6. Operation and disposal6.4 DisposalEvacuation intervals:Unless otherwise specified, the following evacuation intervalsapply to the sewage sludge (from the preliminary sedimentationchamber):At 70% of the intake capacity of the small sewage treatmentplant, which corresponds to approx. 95 cm, the content of thesludge sump must be disposed off by a waste disposal contractor(measurement see 6.2 self-inspection of the operatoror by maintenance firm).Caution: A correct function can only be guaranteed if theplant content is disposed of in good time. For this reason, a disposal contract should be concluded withan expert company.Performing the disposalSewage sludge collects in the preliminary sedimentationchamber. This sludge must be disposed of.For taking off and replacing the duct cover use the lifting keyincluded in the supply.• Take off the duct cover.• Use the suction spout of the sewage disposal vehicle toevacuate the sludge sump or the preliminary sedimentationchamber as completely as possible.• Clean the tank walls with clear water.• Fill tank with clear water up to a height of 1.2 m.• Clean cover bearing ring.• Put on the duct cover.Important information:When disposing of the sludge trap or the preclarifying chamber(in particular in the case of plant that tends to be operatedbelow capacity), KESSEL recommends leaving about 25to 30 cm of residual sludge in the system so that enough nutrientscan be fed to the activated sludge during the periodafter disposal. If it is all disposed of, the quantity of activatedsludge will decrease due to a lack of nutrients and the cleaningperformance of the system will suffer. We also recommend ensuring that all disposal work is carriedout during the summer months if possible. The drop inthe number of bacteria cultures caused by the disposal processwill reproduce more quickly during the warm summermonths than in the winter. The sludge sump, the contents of which must be disposed of at regular intervals, is located on the inlet side of the tank.Inlet➔➔OutletCAUTION:The aeration chamber is located below the pipeline, which drains the sewage from the plant (outlet). The activated sludgeinside the chamber may on no account be disposed of! Pay attention that no mounting parts are damaged during the disposal.118
