PRESENTATION GENERALEconnaître leur histoire locale et nationale.Le projet d’itinéraire est né de la JournéeEuropéenne de la Culture Juive. Lancée, en1996, dans le département du Bas-Rhin (Alsace/ FRANCE), sous la formule de « Journées PortesOuvertes » par l’association juive B’nai B’rithHirschler de Strasbourg, en partenariat avecl’Agence de Développement Touristique duBas-Rhin, de nombreux sites furent ouverts aupublic chaque été. Des animations furent organiséesautour de ces sites, telles que visites guidées,conférences, concerts etc. Le projet futélargi trois ans plus tard et devint véritablementtransnational avec la JournéeEuropéenne de la Culture Juive 2000. Depuis,chaque premier dimanche de septembre, dansenviron 25 pays à travers l’Europe, des sites juifssont accessibles au public pour des visites etdes explications, faisant de ce jour un des évènementsmajeurs du calendrier pour le tourismeet la connaissance culturelle. L’évènementattire plus de 100 000 visiteurs chaque année.Au-delà de cette journée exceptionnelle consacréeà la rencontre avec le public, les organisateursse sont fixés comme objectif de promouvoiret de contribuer à la préservation du patrimoinejuif, partie intégrante du patrimoine culturelde l’Europe.Bas, en République Tchèque, en Royaume-Uni,en Serbie, en Slovaquie, en Ukraine).Le deuxième itinéraire que nous proposons estun itinéraire historique qui retrace un voyagede 14 ans réalisé, au 12 ème siècle, par l’illustrepersonnage Benjamin de Tudela.La création de nouveaux itinéraires dans lesannées à venir nous offrira la possibilité decréer un réseau riche d'échange d'expérienceset de promouvoir la création de nouveaux postesde travail dans les domaines de la culture etdu tourisme.Les itinéraires thématiques permettront de traverserl’Europe et de faire des échanges religieuxet culturels une réalité dans cette vastemosaïque de cultures.L’Itinéraire Européen du Patrimoine Juif estsoutenu depuis 2004 par l’Institut Européendes Itinéraires Culturels et le Conseil del’Europe et a d’ailleurs reçu, lors d’une cérémonieofficielle à Strasbourg, le 5 décembre 2005,le diplôme de « Grand Itinéraire Culturel duConseil de l’Europe ».Le premier itinéraire, créé en 2005, permet lavisite du patrimoine historique et monumentaljuif comme les synagogues, cimetières, bainsrituels, musées, archives etc. ainsi que la réalisationde nombreux travaux de restauration dece patrimoine; ceci dans le but de le mettre envaleur et d’assurer sa diffusion dans les nombreusesvilles qui composent l’itinéraire et quisont déjà impliquées dans la JournéeEuropéenne de la Culture Juive (en Belgique,en Croatie, en Espagne, en France, en Hongrie,en Italie, en Lituanie, en Luxembourg, en Pays-8
PARTNER ORGANISATIONSThe European Day of Jewish Culture and theEuropean Route of Jewish Heritage havebeen promoted by an alliance of severalJewish and non-Jewish organisations, includingtourist agencies as well as volunteer organisations.The strength of this network lies in itsvariety. This European network is composed of3 organisations, two European Jewish organisationsnamely B’nai B’rith Europe (BBE) andthe European Council of Jewish Communities(ECJC) and a Spanish network ofmunicipalities, Red de Juderias de España(Spanish Jewish Network).B’nai B’rith EuropeB’nai B’rith Europe is a Jewish association thatintends to humanitarian and social aid and ispresent in 28 countries. It has the non-governmentalorganization status. B’nai B’rith means“Son of the Alliance”, the concept of alliance is akey concept in the Bible and in Judaism. B’naiB’rith Europe pursues the action initiated bythe Strasbourg branch and intends to spread itto its entire network. It mobilizes many volunteers.Jewish Cities) is a non profit public associationwith the goal of protect urbanistic, architectural,historical, artistic and cultural SephardicHeritage in Spain.It is a cultural and touristy network that bringstogether 15 members (Ávila, Barcelona,Cáceres, Córdoba, Girona, Hervás, Jaén, León,Oviedo, Palma, Ribadavia, Segovia, Toledo,Tortosa and Tudela) and 6 associated cities(Besalú, Calahorra, Estella, Monforte de Lemos,Plasencia and Tarazona). Each of these townshas highlighted its ancient Jewish heritage andmanages a programme of animations, tours,and training. This network has actively participatedin the organization of various eventssince 1999.The three organizations are the founder membersof the AEPJ (European Association for thePreservation and Appreciation of JewishCulture and Heritage), a non-profit makingorganisation, which was created in order todevelop the projects of the European Day ofJewish Culture and the European Route ofJewish Heritage.European Council of Jewish Communities(ECJC)ECJC is a federation of European Jewish communitiesand of Non Governmental JewishOrganisations and consists of 83 membersacross 43 countries. This network is active inthe fields of social welfare, education, culture,communities development and in restitutionmatters.
