46en7.2.6 BatteryThe VDW.GOLD ® RECIPROC ® runs on a nickelmetalhydride (NiMH) battery. This chapter providesall important information regarding properhandling of the battery.Battery LED IndicatorThe battery LED indicator uses threedifferent colours to display currentbattery status:Green: Indicates a battery capacity between 20and 100 %.Flashing red: The battery needs to be recharged.Battery power will be exhausted within the nextfew minutes.Before the motor shuts off, an audible alarm willsound for 22 seconds at two different frequenciesand the following message will appear:Flashing orange: The charger has been connectedcorrectly and the battery is being charged. Thefollowing message will appear on the display:Operation and Recharge TimesRecharging the battery after it has been dischargedcompletely can take up to 3 hours.If the battery has been correctly charged, it shouldhave an operation time of at least 2 hours beforeneeding to be charged again.Prolonging Battery LifeIn order to ensure long battery life, it is recommendedto always work on battery power and toonly recharge once the battery has dischargedcompletely.For optimal battery performance, the batteryshould be replaced at your service centre onceevery 3 years.WARNINGS• Never open the device yourself in orderto change the battery, as this can cause itto short-circuit. Opening the device voidsthe warranty. The battery should thus onlybe replaced by personnel at your servicecentre.• Should the device begin to leak fluidwhich might have something to do with aleaking battery, discontinue use immediatelyand send the device to your servicecentre for battery replacement.VDW.GOLD ® RECIPROC ® can be used normallywhile charging without significantly lengtheningthe time needed to recharge. The charger is strongenough to supply the micromotor with electricitydirectly.Once the battery is fully recharged, the batteryLED light will turn green again.WARNINGS• If the battery LED light begins to flashred during operation, connect the device tothe charger immediately, as the micromotorcould otherwise shut down during the procedure.• The battery warning is a HIGH priorityalarm signal.
