Pertanto è plausibileche il licopene biologico abbia una attivitàantiossidante su<strong>per</strong>iore rispetto ad unasoluzione di licopene sintetico o naturale dipari concentrazione.Il licopene biologico presenta la massimapredisposizione al processo di assimilazionepoiché non è presente in forma cristallina macome soluzione sovra-satura di licopene inun olio vegetale ricco di acidi grassi insaturi(oleoresina) (Figura 3). Questa caratteristicaè strettamente connessa con la tecnologia diproduzione. Infatti l'estrazione del licopenedal pomodoro con CO 2su<strong>per</strong>critica è favoritadalla presenza di sostanze lipidiche (provenientidalle matrici di estrazione stesse); lesostanze lipidiche, durante la separazione<strong>della</strong> fase solida da quella su<strong>per</strong>critica, impedisconoal licopene di aggregarsi in strutturecristalline dando origine ad un prodotto incui il licopene è intimamente ed uniformementecircondato da sostanze lipidiche edaltri composti di co-estrazione. I lipidi, inoltre,favoriscono la formazione delle micelle/emulsioniattraverso cui i carotenoidisono assorbiti dagli enterociti e veicolati aitessuti attraverso il flusso ematico. Studiscientifici dimostrano inoltre che, a parità dialtre condizioni, la biodisponibilità del licopeneè significativamente più elevata seassunto in presenza di ß-carotene e lipidivegetali 53 . La biodisponibilità del licopenebiologico è ulteriormente aumentata dallapresenza di una maggiore quantità di isomericis rispetto agli altri tipi di licopene.ConclusioniLa somministrazione <strong>per</strong> via sistemicadi opportuni nutrienti risulta ottimale <strong>per</strong> la<strong>cura</strong> e la salute <strong>della</strong> <strong>pelle</strong>. Integratori alimentaricontenenti opportune quantità dilicopene assieme ad altri antiossidanti naturaliestratti dal pomodoro sono utili <strong>per</strong> laprotezione <strong>della</strong> <strong>pelle</strong> da una eccessiva esposizionealle radiazioni UV e contribuiscono amigliorarne significativamente struttura edaspetto estetico. L’efficacia del trattamentodipende dalla dose di licopene assunta giornalmente,dalla sua bio-disponibilità, dallacontemporanea presenza di altre molecolebio-attive e lipidi e dal tempo di somministrazione.Diete ricche in derivati del pomodoroe trattamenti con integratori a base dilicopene naturale protratti <strong>per</strong> <strong>per</strong>iodi didurata su<strong>per</strong>iore alle 10-12 settimane hannomostrato una riduzione significativa deldanno foto-indotto e un aumento del 7% edel 15%, rispettivamente, <strong>della</strong> densità edello spessore <strong>della</strong> <strong>pelle</strong>.Il licopene sembra anche contribuire allariduzione delle rughe ed a rendere la <strong>pelle</strong>meno ruvida.Attualmente sul mercato è presente un licopeneestratto da pomodoro biologico (NOvarietà OGM e/o pesticidi) con anidride carbonicasu<strong>per</strong>critica. Il licopene biologico ènaturale al 100%, privo di residui di solventichimici e di tossicità e presenta ottime carat-
