Il 6 giugno 2009, Punta della Dogana, il nuovo centro d’arte<br />
contemporanea della François Pinault Foundation a Venezia,<br />
apre le porte dopo un’importante intervento di restauro affidato<br />
all’architetto giapponese Tadao Ando. In quell’occasione<br />
è presentata la mostra “Mapping the Studio: Artists from<br />
the François Pinault Collection”, a cura di Alison Gingeras e<br />
Francesco Bonami simultaneamente a Palazzo Grassi e Punta<br />
della Dogana. Composta esclusivamente di artisti della collezione<br />
di François Pinault, questa mostra tende a sottolineare<br />
la profonda analogia tra la dimensione intima dello studio degli<br />
artisti e l’appassionata visione personale del collezionista.<br />
Questo parallelismo diventa punto di partenza per un dialogo<br />
tra le opere di artisti affermati e la produzione delle generazioni<br />
più giovani. La mostra propone infatti capolavori dell’arte<br />
contemporanea creati da artisti fortemente legati alla collezione<br />
Pinault come Jeff Koons, Sigmar Polke, Cindy Sherman,<br />
Richard Prince, Cy Twombly, Takashi Murakami e Jake e Dinos<br />
Chapman che hanno segnato gli ultimi quarant’anni anni e<br />
costituiscono l’asse portante della raccolta. A queste icone<br />
si affiancano opere di talenti emergenti come Matthew Day<br />
Jackson, Adel Abdessemed, Wilhelm Sasnal, Richard Hughes,<br />
Nate Lowman, Mark Bradford o Kai Althoff.<br />

The 6 th of June 2009, after an important restoration entrusted<br />
to the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the center for contemporary<br />
art of the Francois Pinault Foundation at Punta della<br />
Dogana in Venice opens its doors. On the occasion, the exhibition<br />
Mapping the Studio: Artists from the Francois Pinault<br />
Collection, curated by Alison Gingeras and Francesco Bonami<br />
is presented simultaneously at Palazzo Grassi and Punta della<br />
Dogana. Exclusively composed by artists from the François<br />
Pinault collection, the exhibition proposes a parallel between<br />
the intimate dimension of the workshop of an artist and the<br />
process by which the collector forges a personal vision of art,<br />
guided by the passion of research. This parallel is the starting<br />
point of a dialogue between the work of established artists<br />
with a younger generation. Thus the exhibition features uncontestable<br />
masterpieces of contemporary art by artists strongly<br />
identified such as Jeff Koons, Sigmar Polke, Cindy Sherman,<br />
Richard Prince, Cy Twombly, Takashi Murakami or Jake<br />
and Dinos Chapman that span the past 40 years and compose<br />
the collection’s backbone. These icons are shown side-byside<br />
with the work of emerging talents such as Matthew Day<br />
Jackson, Adel Abdessamed, Wilhelm Sasnal, Richard Hughes,<br />
Nate Lowman, Mark Bradford or Kai Althoff.<br />
