CZECH MYCOL. 58(3–4): 225–265, 2006some n<strong>on</strong>-revised taxa should be checked us<strong>in</strong>g extant types. K. Kav<strong>in</strong>a (1928,1929) described three new varieties, but without type specimens. J. Kučera (1931)published <strong>on</strong>e new species. J. Hruby (1935) described <strong>on</strong>e new variety from <strong>the</strong>area of <strong>the</strong> former <strong>Czech</strong>oslovakia. Pilát’s Klíč (Pilát 1952) is a compilati<strong>on</strong> and<strong>the</strong>refore cannot be taken as a list of species grow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> our territory. In this workhe <strong>in</strong>validly made <strong>on</strong>e new comb<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>. A. Pilát, toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> artist O. Ušák,described (<strong>in</strong>validly) <strong>on</strong>e new variety (Pilát and Ušák 1952). Later he described tw<strong>on</strong>ew species, two varieties and <strong>on</strong>e form. A significant c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong> to <strong>the</strong> study of<strong>the</strong> <strong>genus</strong> <strong>Lepiota</strong> s. l. <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> <strong>Republic</strong> was made by J. Her<strong>in</strong>k, who newly described<strong>the</strong> secti<strong>on</strong> Denudati (Her<strong>in</strong>k 1959) of <strong>the</strong> present <strong>genus</strong> Leucocopr<strong>in</strong>usPat. He also described two new forms (Her<strong>in</strong>k 1962, Her<strong>in</strong>k <strong>in</strong> Pilát 1952), and <strong>on</strong>evariety (provisi<strong>on</strong>ally). Articles by E. Wichanský (1950s–1970s) published <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>journals Česká Mykologie and Mykologický Sborník (see bibliography), <strong>in</strong> whichhe – am<strong>on</strong>g o<strong>the</strong>rs – described (mostly <strong>in</strong>validly) four new species and two varieties,are c<strong>on</strong>tributive to fur<strong>the</strong>r studies.Accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> latest f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs, <strong>the</strong> <strong>genus</strong> <strong>Lepiota</strong> s. str. is represented <strong>in</strong> Europeby 60 species – <strong>in</strong> case a narrow species c<strong>on</strong>cept is adopted (Candusso andLanz<strong>on</strong>i 1990, B<strong>on</strong> 1993); <strong>in</strong> case of a wide species c<strong>on</strong>cept <strong>the</strong>re are about 40 species(Vell<strong>in</strong>ga 2001). Candusso and Lanz<strong>on</strong>i (1990) use <strong>the</strong> divisi<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> <strong>genus</strong><strong>Lepiota</strong> s. str. <strong>in</strong>to six secti<strong>on</strong>s (Vell<strong>in</strong>ga 2001 as well), whereas B<strong>on</strong> (1993) dist<strong>in</strong>guishesmore <strong>in</strong>frageneric taxa.At present, <strong>the</strong>re is no idea about <strong>the</strong> number of species of <strong>the</strong> <strong>genus</strong> <strong>Lepiota</strong> s.str. grow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> <strong>Republic</strong> (and especially which <strong>on</strong>es). The number of <strong>the</strong>species was not published <strong>in</strong> almost any of <strong>the</strong> excerpted articles; if it was, <strong>the</strong>n it<strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>the</strong> entire <strong>genus</strong> <strong>Lepiota</strong> s. l. Most articles deal with descripti<strong>on</strong>s of speciesthat are new and <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g to science, however, a more extensivetax<strong>on</strong>omic study is miss<strong>in</strong>g.AimsThe aim of <strong>the</strong> paper is a) to establish <strong>the</strong> number of species of <strong>the</strong> <strong>genus</strong><strong>Lepiota</strong> s. str. published from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> <strong>Republic</strong>, b) to establish which species of<strong>the</strong> <strong>genus</strong> <strong>Lepiota</strong> s. str. are documented from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> <strong>Republic</strong>, c) to list <strong>the</strong>species formerly classified <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>genus</strong> <strong>Lepiota</strong> s. l., d) to check <strong>the</strong> existence oftype specimens of taxa described from <strong>the</strong> territory, e) to compile a list of speciespublished <strong>in</strong> floristic papers.METHODSThe author excerpted publicati<strong>on</strong>s c<strong>on</strong>cern<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> area of <strong>the</strong> present-day<strong>Czech</strong> <strong>Republic</strong> (i.e. <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Moravia and Silesia).226
