This buil<strong>di</strong>ng is also identifiedwith its owners name(Mantar). There are other rock-carved spaces near the church.Anonymous Church No.6: It is situated below the ÇukurMosque on the Dere Street (Selim Bağ River). The rockcarvedspaces on a great rock mass must have been used asparts of a monastery.Anonymous Church No.7 or Bayırlı Kilise: It is situated in theYeni Mahalle (New Neighborhood),in a cone in the garden ofhouse. There are painted motives and iconographic depictionsin the interior. The old buil<strong>di</strong>ng remains near the church musthave been used as a monastery.Anonymous Church No.8: It is situated on the south of the castle,on the northern bank of the Selim Bağ River. The nearbyrock-carved spaces must have been used as a monastery.Anonymous Church No.9 or Cambazlı Church or Aşağı BağlarChurch (Lower Vineyard): It is situated in the Yeni Mahalle,in a cone that belong to a rock formation. There are paintedmotives and iconographic depcition in the interior. The churchis dated to the 11th century based on the decoration program.Monasteries and Churches in the vicinity of OrtahisarBalkan Deresi Church: it is situated in the valley called theBalkan Valley, 3 km to the south-west of Ortahisar. Some ofthe churches on the hillsides of the valley carved into a singlecone or groups of rocks which can not be accessed.Anonymous Church No.1 has figurative depictions and painteddecoration in its interior. It is supposed to date to the endof the 5th century to the beginning of the 6th century by lookingat its decoration. It is accepted as one of the earliest rockcarvedchurches in the Cappadocia region.Anonymous Church No.2 is sistuated on top of AnonymousChurch No.. There is a Virgin Mary depiction in its apsid.Anonymous Church No.3 is situated across to two previouschurches on a wide and shallow rock formation. There arehigh relief decoration in its interior.Anonymous Church No.4 is on the back of AnonymousChurch No.3. It has iconographic depictions in its interior. Itis supposed to date to the beginning of the 10th century basedon its decorations.Pancarlık Church, is situated approximately 4 km to thesouth of Ortahisar in a valley called Pancarlık. The churchis carved out of a big but not sharp, shallow rock mass. In thenear by there are churches, chapels and cemeteries. There isan inscription over the facade of Pancarlık Church dedecatedto St.Theodore. There is an iconographic interior decoration,high relief and painted inscriptions. It is supposed to date 850-950 based on its decoration program.Tavşanlık Church, is situated approximately 5km south of Ortahisarin a region called Tavşanlık. It has iconographic interiordecorations, painted geometric motives and figurativedepictions. It is supposed to date 912-959. There is anotherchurch at the first level of this same cone.Kepez Churches, there are three churches in the Kepez valley,4km to the south-east of Ortahisar.
