Gori Collection, Pistoia The sculpture has been donated to the city of Pistoia, by its creator Burri and myself. Apart from the sculptures at the Fondazione Burri in Città di Castello, only two cities in Italy possess one of his open-air sculptures: Pistoia and Ravenna. Alberto Burri was a regular visitor to Santomato, coming to see his friend Amendola at his home in the village or the Gori family; sometimes we all got together. So frequent were these occasions that we ended up regarding him as a member of the family. BURRI IN PISTOIA – Conscious of Alberto Burri’s links with our city, the Fondazione Caript has decided to pay tribute to him on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, as a number of other cities have done, includ- Quale migliore altro artista dell’amico Burri per un simile progetto, visto anche sul piano del prestigio internazionale? Accettata la proposta, dopo aver disegnato l’aiola su cui poggia la scultura: Grande Ferro Celle, ha progettato l’opera preoccupandosi di risolvere una serie di importanti requisiti, primo tra tutti quello della sicurezza stradale. L’opera, installata nel 1986, si compone di due triangoli sovrapposti dai quali partono delle lame di acciaio che vanno a formare tre grandi ogive, malgrado l’imponenza (h m 5,25 e Ø m 34) è completamente trasparente in modo da non ostacolare visivamente chi transita nei due sensi di marcia la vicina curva. La scultura è stata donata modalmente alla Città di Pistoia, da parte del maestro Burri e del sottoscritto.
