At Ostia Antica the experience of a lifetime is waiting
for you.
Walking back in time through the dense maze of
streets which run behind the Decumanus Maximus,
you will discover an ancient world remarkably
preserved over the ages. Come and explore the daily
life of a city that managed to transform itself over the
centuries into one of ancient Rome’s most important
commercial centres.
Archaeologists working on the site today are still
bringing new discoveries to light which bear
testimony to a past which never ceases to amaze.

to the historical or cultural dimension which you would

Un appuntamento da non perdere.
Non tutti sanno che all’interno del sito
archeologico di Ostia Antica c’è uno scrigno
ricco di tesori. E’ il museo degli scavi, uno
splendido edificio di epoca rinascimentale in
origine destinato ad accogliere le scorte di
sale provenienti dalle vicine saline. Oggi le
stanze del palazzo custodiscono una
collezione di reperti archeologici di
inestimabile valore, primi fra tutti i sarcofagi
e le sculture dell’età imperiale.
The museum
Simply not to be missed.
Not everyone knows that there is a rich
treasure-trove inside the Ostia Antica
archaeological site. This is none other than
the excavation museum, a splendid
Renaissance building originally built to store
salt supplies coming from the nearby salt
pans. Today the rooms of the “palazzo”
house a priceless collection of archaeological
finds, first amongst which are the
sarcophaguses and sculptures dating from
the imperial period.
