Secondo le rilevazioni ISTAT i costi sociali ed economici
che derivano dalla diffusa “insicurezza stradale” si attestano
intorno ai 20 miliardi di euro l’anno, con conseguenze
gravose anche sul sistema sanitario nazionale. È
in questo contesto che gli operatori stanno sviluppando soluzioni
di road safety sempre più performanti e ad alta tecnologia.
Tra questi, spicca l’attività di sviluppo, progetto e
produzione di un player Made in Italy con già alle spalle una
lunga serie di successi internazionali come SMA Road Safety,
storica azienda campana guidata da Roberto Impero, nota
per aver installato i suoi dispositivi, per esempio, nell’Eurasia
Tunnel di Istanbul e in altri interventi di rilevanza internazionale
come il quarto ponte più lungo del mondo, in Kuwait,
nonché lungo le modernissime autostrade del Qatar.
Dalla “smart barrier”
al varco Stargate
Tra i prodotti di ultima generazione del catalogo di SMA Road
Safety, una menzione va alla “smart barrier” Andromeda.
“Performance eccezionali e avanguardia tecnologica - spiegano
da SMA Road Safety - ne fanno un alleato prezioso per
i gestori grazie al sistema di sensori integrati, in grado di rilevare
impatti in tempo reale e di segnalarli anche a chilometri
di distanza, migliorando così la gestione del traffico”.
La struttura metallica di Andromeda integra elementi trasparenti
rendendo la barriera un sistema dal ridotto impatto
ambientale, anzi in grado di valorizzare il paesaggio. La
barriera alloggia inoltre un apparato di led studiato per mi-
gliorare la visibilità e limitare il rischio di incidenti, anche in
condizioni meteo avverse. Ma l’evoluzione non si ferma qui,
perché il “progetto Andromeda” ha già dato vita a un’ulteriore
soluzione tecnica, un’autentica novità per il mercato.
Si tratta di un varco di emergenza - denominato Stargate -
dall’ampiezza ridotta, certificato e innovativo che con il suo
cancello di 6 m apribile in 30 secondi consente il cambio di
carreggiata a vetture di qualsiasi dimensione, inclusi i camion,
che possono “invertire la rotta” con estrema semplicità
e in totale sicurezza.

dell’autostrada A2
Installabile ovunque, grazie alla progettazione che lo rende
idoneo a tutte le barriere new jersey più diffuse sulle strade,
Stargate si è rivelato particolarmente adatto anche a un
utilizzo all’interno delle gallerie, tra i luoghi più a rischio incidenti.
È stato appena installato infatti, per la prima volta
in Italia, sull’Autostrada A2 del Mediterraneo, in provincia
di Salerno, a gestione Anas. In generale negli ultimi mesi,
notano ancora da SMA Road Safety, si è registrata una forte
richiesta di varchi da parte dei gestori di autostrade e
strade a elevata percorrenza. “Un segnale positivo - commenta
Roberto Impero - perché l’impiego di dispositivi di
qualità certificata riduce statisticamente i costi, economici
e soprattutto in termini di vite umane. La sicurezza delle
strade deve tornare a essere una priorità per il nostro Paese,

According to ISTAT surveys, the social and economic costs
deriving from the widespread “road insecurity” amount to
around € 20 billion a year, with serious consequences also
for the national health system. It is in this context that operators
are developing road safety solutions with higher performance
and even more technology. Among these, the research,
design and production of a Made in Italy player such
as SMA Road Safety stands out with its long series of international

Road Safety - make it a precious ally for road managers thanks
to the integrated sensor system, able to detect impacts in real
time and reporting them, improving traffic management”. The
metal structure of Andromeda integrates transparent elements
making the barrier a system with reduced environmental impact,
capable of enhancing the landscape. The barrier also houses a
LED device designed to improve visibility and limit the risk of car
accidents, even in case of adverse weather conditions. But the
evolution goes on; “Andromeda project” has already given birth
to a further technical solution: the emergency gate - called Stargate.
It presents reduced width, this certified innovation allows
a 6 m opening just in 30 seconds, permitting the safe and easy
lane change to vehicles of any size, including trucks.
The Pilot Case on A2 Motorway
Stargate can be installed anywhere, thanks to the design that
makes it suitable for all the common new jersey and other barriers
on the roads; it is also beneficial inside tunnels, among the places
most at risk of car accidents. Stargate has been installed, for the
first time in Italy, on the A2 Mediterranean motorway, in the province
of Salerno, managed by Anas. During the latest months, note
SMA Road Safety, there has been a strong demand for road gates
by the highways and high-traffic roads managers. “A positive sign
