PINK IS PUNK is your Friday night destination in Milan.
“Pink is Punk is like a party at your best friend’s house,
where you feel at home,” says founder Marcelo Burlon,
who hails from El Bolsòn, Patagonia. Burlon is a DJ, stylist,
editor, PR, event-thrower and all the dots in-between. “You
can find the best crowd in town – a mix of street, fashion,
art, and the music scene,” he continues. Beginning life
with Andrea Mazzantini at a small bar in the canal area,
playing hip-hop, rock and indie, the party soon outgrew
its surroundings and moved to the basement of Magazzini
Generali, where it became more electro. Now, after three
years you’ll find Pink is Punk at a larger venue again, a
lapdance club from the 80s called Queen. Burlon’s favourite
memories? “Finding Róisín Murphy in the queue outside,
the night of the Versace party where Prince performed. Raf
Simons holding the Jil Sander aftershow at PiP and Tilda
Swinton showing up. And when Lea T finally decided to
wear a dress and pair of heels!” Lea T is part of Marcelo’s
supportive inner circle, a creative group of art directors,
designers, muses and more – the fabulous, fun and most of
all, REAL. Riccardo Tisci is their man in Paris – Burlon was
the first PR of Ricky, as he calls him, before Givenchy, back
when he was Italy’s romantic, upstart couturier. “The club
is me, with Paolo Farcic and Michele Lamanna at the door;

DJs. Massimo Mezzavilla is my PA and he works with me
on the graphics.” It’s where you go dancing till dawn, laugh
with your mates in the cab on the way home, then carry
on. It’s the club where Raf [Simons] will turn up and ask
for the electro to turn harder. And it’s the club that counts
Kim Ann Foxman as a returning guest; hosting The Virgins,
Fisherspooner, Devendra Banhart, Headman, Munk, Jerry
Bouthier and Horse Meat Disco’s Severino. The party has
travelled to Moscow, Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Paris and
Barcelona. “We represent a scene that the city never really
understood,” elaborates Burlon. “People think that we’re
weirdos that wear strange clothes. I don’t really care, I like
to make people happy and my parties are the chance to be
happy.” That’s punk.
