GRANDE FERRO CELLE – Ever since
the beginning of the eighties I had thought
it necessary to realize a work that, as well as
serving as a symbol of the collection of environmental
art at Celle, would also become
the point of reference of the entrance for visitors.
At the time the public road, in front of
the gate of the Fattoria di Celle, was a repository
for all kinds of filth, garbage dumped
mostly at night by persons unknown into a
sort of large pit at the bottom of which ran
a small watercourse. Thus the location of a

Personalmente ero già stato a Gibellina e
non potevo non condividere il sentimento
espresso dall’artista, ho così poi seguito
quasi tutte le fasi dell’operazione
attraverso le notizie che riuscivo a raccogliere
dagli amici di Città di Castello ed
anche di tanto in tanto dallo stesso Burri.
Cinque lunghi anni di lavoro, tonnellate
di cemento bianco per coprire un’area
di 90.000 mq, conclusasi nel 1989, e
