55RECIPROC Reverse Function(for VDW RECIPROC ® Instruments)This factory preset function (see details in Chapter7.4.5 MENU: Device Settings) enables more comfortablework and uses audible signals to alert theuser to the following events or necessary actions:• A low, fast beeping sound indicates increasedstress along the entire length of the instrument. Itis therefore necessary to enlarge the canal withlateral brushing motions. This will reduce thestress on the instrument.• A higher, slower beeping sound indicatesan even higher stress on the instrument. Themicro-motor will therefore switch automatically tocontinuous clockwise rotation in order to releasethe instrument. Once the foot pedal has beenreleased and pressed again, the micromotor willchange back into reciprocating mode. It is nowessential to brush laterally, to enlarge the rootcanal.NOTESUse an ISO size 10 C-PILOT ® File to checkthat the canal is not blocked. Beforebrushing, repeat the following steps:• Clean the instrument in the InterimStand.• Irrigate the canal.• Use an ISO size 10 C-PILOT ® File tocheck that the canal is not blocked. If the RECIPROC Reverse Function has beendeactivated (see details in Chapter 7.4.5: MENU:DEVICE SETTINGS), the motor will stop as soonas the factory-preset maximum torque has beenreached. If this happens, remove the file from theroot canal, clean the instrument and start over. However, we recommend that you always workwith the RECIPROC REVERSE function, as it ismore comfortable.7.5.5 Integrated Apex LocatorThe VDW.GOLD ® RECIPROC ® features an integratedapex locator for length determination of theroot canal. The apex locator can be used in 2 ways:Combined Length Determination: The workinglength is determined while the root canal is beingprepared. The micromotor and the apex locatorare thus active simultaneously (use of the VDW6:1 contra-angle and the lip clip).Separate Length Determination: The workinglength is determined manually (without themicromotor) using the file clip and the lip clip.7.5.6 The Apex Locator LED DisplayAs you are determining the length of the rootcanal, the apex locator LED display shows youthe current position of the tip of the instrument.Fig. 6 Apex Locator LED DisplayThe following areas are identified using a colourscale (LEDs):1) LED display: 3 blue LEDsArea: Median coronal canal sectionWarning Signal: Slow sound sequence2/3) LED display: 3 green LEDs/ 1 orange LEDArea: Apical section: Apical constrictionarea to apical foramenWarning Signal: Increasing signalfrequency (sound sequence). A constantbeep will begin sounding when the orangeLED has been reached.4) LED display: 1 red LEDArea: Apical foramen surpassed(overinstrumentation)Warning Signal: Very loud warning signal1234enEndo Easy Efficient ®
