AldoMessina has discovered only few years ago: they were probablyrealized during the Arab domination. The architecturalforms of Rometta look like a readaptation of the ancientmosque of Kairouan, with the common T shaped planimetryof the central gallery orthogonal to the qibla. The mosque ofSperlinga reminds the Ibadi Berber mosques, with a wall parallelto the qibla and limited spaces.Further researches and a deeper knowledge of the Islamicarchitecture will allow the recognition of Sicilian mosqueswhich have been transformed in churches. The Seljuk invasionbrought Islam in Turkey in 1081. In Cappadocia there arethe rupestrian mosques of Cavusin, Zelve, Urgup, with thecharacteristic small Seljuk minarets.
