of a cross between
skiing and paragliding. A small paraglider and skis without poles are
used, and in a couple of days unimaginable leaps can be made on the
skis. The Nevegal ski area is among the first in Italy to offer a slope
for fans of this new extreme sport.
For those visitors who wish to see the province from another, higher
viewpoint, the instructors of the Dolada Flying School, one of the first
to be set up in Italy thanks to the efforts of Felice Boccanegra, are
also willing to accompany enthusiasts on “tandem” flights, which last
15-20 minutes: the only effort required is a brief run to get you up
into the air – thereafter you can relax and enjoy the view, comfortably
seated in your harness in front of the pilot. As well as from the
Alpago Basin, in winter these tandem flights can also take place from
Palafavera (Zoldo Alto).

Un’oasi incontaminata da scoprire in moto
I meravigliosi paesaggi e la natura del Comelico offrono agli amanti dei viaggi in motocicletta dei panorami incantevoli. Percorrendo la statale
che collega Santo Stefano di Cadore a Padola di Comelico, si possono ammirare i caratteristici paesini dislocati sopra i pendii, con
le tipiche casette di montagna ed i numerosi tabià (stalle e fienili). Poi, una volta raggiunta Padola, si prosegue lungo la tortuosa strada
romana fino al Passo Sant’Antonio, da dove si gode una splendida vista sulle vette dolomitiche, il lago di Sant’Anna ed i Piani di Danta,
vasti prati che in primavera si ricoprono di immense distese di fiori di montagna. Si continua poi in discesa, percorrendo i molteplici
tornanti che ci conducono verso l’abitato di Auronzo e poi oltre, verso Misurina, la perla delle Dolomiti con il suo meraviglioso lago.

An unspoilt oasis to discover by motorbike
The wonderful landscape and nature of the
Comelico area offer motorbike enthusiasts the
chance to enjoy some spectacular views. Along
the trunk road which links Santo Stefano di
Cadore with Padola di Comelico, you can
admire the typical little villages dotted around
the hillsides, with characteristic mountain-style
houses and numerous tabià, or haysheds.
Then, once you reach Padola, you can
continue along the tortuous, winding Roman
road to the Sant’Antonio Pass, from which
there are splendid views out over the peaks of
the Dolomites, Sant’Anna Lake and the Piani di
Danta, a vast area of grassland which in spring
is covered with a blanket of mountain flowers in
bloom. From here you can go down around the
numerous bends which lead towards the town
of Auronzo and then on towards Misurina, the
pearl of the Dolomites, with its marvellous lake.

BIRRA DOLOMITI,
buona anche per l’ambiente
Dalla tradizione spunta una birra fatta con i prodotti del territorio.
Birra Castello l’ha riscoperta, valorizzando gli agricoltori e il paesaggio.
È disponibile da Pasqua la prima birra realizzata interamente con
l’orzo bellunese. Si chiama Birra Dolomiti, è a doppio malto, viene
realizzata da Birra Castello nello stabilimento di Pedavena ed è un
caso unico nel panorama italiano.
Prodotta secondo un’antica ricetta che fino agli anni Sessanta ha
reso famosa la Pedavena, Birra Dolomiti è il risultato di un progetto
avviato nel 2007 da Provincia di Belluno, Slowfood, Comunità
montana feltrina, Parco delle Dolomiti e 15 aziende agricole che
hanno accettato di reintrodurre la coltivazione dell’orzo, ormai
andata in disuso. Complessivamente sono stati destinati all’orzo
60 ettari nelle aree del Parco delle Dolomiti ed il raccolto del 2007
ammonta a circa 500 quintali. Birra Castello ha ritirato l’intero
raccolto per farne una birra di élite la cui edizione sarà limitata, così
come la distribuzione, circoscritta alla sola provincia di Belluno ed
alla rete dei Parchi e delle aree protette.
La particolarità di questa birra va dal processo di miscela del
malto, alla fermentazione ed ai lunghi tempi di maturazione a basse
temperature usuali nei tempi passati. La ricetta originale, come
testimoniano i documenti dei vecchi Mastri Birrai, viene reintrodotta
dopo moltissimi anni per la produzione di questa birra in cui, oltre
al malto locale, viene utilizzato luppolo di pregio dalle particolari
qualità organolettiche.
Le sue caratteristiche sono quelle previste dalla severa legislazione
italiana in materia che prevede, per questa tipo di birra, la
denominazione di Birra Doppio Malto. Il gusto è pieno, rotondo,
fruttato con sentori di cereale e dal delicato aroma di luppolo

aromatico. La reintroduzione della coltivazione dell’orzo, molto
comune nel Bellunese fino alla metà del secolo scorso, ha ricadute
positive anche in termini ambientali, perché consente la rotazione
delle colture e recupera così il paesaggio tradizionale bellunese,
caratterizzato dall’alternanza di campi di mais e di orzo.

From the annals of tradition, a beer made with the fruits of the local land,
re-discovered by Birra Castello to the advantage of the local farmers and landscape.
From this Easter onwards, visitors – and locals – will be able to
enjoy the very first beer made entirely with locally-grown barley
from Belluno. This double-malt beer, without equal on the Italian
market, will be known as Birra Dolomiti, and will be made in Birra
Castello’s Pedavena brewery.
Produced according to an age-old recipe which made Pedavena
beer famous until the Sixties, Birra Dolomiti is the fruit of a project
which was set in motion in 2007 by the Province of Belluno, the
Slowfood organization, the Comunità montana feltrina, the Dolomiti
Bellunesi National Park and 15 farming businesses which agreed to
reintroduce the growing of barley, a crop which had gradually been
abandoned over the years. A total of 60 hectares in the areas of
the Park were given over to barley, and the 2007 harvest amounted
to around 500 quintals, the entire amount of which was collected by
Birra Castello in order to make this exclusive, limited-edition beer,
which will be available only in the province of Belluno and through
the Parks and protected areas network.
What makes this beer so unusual is the traditional procedure used
for mixing the malt, the fermentation and the long time taken to
mature at low temperature. The original recipe, documented by
Master Brewers, has been brought back to life to produce this beer,
made using local malt enhanced with top-quality hops with particular
organoleptic properties.
Birra Dolomiti complies with the strict Italian legislation which
requires this type of beer to go under the name of Double Malt
Beer: it has a full, rounded, fruity flavour, with a hint of cereals and
a delicate scent of aromatic hops.
The reintroduction of barley, a crop which was very commonly
grown in the Belluno area until mid-way through the last century,
also has positive repercussions on the environment, because
it permits crop rotation, thus recreating the traditional local
landscape, characterized by fields of maize alternating with fields
of barley.

realtà molto sviluppata oggi in Italia a causa dell’appiattimento dei prodotti industriali. Anche in provincia di Belluno, da anni, sono presenti
alcune produzioni di nicchia. Da quattro generazioni nel mondo della birra, la famiglia Riva di Alleghe gestisce il Birrificio Bierstube
Alleghe. Qui produce due tipi di birra entrambi ad alta fermentazione. La chiara denominata “Alleghe” e una rossa a cui è stato dato il nome
di “Civetta”. Il malto utilizzato è quello della Repubblica Ceca, mentre il luppolo arriva dalla Germania. La birra di Michele e Stefano Riva è
venduta esclusivamente ai clienti del locale, spinata direttamente dai tini di maturazione e abbinata alle specialità del fornitissimo spiedo.
Arte Birraia, a Seren del Grappa, lavora solo i prodotti del territorio, a partire dall’acqua delle sorgenti della vicina Valle di Seren. Da qui il
gusto della Birra Mazarol, venduta in bottiglia nei supermercati e delle birre speciali del territorio realizzate con prosecco di Valdobbiadene,
con il marrone di Seren del Grappa, con il fagiolo di Lamon e con il mais sponcio. Da rilevare anche le “Birra gran riserva” su ricetta del
mastro birraio Germano Perera, al prosecco, ambrata e bionda destinate all’alta gastronomia e alla

ristorazione. Infine l’ormai classica Ofen in fusto da gustare alla “Locanda” di Belluno e di Feltre.

A passion for beer, a love of the job, and awareness of the importance of quality: this is what it takes
to set up a microbrewery. In recent years, the consumption of industrially-produced beer has levelled
off, leading to a swell in the numbers of these small craft breweries offering niche products all over Italy
- and Belluno is no exception to the trend. The Riva family of Alleghe have been brewing beer for four
generations, and run the Birrificio Bierstube brewpub in their home town, which produces two types
of ale, a pale variety called “Alleghe” and a red ale named “Civetta”. The malt used comes from the
Czech Republic and the hops from Germany. Michele and Stefano Riva’s beer is sold exclusively to the
establishment’s customers, on draught straight from the barrel, accompanied by the wide range of meat
specialities roasted on the spit.
The Arte Birraia brewery in Seren del Grappa works exclusively with local produce, right from the very
spring water used, which comes from the nearby Seren Valley. This explains the unique flavour of the
Mazarol Beer, sold in bottles in the local supermarkets, and the special local beers made with prosecco
wine from Valdobbiadene, chestnuts from Seren del Grappa, Lamon beans and the local “sponcio” variety
of maize. Among the finest products of the brewery are the master brewer Germano Perera’s “Birra gran
riserva” beers, an amber-coloured lager made with prosecco and served in prestigious local restaurants
and eateries. And then of course there is the Ofen cask beer, which has become a classic among the
customers of the “Locanda” pubs in Belluno and Feltre.

Fior di grappa
Dalla genziana un distillato tradizionale bellunese
La genziana, uno dei fiori più belli delle nostre Dolomiti, sboccia a primavera inoltrata
sui 1000/1500 metri. La pianta della genziana lutea, alta circa un metro, si riconosce
dai bei fiori gialli che crescono nell’incavo delle foglie più alte. La sua radice, fatta a
fitone e caratteristica per il suo sapore amarissimo, si raccoglie nel periodo autunnale:
nota per le sue preziose proprietà febbrifughe e calmanti per le malattie nervose,
è da sempre utilizzata nelle valli del Bellunese anche per produrre un’ottima grappa
casalinga.
Per ottenere una buona “sgnapa” di Genziana bisogna accuratamente pulire la radice
senza l’uso di acqua, tagliarla a pezzettini, lasciarla seccare e poi metterla in un vaso
con tre cucchiai di zucchero ed un litro di grappa genuina. Dopo due mesi si può
assaggiare e, se il punto di amaro è giusto, si possono togliere le radici. La grappa
di genziana è un buon digestivo, ma può essere utilizzata anche per preparare ottimi
aperitivi, mescolandone un solo cucchiaio nel vino bianco.

The gentian, one of the most beautiful flowers in the Dolomites, comes into bloom in
the late spring, at an altitude of 1000/1500 metres. The Great Yellow Gentian, which
is around a metre tall, can easily be recognised by the fine yellow flowers which grow

inside the highest leaves of the plant. The conical root, which has a characteristic,
bitter flavour, is picked in the autumn, and is well-known for its antipyretic and nerve-calming properties. In the valleys of the Belluno area it is
also traditionally used to make an excellent variety of home-made grappa.
To make a good gentian “sgnapa”, carefully clean the root without using water, and cut it up into small pieces. Leave the pieces to dry and
then place them in a container with three spoonfuls of sugar and a litre of genuine grappa. After two months the drink is ready for tasting,
and if the bitter taste is just right, you can then remove the root. Gentian grappa is an excellent digestive liqueur, but it can also be used to
prepare a delicious aperitif, by mixing one spoonful with a glass of white wine.

Vino refosco non invecchiato gr. 200, da ridurre sul fuoco del 50%
Formaggio Cansiglio o Alpago fresco gr. 150
Burro gr. 80
Brodo
Sale e pepe q.b.
Preparare un fondo con la cipolla e l’olio. Aggiungere il riso e lasciar
tostare per qualche minuto. Bagnare con il vino ridotto e portare a
fine cottura bagnando di tanto in tanto con brodo di carne leggero,
aggiustando il gusto con sale e pepe. Appena il riso è al dente, spegnere
il fuoco, aggiungere il burro ed il formaggio tagliato a dadini,
tenendone una piccola parte da usare come guarnizione da mettere
sul riso quando lo metteremo sul piatto. Mantecare mescolando
velocemente fino a quando il formaggio inizierà a sciogliere. Servire
ben caldo guarnendo a piacere con una parte del formaggio crudo
sopra il risotto.

Tra gli appuntamenti da segnalare, il primo sabato di maggio “andar a erbe”: riconoscimento, uso
culinario ed erboristico delle piante selvatiche; la prima domenica di giugno “giochi al torrente,
sassi, alberi e capanne per grandi e bambini” con animazione e didattica; il primo fine settimana
di maggio “erbe selvatiche in cucina”.

Ingredients for four:
350 gr Arborio rice
30 gr chopped onion
10 ml extra-virgin olive oil
200 ml non-aged Refosco wine, to be
boiled down to half that amount
150 gr fresh Alpago or organic Cansiglio
cheese
80 gr butter
Stock
Salt and pepper to taste
Soften the onion in the oil. Add the rice
and leave to toast for a few minutes. Add
the wine boiled down to half its volume
and continue cooking, occasionally
adding a little light meat stock and salt
and pepper to taste. As soon as the rice
is cooked “al dente”, remove from the
heat and add the butter and the cheese,
cut up into cubes, keeping back a small
amount to sprinkle over the rice upon
serving. Mix quickly until the cheese
begins to melt. Serve hot topped with a
few cubes of unmelted cheese.

The speciality of the “Albero degli Alberi” farm
is the processing and preparation of typical local
farm produce such as the Lamon bean, the sponcio
variety of maize, marroni chestnuts, walnuts and
honey. Children of all ages will especially enjoy the walks in
the surrounding countryside and the workshops during which they
will have the chance to make puppets and traditional toys. Among
the most interesting events organized by the farm: “andar a erbe” (May),
a trip during which visitors can go picking local wild herbs, learning how to
recognise them and how to use them for culinary or medicinal purposes; then
there’s “giochi al torrente, sassi, alberi e capanne per grandi e bambini”,
a fun, educational day out for young and old in June; while during the first week in May,
“erbe selvatiche in cucina” will teach you how to use wild herbs in cooking.

giugno con la Cortina-Dobbiaco Run, tanta bicicletta con la Granfondo
Internazionale Campagnolo a Feltre, mentre per gli amanti della
mountain bike tornano la Gara internazionale Cortina-Dobbiaco e
la Pedalonga. Ancora, appuntamento con il Torneo internazionale
estivo di curling in programma dal 26 al 29 giugno a Cortina, mentre
per gli appassionati di equitazione il mese di luglio riserva grandi
emozioni con il Cortina International Show Jumping ed il Dolomiti
Horse’s Game. Infine, a chiudere la stagione estiva, torna dal 4 al 7
settembre la Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, un appuntamento da non

Pardoning Fair held at Zumelle Castle in July, while August sees the
return once more of the traditional Palio event in Feltre. Local arts
and crafts are the star of the show from the 3rd to the 6th of July
at the City of Feltre Regional Exhibition, while Cortina plays host to
its yearly literary and current affairs events Cortina Cultura&Natura
and Cortina Incontra, as well the traditional Bands Festival, which
music fans can enjoy in August. Sports fans will also find a wide
range of events of interest, both to watch and to take part in: Feltre
and Agordo will once again host international running competitions,
while high-altitude races will take place on the Marmolada, the Civetta
and in Cortina with the Cortina-Dobbiaco Run (1st June); cycling
fans will enjoy the Campagnolo International Long Distance Race
in Feltre, and if you prefer mountain-biking, then the International
Cortina-Dobbiaco Race and the Pedalonga are for you. And there’s
more: the International Summer Curling Tournament is scheduled for
26th – 29th June in Cortina, while in July horseriding fans will love
the Cortina International Show Jumping and Dolomiti Horse’s Game
events. And finally, the summer season comes to a close with the
unmissable Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti vintage car race. Visitors

Dopo il Tiziano
è la volta di Brustolon
Un nuovo appuntamento con l’arte si prepara a Belluno per fine settembre,
quello con lo scultore e intagliatore barocco Andrea Brustolon. Sarà un
percorso originale e coinvolgente; non solo sculture ma racconto artistico, dal
legno alle opere, con progetti, disegni e bozzetti. Oltre un centinaio di opere
e due diversi filoni per l’esposizione di Palazzo Crepadona: da un lato gli
arredi d’interno con committenze di famiglie nobili bellunesi, come i Piloni, e
veneziane, a cominciare dai Venier, e dall’altro l’arte sacra, con altari, angeli
e suppellettili ecclesiastici. La mostra sarà completata da itinerari in città e
provincia (dalla Chiesa di San Pietro a Belluno al Museo Diocesano di Feltre,
sino alla Val di Zoldo) e da un ricco programma di manifestazioni collaterali.
After Titian, Brustolon
Art lovers will find another reason to return to Belluno this September: an
intriguing, original exhibition of the works of the Baroque sculptor and carver
Andrea Brustolon, during which visitors will be able not only to admire the
sculptures themselves, but to take a fascinating journey through the creative
process from block of wood to work of art, with all the plans, designs
and sketches in between. The exhibition, which will be held in Palazzo
Crepadona, will play host to more than a hundred of works of art, divided
into two main sections: one covering the interior furnishings commissioned
by noble families from Belluno and Venice and the other covering sacred
art. The event will be complemented by a series of visitor itineraries in the
city of Belluno and the rest of the province (from the Church of San Pietro in
Belluno to the Diocesan Museum in Feltre and on up to the Val di Zoldo) and
numerous collateral events.
