«Il mondo è un libro e chi non viaggia neconosce solo una pagina» (Sant’Agostino).Questa frase esprime bene la necessità delviaggio come strumento per compiere appienola nostra umanità. Il tema del viaggioricorre sempre con valenza perlopiù metaforica,come analogo della vita o ancora piùdell’evoluzione personale nel processo conoscitivo.Eraclito proclamava “panta rei”,tutto scorre: la vita è movimento e il viaggioè movimento, una scuola di umiltà che faconoscere i limiti della propria comprensione,la precarietà e limitatezza dei nostrimodelli culturali secondo i quali presumiamodi giudicare altre culture. Così il viaggiodiviene strumento di conoscenza dell’altro,ma al contempo e più ancora di se stessicome sintetizza un proverbio cinese: la personache torna non è mai la stessa che è partita.Il viaggio può denotare come per Danteuno spostamento metafisico o, come accadeper Siddharta, uno spostamento fisico cheprocede di pari passo con un pellegrinaggiospirituale, in grado spesso di curare il conflittointerno psichico del suo viandante.Ma è il viandante nietzschiano che scopreil vero significato della vita. Un viandantedallo spirito fanciullo, che passa, osservae assimila con sguardo acritico. A contattocon mondi totalmente diversi accetta il relativismototale dei valori ma nonostante ciòdice sì alla vita nella sua intrinseca illogicitàe imprevedibilità, oltrepassa il deserto dellaquotidianità e del nichilismo passivo e divieneoltreuomo.Viaggiare, come ci insegna Ulisse, il piùfamoso viaggiatore di tutti i tempi, significasempre affermare la propria autonomia,con tenacia combattere contro tutto ciò chepossa ostacolare la libertà e il desiderio diconoscenza.Buon volo a tutti!EDITORIALEPaolo Gelmi«The world is a book and those who donot travel read only a page» (Saint Augustine).This quote expresses the need to travel asthe instrument for fulfilling our humanity,and the theme of travel is very often usedin a metaphorical sense, as an analogyfor life, or personal growth in the developmentof our cognitive faculties. Heraclitusproclaimed “panta rhei”, everythingflows: life is movement and travel is movement,a school of humility that lets us seethe limits of our understanding, the fragilityand limitations of the cultural modelsby which we presume to judge other cultures.Thus travel becomes the instrumentfor understanding others, but at the sametime and perhaps even more so, for understandingourselves, a concept aptly summarisedin the Chinese proverb: he whoreturns from a journey is not the same ashe who left. For Dante, travel can denote ametaphysical movement or, as in the caseof Siddhartha, a physical movement thatproceeds at the same pace as a spiritualpilgrimage, often capable of healing theinterior conflict of the traveller’s psyche.But it is Nietzsche’s traveller who discoversthe true meaning of life. The travellerwith the spirit of a child, who observesand assimilates with an uncritical eye.Coming into contact with totally differentworlds he accepts the absolute relativismof values but despite this, accepting lifeas intrinsically illogical and unpredictable,goes beyond the humdrum desertof the everyday and passive nihilism andbecomes the Ubermensch, the ‘over-man’or ‘super-man’. Just as Ulysses, the mostcelebrated traveller of all time, has taughtus, travel always means affirming one’sown independence, tenaciously fightingagainst anything standing in the way offreedom and the desire for knowledge.Happy landings to all!We are celebrating F.
