66Problem Possible Cause SolutionenAPEX STATUS LEDdoes not switch to:red (stays off):green:Faulty connection between thelip clip cable and the unit.Defective lip clip cable.Lip clip and contra-angle fileor lip clip and separate file clipconnected too fast or incorrectly.• Contra-angle not functioning correctly.• Check whether the lip clip cable isinserted incorrectly or whether it istwisted or defective.• Clean the lip clip.• Check whether the measuring filehas been correctly inserted into thecontra-angle.• Check whether the contra-angleworks.• Repeat the activation processand wait until the message“APEX LOCATOR ON” appears.• Alternatively, repeat the activationwith the lip clip and file in the file clip,and wait until the message “APEXLOCATOR ON” appears.APEX LOCATOR ISOVERSENSITIVE – i.e.,it displays the apex tooquickly or indicates tooshort a working length.• Short-circuit due to excessfluid in the pulp chamber(rinsing solution, saliva, blood).• Direct contact between fileand gingiva/ gingival proliferation,i.e. in cases with fracturedmetal crowns.• Direct contact between fileand metal restoration work(crowns, parapulpal pins,amalgam fillings).• Lateral root canal.• Immature canal with largeapex.• Dry the access cavity using an airblower or a cotton ball.• If heavy bleeding is present, waituntil bleeding has been successfullystopped.• For isolation:- Adequate tooth build-up- Electrocauterisation• Insert a <strong>dental</strong> dam.• Use the protective silicon cover onthe contra-angle.• Carefully widen the access cavity;add flow <strong>com</strong>posites for isolationpurposes if necessary.• Repeat length determinationprocess.• Precise results not possible.
