The transaction values the share capital of
Ansaldo Energia at Euro 1,233 million. Finmeccanica
will sell AEN at a price of Euro
Ansaldo Electric Drives (AED), 45%
held by First Reserve and 55% by Finmeccanica.
In addition, Finmeccanica will be
paid Euro 95 million in relation to a 25
year agreement licencing the use of the
“Ansaldo” trademark as well as receiving a
dividend payment of Euro 65million.
Finmeccanica will benefit from an improved
consolidated net financial position
by about Euro 330 million (pro-forma at
31 December 2010) and a capital gain net
of taxes of about Euro 450 million. Following
completion of the transaction
Ansaldo Energia will be consolidated proportionally.
The transaction will be financed with equity
for Euro 500 million, of which Euro
275 million by Finmeccanica and Euro 225
million by First Reserve, and with debt for
Euro 573 million. At closing the debt will
be split between a medium-term bank
loan of Euro 300 million and a short-term
vendor loan of Euro 273 million, the latter
being provided by Finmeccanica and to be
refinanced in the medium term through a
revolving credit facility of up to Euro 350
million.
The bank loan and the revolver will have a
Banca Imi S.p.A., BNP Paribas e Unicredit S.p.A.
hanno fornito il supporto finanziario all’operazione
sottoscrivendo finanziamenti per complessivi
650 milioni di euro a 5 anni destinati
all’operazione.
usuali condizioni sospensive e l’approvazione
controllo azionario e industriale e costituisce
term of five years, guaranteeing Ansaldo
Energia stability in its financial resources.
Furthermore the revolving credit facility
will ensure that the company has adequate
flexibility in using these resources
to meet operational needs. Ansaldo Energia
will also have access to bonding lines
for Euro 300 million to support commercial
activities.
Banca Imi SpA, BNP Paribas and Unicredit
SpA have provided financial support in
the transaction, underwriting financing
for a total of Euro 650 million over a fiveyear
term, which will be used in the transaction.
These financing facilities will be
syndicated to a pool of leading Italian and
international financial institutions.
Finmeccanica’s Board of Directors has approved
the terms of the transaction,
which is expected to be completed before
the end of the first half of 2011, once the
standard conditions have been met and
the authorisation of the antitrust authority
has been obtained.
The partnership with First Reserve enables
Finmeccanica to realise a significant
share of the value created by Ansaldo Energia,
while maintaining ownership and
operational control, and marks the beginning
of a new growth process for the company
lungo periodo in infrastrutture.
new orders than reported in the previous
two-year period.
In this context, the economic and financial
results reported by your Company in 2010
can be regarded as positive, demonstrating
that the strategies adopted are the right
ones.
The level of new orders (Euro 1,403 million,
an increase of 13% on the previous year)
keeps the order backlog at a value of about
Euro 3,305 million, equivalent to roughly
two years of production. It should be remembered
that the new orders and backlog
figures do not include an important contract
that was signed on 4 November 2010 but is
still awaiting the completion of financial
closing, for an 800 MW combined cycle
esercizio) testimonia l’impegno
Electricity Holding Company (EEHC).
medio termine (2010-2017) è stimato in circa 14GW.
THOMASSEN:
TALEA
PROJECT
> Il mix decisivo
> The ultimate mix
a camera.
AEN/PDE/ISV e R&D Ansaldo Thomassen.
1. Cross sectional drawing of the TALEA combustion system
Since environmental awareness has
become the current driver of technology
development, all gas turbine engine
producers and service providers are working to
develop combustion systems that can meet the
new stringent requirements of clean power
production.
In this context, with TALEA combustion system
is aimed at combining the technologies of two
of the major gas turbine OEMs in order to
obtain a very low emission combustor that will
increase AEN competitiveness in OSP business.
The project target is to offer the customer a
product that performs equal or better than OEM
ones at a reduced cost, by adapting the proven
and robust technology of Ansaldo annular
VeLoNox burners to GE Heavy Duty Frame Size
9E engines that is typically equipped with a can
combustion system.
In this way, Talea can be an asset both for
AEN/OSP business, as a product alternative to
OEM low nox combustion system, and for
AEN/OEM business allowing can combustor
technology to be added to AEN portfolio.
The prototype design and modelling has been
carried out under the coordination of the
PDE/OSP management platform exploiting the
synergies and the capabilities of both
AEN/PDE/ISV and Ansaldo Thomassen R&D
resources.
After the design phase an important step has
been the test of the combustion system at
actual engine operating conditions on a
pressurized test rig.
The simulated full load conditions did confirm
the low emission (single digit NOx) capabilities
of this burner without suffering from pressure
pulsations.
Finally, emission design targets were achieved,
while currently design improvements are
ongoing for the part load burner operation and
if the final product will be viable for the Frame
9E, it will be possible to apply the same
approach to different Gas turbines, thus further
increasing AEN/OSP product portfolio.
Last, but not least, the innovative mix of
technologies and expertise has been
honoured with the Ansaldo Energia
Innovation Award 2010 and successfully
contributed to the enhancement of the
OSP companies’ integration.
Turbine, which are options in the contract.
Moreover, as we speak an order for the revision
of the steam turbine rotor has been placed with
Ansaldo ESG.
The inspections of the generators and steam
turbine will be executed by AnsaldoESG. Because
of this, the contract fits extremely well within
the OSP (Original Servive Provider) strategy.
Moreover, VRA has indicated that the
combination of ATH and AESG was an important
reason to award the contract to ATH.

Energia, quale EPC contractor, da EnPlus, società
di scopo a maggioranza Alpiq, prestigiosa
società svizzera operante nel settore
dell’energia.
Autorizzato nel 2002, con una legge del Governo
italiano nello stesso anno, l’impianto
sull’ambiente.
Questa tipologia di centrali utilizza esclusivamente
gas naturale (metano) come combustibile
per produrre energia elettrica e
vapore.
The order for the turnkey construction
of the plant was assigned to Ansaldo
Energia, as EPC contractor, in February
2008 by EnPlus, the project company majority-owned
by prestigious Swiss energy
sector player Alpiq.
Authorised in 2002 with a law issued by
the Italian Government that same year, the
San Severo plant forms part of a plan to
modernise old and relatively inefficient
coal, oil and first generation natural gas
power plants with a greater impact on the
environment.
This type of power station uses exclusively
natural gas (methane) as fuel to produce
electric power and steam.
Today natural gas is the fossil fuel that delivers
the best performance and the least
centrali termoelettriche tradizionali a olio
combustibile o a carbone.
tradizionale. Questo significa, a parità
di potenza, minori consumi e minori emissioni
in atmosfera.
The San Severo combined cycle power plant
has a nominal output of 400 MWe and an
efficiency of more than 57%, against 35-
40% for a traditional thermoelectric power
plant. This means less fuel consumption
and lower atmospheric emissions to produce
the same amount of power.
Taken as a whole, the project implemented
by Ansaldo Energia, in addition to the
power plant, entailed the construction of
an underground gas pipeline about 23 kilometers
long and an overhead power line
about 5.5 kilometers long to the national
grid connection substation.
The plant has the latest automation and
control systems, designed to ensure reliable
operation in any situation.
The single-shaft configuration plant (with
both gas and steam turbines mounted on
the same shaft driving a single generator
together) consists of five main components:
• an AE94.3A4 gas turbine fired by natural
gas;
situazione.
La centrale, in configurazione “Single Shaft”
(turbina a gas e turbina a vapore posizionate
principali:
• turbina a gas AE94.3A4 alimentata a gas
naturale;
di vapore;
a partire da vapore;
• condensatore ad aria per il raffreddamento
del vapore e delle condense;
• alternatore, raffreddato a idrogeno, per la
produzione di energia elettrica.
La turbina a gas, la turbina a vapore e l’alternatore
sono stati costruiti da Ansaldo Energia
• a hydrogen-cooled alternator to generate
electric power.
The gas turbine, steam turbine and alternator
were built by Ansaldo Energia at its
Genoa workshops.
The San Severo power station uses an advanced
technology combustion system (a
DNL-Dry Low NOx type solution called
“VeLoNox TM” ) which reduces NOx and CO
emissions. Pre-mixing the air and gas optimises
combustion and reduces emission
levels to concentrations that limit environmental
impact to a minimum.
From a functional point of view, the plant
has been designed to guarantee the maximum
operating flexibility in compliance
with legal atmospheric emission limits in
all conditions, and to ensure voltage and
frequency regulation as required by the
Italian grid operator Terna.
The technology used means that the power
station needs only modest amounts of
stata tuttavia progettata in accordo a requisiti
architettonici particolari che ne hanno assicurato
un inserimento ambientale e
paesaggistico tale da valorizzarne l’impatto
visivo, contenendo altresì sensibilmente le
emissioni acustiche. L’uso esteso di pannellature
esterne a copertura degli impianti in-
and the construction of a rainwater collection
system and a filtering plant to recover
waste water (ZLD - Zero Liquid Discharge)
will deliver water intake savings of more
than 60% compared with similar plants.
Although the plant is located in an area
with no major population settlements, it
has nevertheless been designed based on
special architectural guidelines for integration
in the environment and landscape in
such a way as to enhance its visual impact
and to contain acoustic emissions significantly.
The extensive use of external
cladding to cover the industrial plants and
the careful selection of finishings, materials
and colours for the best possible integration
into the colours and natural
environment of the surrounding area, represent
the main features of the power station,
together with the green areas that
will be developed around the plant.
Plant construction will have a positive
knock-on effect for the Capitanata area as a
whole. In terms of employment, about 400
jobs were created during construction
work, peaking at 600, while about 30-40
workers will be employed directly to run
the plant, plus about 100 more in the supply
chain.
According to the forecasts prepared by
Alpiq, the high efficiency of the plant will
make the cost of the power generated competitive
and its sale at a subsidised price
dustriali, le rifiniture, i materiali e i colori, accuratamente
selezionati affinché si creasse
la massima armonia con le tonalità cromatiche
e con le prerogative naturali dell’ambiente
circostante, rappresentano la
principale caratteristica visiva della centrale,
insieme al verde che verrà sviluppato attorno
all’impianto.
600, mentre in esercizio è previsto l’impiego
2010 in funzionamento commerciale. I lavori
di costruzione e avviamento si sono costantemente
svolti nell’assoluto rispetto delle
normative e dei criteri preposti alla salvaguardia
della sicurezza e della salute dei lavoratori.
In line with the contract timing, the power
station was completed and delivered to the
customer in January 2011, but entered
commercial service in November 2010.
Construction and start up work has been
conducted in full compliance with health
and safety at work best practices.
The San Severo EPC contract is associated
with a long term service agreement covering
the main components manufactured by
Ansaldo Energia (gas turbine, steam turbine,
generator and relative auxillaries).
This 16-year contract also covers scheduled
maintenance and repair work, plus constant
remote monitoring of rotating machines
from Ansaldo Energia’s Genoa
production unit, for prompt diagnostics
based on the main operating parameters.
Alpiq’s confidence in Ansaldo Energia is testified
by the fact that a few months after
the San Severo contract was signed, the
company also secured the order to build
the Bayet power station in the French region
of Allier. The Bayet plant is technically
identical to the San Severo plant and is already
in semi-commercial service while
awaiting completion.
componenti principali fabbricati da Ansaldo
Energia (turbina a gas, turbina a vapore, alternatore
e relativi ausiliari).
in funzionamento semi-commerciale, è ora
in fase di completamento.
di tali sistemi di raffreddamento e
a garantire la più completa sicurezza
Nel sito di Fukushima Daiichi sono
l’alimentazione è stata inizialmente
garantita dai diesel-generatori
di emergenza. In seguito allo
tsunami i diesel delle prime tre
unità, in esercizio, si sono bloccati.
Il calore di decadimento ha quindi
provocato la vaporizzazione dell’acqua
contenuta nei relativi reattori
con conseguente aumento di
con la perdita dell’adeguato raffreddamento
danneggiate dalle alte temperature
delle guaine ha causato la fuoriuscita
di prodotti di fissione più volatili
quali i gas nobili iodio e cesio.
The Fukushima Daiichi site has six
BWR Units. Table 1 below gives
each unit’s characteristics and condition
before the earthquake
struck.
As the national electric grid had
been damaged by the earthquake,
power was initially provided by
emergency diesel generators.
After the tsunami, the diesel engines
in the first three units, which
had been operating correctly,
stopped working. The decay heat
then caused the water contained
in the reactors to vaporise, increasing
the pressure in the primary circuit
and resulting in insufficient
cooling of the fuel rods. The zirconium
sleeves containing the fuel
pellets were damaged by the high
temperatures, allowing the most
volatile fission products to escape,
including noble gases, iodine and
cesium. At temperatures higher
than 1,000°C, the zirconium in
contact with water oxidised and
released hydrogen. Hydrogen in
contact with oxygen in the air can
ignite at percentages greater than
4% and explode at above 18%. The
explosions reported in the upper
area of the reactor building were
presumably the result of pockets
of hydrogen produced by this
metal-water reaction, which builtup
following the venting needed
to prevent a catastrophic rupture
of the primary container due to
geno dell’aria, in percentuali superiori
al 4% può infiammarsi,
mentre sopra il 18% può esplodere.
Le esplosioni che si sono registrate
nella parte alta
dell’edificio reattore sono state verosimilmente
provocate da sacche
di idrogeno, prodotto da tale reazione
metallo-acqua. Le quantità
di idrogeno si sarebbero accumulate
in seguito agli “sfiati” resisi
necessari per impedire una rottura
catastrofica del contenitore primario
a causa dell’aumento di
pressione. La parte alta dell’edificio
reattore è una struttura chiusa
e relativamente leggera e accoglie
anche la piscina di stoccaggio
degli elementi di combustibile
esaurito.
Per cercare di riattivare il raffreddamento
e ovviare ai fenomeni
descritti, si è prontamente provveduto
a ripristinare l’alimentazione
elettrica essenziale mediante generatori
mobili di emergenza e ad
iniettare acqua di mare dentro il
reattore attraverso l’impianto di
pompaggio acqua antincendio.
La mancanza di alimentazione
elettrica ha bloccato la strumentazione
In an attempt to restart the cooling
process and remedy the phenomena
described, basic electric
power supply was quickly restored
using emergency mobile generators
and sea water was pumped
into the reactor using the firefighting
water system.
The lack of electric power made it
impossible to use either the instrumentation
There may be deterioration of the
once again caused by the hydrogen
Due to long periods without cooling,
the fuel may have been damaged
Nelle Unità 1, 2 e 3 l’integrità dell’edificio
reattore è stata seriamente
danneggiata dalle
esplosioni dovute all’idrogeno,
mentre i sistemi di contenimento
primario sembrano tuttora sostanzialmente
integri; potrebbe
esserci un degrado nella struttura
toroidale delle Unità 2 e 3, sempre
a causa di esplosioni dovute a
idrogeno.
A causa del mancato raffreddamento
per periodi prolungati, il
combustibile potrebbe essersi
danneggiato in percentuale variabile
nelle tre unità e ci vorrà ancora
tempo per valutarne la reale
entità. Secondo una prima stima
dell’esercente TEPCO, basata sui livelli
di radioattività misurati, la
percentuale di danneggiamento
del combustibile per i reattori 1, 2
e 3 risulta rispettivamente pari al
55%, 35% e 30%.
Nelle settimane seguenti l’evento
Per quando riguarda le Unità 3 e 4,
si è verificato il mancato raffreddamento
agli elementi di combustibile
irraggiato nella piscina di
stoccaggio; tali elementi producono
comunque calore di decadimento
anche se in quantità
minore rispetto agli elementi del
reattore in esercizio. Il conseguente
riscaldamento dell’acqua
in piscina ha indotto processi evaporativi
1, 2 and 3 is estimated at 55%,
on the levels of radioactivity
event, the pressure inside the primary
and no further venting into
Furthermore, the pumping of
the reactor.
So far as Units 3 and 4 are concerned,
consequent heating of the water
in the pool activated evaporation
processes that reduced the water
level, exposing the fuel rods. As a
result of the high temperature, the
fuel rods deteriorated, hydrogen
was produced and radioactive
products were released. Furthermore,
by the explosions described
above, radioactivity was released
ACCIDENTS
The Japanese agency for nuclear
security, NISA, has increased the
classification of the accidents in
the four units at the Japanese nuclear
plants damaged by the
earthquake and the tsunami to
the maximum of 7 on the INES
scale. The main reasons for this
are that radioactivity continues to
be released into the atmosphere,
even if the levels are much lower
than the initial spikes, and that
the Japanese security authorities
have decided to consider the releases
from the 4 reactors to-

hanno mai indicato alcuna contaminazione
nell’aria se non quella
CLASSIFICAZIONE DEGLI
INCIDENTI NUCLEARI
L’agenzia giapponese per la sicurezza
nucleare NISA ha innalzato
al livello massimo di 7 della scala
INES la classificazione degli incidenti
alle quattro unità della centrale
nucleare giapponese
danneggiate dal terremoto e dallo
tsunami.
come fatto in precedenza.
La quantità di attività rilasciata è
stimata circa 10 volte inferiore a
quella dell’incidente di Chernobyl
che fu classificato allo stesso livello
INES. Gli eventi di Chernobyl
e Fukushima, sono simili in termini
di rilevanza per la sicurezza
(livello 7), ma sono molto diversi
per l’impatto sulla popolazione e
sull’ambiente; i rilasci di Iodio e
Cesio a Fukushima sono – al momento
– più bassi di un fattore 10
rispetto a Chernobyl, mentre le
conseguenze ambientali e sanitarie
dei rilasci sono completamente
diverse, in funzione delle modalità
di rilascio e quindi dell’ampiezza
della zona contaminata, dell’en-
gether as one accident and not
separate incidents, as previously.
The amount of radioactivity released
is estimated at about 10
times less than during the Chernobyl
accident, which was classified
at the same INES level. The
Chernobyl and Fukushima events
are similar in terms of their safety
implications (7), but with very different
impacts on the population
and environment. At the time of
writing, the releases of iodine and
cesium at Fukishima are lower
than Chernobyl by a factor of 10,
while their environmental and
health consequences are completely
different, because of the
method of release and therefore
the size of the contaminated area,
the population group involved,
and the promptness and effectiveness
of evacuation plans. The
Chernobyl accident created an
‘acute’ event in terms of radioactive
releases which, due to the
height they reached in the atmosphere,
affected a huge area. The
Fukushima Daiichi accident, on
the other hand, is characterised by
releases that continue over time
and have had a significant impact
only on the areas immediately sur-
tità di popolazione interessata,
della tempestività ed efficacia dei
piani di evacuazione. L’incidente di
Chernobyl determinò un evento
“acuto” di rilasci radioattivi che,
dagli alti strati dell’atmosfera raggiunti,
interessarono una vasta
area di territorio; l’incidente di Fukushima
Daiichi, invece, è caratterizzato
da rilasci che perdurano
nel tempo e hanno avuto impatti
significativi solo nelle aree circostanti
gli impianti.
Su richiesta del Ministero dell’Economia
giapponese, la compagnia
elettrica TEPCO ha predisposto, ad
aprile 2011, un programma per
stabilizzare in maniera definitiva
la centrale di Fukushima, prevedendo
di riportare l’impianto alla
normalità entro gennaio 2012. Tra
le attività previste entro luglio
2011 si citano: la stabilizzazione
del raffreddamento dei reattori e
delle piscine mediante il ripristino
di un circuito chiuso, la predisposizione
di adeguate strutture di
contenimento dell’acqua contaminata,
la prevenzione del rilascio
di contaminanti radioattivi all’esterno
degli edifici in un quadro
d’incremento complessivo delle
attività di monitoraggio.
ANSALDO ENERGIA 20
segnalano margini di crescita relativamente all’area comportamentale
BUSINESS CULTURE: I RISULTATI
DELLA SURVEY 2010
BUSINESS CULTURE: 2010 SURVEY
RESULTS
The Business Culture project is the corporate climate survey
introduced by Finmeccanica in 2004 to identify the distinctive
cultural features of the various Group companies and understand
the perception people have of their own jobs and the
context in which they operate.
Conducted every two years, it represents an important business
management lever, supporting the integration and development
of a distinctive corporate identity.
Ansaldo Energia and its Italian and international subsidiaries contributed
to the 2010 survey, reporting a response rate of 63%,
which is well above the 39% of the previous Survey and also the
Group average (56%).
Of the main points of strength to emerge from the survey, worthy
of mention are job satisfaction (85.5%), satisfaction at working for
the company (87.3%), and job appreciation by superiors (75.5%),
co-workers (83.2%) and customers (80.5%).
So far as Values are concerned, the general ranking
is higher than the Group average, with a
very strong sense of belonging that is
also higher than the Group average
and represents an increase on the
previous Survey, both regarding
the company (88.5%) and Finmeccanica
(62.8%).
The perception of relationships
with customers and the market is
good and improving on the previous
Survey, while the perception of and pride
at working for Finmeccanica group is excellent.
So far as concerns areas for improvement, there are
margins for growth in the behavioural area and in particular in relation
to management style: superiors must provide adequate
feedback to their collaborators, who must be pro-active and ask
constantly for dialogue; there is also a perception that there could
be better motivation to deliver high performance.
There is also room for improvement in the Human Capital Development
and Management area in connection with: performance
management systems, training, job rotation and role enrichment.
These values are nevertheless above the Group average.
An area in which results can be improved is the organisation area,
with regard to the elimination of inefficiencies and waste, clarity
of roles, effectiveness and rapidity of decision-making processes,
effective management attitude and collaboration between Finmeccanica
Group companies.
Also with regard to change and innovation, there was a drop in
agreement compared with 2008, although the result was above
21
diritti e doveri uniti all’orgoglio di appartenenza.
e a Stefano Gianatti.
nuova costituzione, a Giovanni Giacomelli.
ORGANISATION
the corresponding Group averages.
Responding to the critical points to emerge from the
survey, our company introduced measures some
time ago that leverage human capital management
and development capabilities in particular (including
collaborator management systems, development
and training plans, key people analysis,
rewarding policies) and has undertaken the appropriate
internal efficiency improvement actions, with
the aim, amongst others, of contributing to the diffusion
of a greater sense of responsibility and respect
for one’s own rights and duties.
Responding to needs in this business period, in 2011 Ansaldo
Energia introduced several changes to its organisation.
To increase the efficiency of commercial processes, it has created
two Departments reporting directly to the Managing Director,
Giuseppe Zampini, one focusing on New Plant and Component
Units and the other on Service activities, headed respectively by
Francesco Maestri and Stefano Gianatti.
In the New Units area it was decided also to reinforce customer relationships
in the contract management area, through two dedicated
structures, one assigned to Daniela Gentile, and the other
newly created unit to Giovanni Giacomelli. The latter focuses primarily
on the management of EPC projects (Engineering, Procurement
and Construction) in new markets for Ansaldo Energia,
represented by Turkey and South Africa at the present time.
The growing importance of EPC projects has also suggested the
creation of a single Erection and Commissioning structure, which
plays a fundamental role in the plant engineering process, managed
by Enzo Borasio and reporting to the General Director Claudio
Nucci.
In response to the current delicate market situation, Ansaldo Energia
has significantly revised the structure of the Quality Department,
realigning its mission and introducing new key roles which
are essential for the management of engineering activities, the integrated
management of supplier quality systems, and the consolidation
of production process supervision capabilities.

Oggigiorno le industrie
sono caratterizzate da
una crescente complessità
sia per quanto riguarda i prodotti
che per i progetti da
realizzare.
Questi progetti necessitano della
partecipazione di un insieme di
compagnie e competenze che devono
collaborare in maniera multidisciplinare
ed integrata,
seguendo una strategia PLM (Product
Lifecycle Management) definita
come un approccio strategico
finalizzato alla gestione delle informazioni,
dei processi e delle risorse.
Questo permette di
supportare il ciclo di vita del prodotto,
partendo dalla sua concezione,
attraverso il progetto, la
realizzazione, fino alla vendita e al
service.
Queste attività altamente sfidanti
comportano l’introduzione di un
nuovo modo di lavorare, basato
sull’innovazione e sulla collaborazione
globale, sia all’interno dell’azienda
tra le differenti discipline,
che all’esterno nei rapporti clientefornitore.
Negli ultimi anni Ansaldo Energia
ha sviluppato e implementato
una soluzione PLM partendo dal
design, alla gestione delle configurazioni,
alla classificazione e
alla configurazione di prodotto,
alla gestione documentale, con
l’obiettivo futuro di estendere la
piattaforma PLM all’impiantistica
e al service. Tutte le applicazioni e
PROGETTO “INGEGNERIA
COLLABORATIVA”
“COLLABORATIVE
ENGINEERING” PROJECT
Afeature of today’s industrial scenario is the rising complexity
of both products and projects.
These projects need the contributions of a series of companies and
skills, working together in an integrated, multi-disciplinary manner
and following a PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) strategy that
defines the approach to managing information, processes and resources.
This makes it possible to support the product throughout its
lifecycle, from concept through to design, implementation, sale and
service.
These highly challenging activities require a new approach to work,
based on innovation and global collaboration, both inside the company
and externally in customer-supplier relations.
In recent years Ansaldo Energia has developed and implemented a
PLM solution covering the design, configuration management, classification
and configuration of products, plus document management,
with the future aim of extending the PLM platform to plant engineering
and service work. All business applications
and areas are based on a single platform, with
many benefits in terms of cost and organisational
efficiency.
Concept design, the first stage of the PLM platform,
is a crucial task in the entire product lifecycle,
because the choices made in this stage determine
the subsequent industrial success of a
product (or lack of it). In fact it is in this stage
that changes are possible as the product is not
yet fully defined, whereas at a later stage, every
change to remedy a bad choice becomes extremely expensive.
Which is why there is the need, during the concept design stage, to
define and manage simulation processes and data to ensure that
they are always secure and traceable by all users working in the various
disciplines.
Since 2010 the PLM ‘concept design’ task has been developed and implemented
by Development Engineering in the framework of the
Sunlight Project, created to improve skills in key areas for Ansaldo
product lines.
Known as “Collaborative Engineering”, this task has the aim of managing,
improving and speeding up multi-disciplinary design processes
in the framework of product innovation.
POWER GENERATION NEWS 1/2011
le aree di business sono basate su
una singola piattaforma con molti
benefici in termini economici e di
efficienza nell’organizzazione.
La progettazione concettuale, fase
iniziale della piattaforma PLM, è
un compito cruciale nell’intero
ciclo di vita del prodotto, dal momento
che questa fase prevede le
scelte che segnano in seguito il
successo industriale di un prodotto.
Infatti è proprio in questa
fase che i cambiamenti sono possibili
in quanto il prodotto non è
ancora completamente definito
mentre, in una fase più avanzata,
ogni variazione di progetto allo
scopo di rimediare
una cattiva scelta
iniziale diventa irrimediabilmentecostosa.
Da qui la necessità,
nella fase concettuale
del progetto,
di definire e gestire i
processi e i dati di simulazione
in modo
che possano essere sempre sicuri,
tracciati e rintracciabili da tutti gli
utenti che operano sulle diverse
discipline.
A partire dal 2010 il compito “concept
design” del PLM è stato sviluppato
ed implementato in
Ingegneria di Sviluppo nell’ambito
del Progetto Sunlight, nato allo
scopo di accrescere le competenze
nelle discipline chiave per le linee
di prodotto Ansaldo.
ANSALDO ENERGIA 24
The team of development engineers
work using know-how
drawn from models, algorithms
and data in various disciplines,
including aerodynamics, heat exchange,
mechanical integrity,
combustion, materials, etc. This
is why using this information in
multi-disciplinary processes is often
difficult due to incompatible
notation, programming languages
and IT platforms.
Hence the need to manage data
and processes in a multi-disciplinary
context.
To define this new methodology,
three pilot project have been implemented:
• Pilot 1: Data management and
optimisation for a newly designed
component (compressor
blade profiles). The disciplines
involved are
aerodynamics and mechanics,
and the goal of the pilot programme
is to manage the
process and data for the design
of a compressor blade.
• Pilot 2: Data management for
an existing component “as is”,
regards the management of a
verification process for a turbine
blade for which 3D models
are available in the company
archives, and for data
and documents to exchange
among all the disciplines involved:
aerodynamics, heat exchange,
secondary air system
and mechanical engineering.
The aim of the Pilot is comprehensive
management of the
data produced during the design
process for a cooled tur-
linguaggi informatici e piattaforme IT.
pala compressore.
• Pilota 2: Data management su un componente esistente “as is”. Riguarda
• Pilota 3: Ottimizzazione di un componente esistente “as is”. Riguarda
Work team formato da: Mauro Macciò , Stefano Santucci, Giancarlo
Costa , Davide Pinna (AEN), Marco Baroero, Marco Alemanni, Danilo Canoletta
(Alenia Aeronautica).
bine blade.
• Pilot 3: Optimisation of an existing
component “as is”, regards
the design of a turbine
blade. The disciplines involved
are heat exchange and mechanical
engineering, and the
aim of the Pilot is to fine tune
a process to optimise the cooling
system inside a turbine
blade.
The introduction of a PLM-based
approach to managing Development
Engineering data brings
numerous benefits: tangible economic
results include a reduction
in design/simulation time estimated
at about 15% and a return
on the investment by the
third year. One of the results that
is not economically tangible, but
equally important, is the capitalisation
of know-how (Design
Practices), the organisation and
management of data involved in
multi-disciplinary processes, the
reuse of approved project flows
and the definition of optimum
design solutions.
A project in this area entitled
“Product Life-Cycle Management
(PLM) in Development Engineering”
was submitted to the company
Innovation Award 2010, on
a joint basis with Alenia Aeronautica.
Work team: Mauro Macciò
(AEN), Stefano Santucci
(AEN), Giancarlo Costa (AEN), Davide
Pinna (AEN), Marco Baroero
(Alenia Aeronautica), Marco Alemanni
(Alenia Aeronautica),
Danilo Canoletta (Alenia Aeronautica).
The project won the Ansaldo Energia
Innovation Award 2010
and has been chosen by Ansaldo
Energia to take part in the Finmeccanica
Innovation Award
2010.

SOSTENIBILITÀ
IN ANSALDO ENERGIA
SUSTAINABILITY
IN ANSALDO ENERGIA
Dopo tre anni dalla pubblicazione
del Rapporto di Sostenibilità,
quest’anno Finmeccanica
passerà al Bilancio di
Sostenibilità: un passo importante
che implica l’allargamento della valutazione
a tutte le società del
gruppo e a una raccolta ancora più
dettagliata della informazioni sia
a livello qualitativo che quantitativo.
Ansaldo Energia era già stata scelta
lo scorso anno come azienda pilota
per la realizzazione del Rapporto
del 2009 e ancor più quest’anno ha
dato un importante contributo relativamente
alla valutazione etica
del Gruppo.
Quest’anno in particolare sono stati
coinvolti gli enti che si occupano di
Customer Relationship Management,
Codice di condotta, Comunicazione
e Relazioni Esterne, Salute
e Sicurezza, Acquisti e Ricerca e
Sviluppo.
Ai responsabili delle aree indicate
sono state richieste informazioni
quali-quantitative atte a valutare
il reale impegno della Società nell’attenzione
alle relazioni con i
clienti, con i fornitori, con l’ambiente,
con la realtà locale e con le
persone.
Per verificare di persona la situazione
in azienda, nelle giornate del
24 e del 25 marzo, i certificatori
della società PriceWaterhouseCooper
hanno compiuto una dettagliata
visita della nostra realtà, per
una valutazione sul campo di
quanto dichiarato. La visita si è sviluppata
nella sede di Genova
Campi, con particolare attenzione
alla fabbrica, alla sua produzione e
al rispetto delle norme di sicurezza
sia verso i dipendenti che di trasparenza
e correttezza verso i
This year, three years after publishing its first Sustainability
Statement, Finmeccanica is making the transition to the Sustainability
Report. This represents an important step forward
that extends the assessment to all group companies, with the collection
of even more detailed qualitative and quantitative information.
Last year, Ansaldo Energia was selected as pilot company for the
2009 Report and this year it has made an important contribution
to the ethical assessment of the Group, with the offices dealing
with Customer Relationship Management, Codes of Conduct, Communication
and External Relations, Health and Safety, Purchasing
and R&D involved in the process.
Managers in the above areas were asked for qualitative/quantitative
information to evaluate the company’s real commitment in relations
with customers, suppliers, the environment, the local
situation and people.
To personally assess the company situation, auditors from Price-
WaterhouseCooper performed a detailed inspection on 24-25
March, to verify the information provided. The visit began at the
Genoa Campi headquarters and there was a special focus on the
factory, production, respect for safety regulations, and transparency
and propriety with both employees and customers. The
auditors also had the opportunity to interview a sample group of
employees in order to verify their awareness of safety at work issues
and to hear their own views on the company’s main
processes.
This data will be added to the information provided by all Finmeccanica
Group companies to prepare the Sustainability Report and
determine the 2010 Sustainability Index.
Data collection, verification and interview activities entailed a lot
of work for the offices involved, but it was performed with enthusiasm,
because it represented an excellent opportunity to evaluate
essential issues for our company, including respect for the environment,
job protection, local relations, production transparency and
customer relations. The data and its analysis has maximised the
value of the work performed so far with regard to these issues, encouraging
everyone to do more to improve the level of care and responsibility
towards production and work still further.
clienti. I certificatori hanno inoltre
avuto modo di intervistare un campione
di dipendenti, al fine di verificarne
la conoscenza delle tematiche
sulla sicurezza, sulla tutela del
lavoro e di conoscere direttamente
dalle loro parole le principali dinamiche
aziendali.
I dati concorreranno insieme a

ambientale. Il sistema, brevettato
nel 2005, ha visto
l’innovativo passaggio dall’idea
originale di fiamma premiscelata
At the end of February, the seventh Finmeccanica Innovation
Award ceremony was held at the San Carlo theatre
in Naples.
Out of more than 1,000 projects submitted for the 2010 edition,
only 20 of which reached the final and were judged by an
international panel coordinated by Stanford University (USA),
one of the 2010 Innovation Awards was assigned to Ansaldo
Energia for the project: “Gas burner assembly for a gas turbine”.
The VeLoNOx combustion system was developed by Ansaldo
Energia to satisfy the strictest environmental sustainability improvement
requirements. The system, which was patented in
2005, is the product of the innovative transition from the original
idea of a pre-mixed flame supported by a diffusion pilot
flame, to that of a pre-mixed flame to reduce NOx emissions in
line with “green” standards.
As a result of this invention, Ansaldo Energia has increased its
competitiveness and consolidated its position on the power
generation market, in which the reduction of pollutant emissions
is a priority. The system delivers excellent results, reducing
NOx emissions in a huge load range, in the typical flexible
configuration needed to satisfy the strictest requirements.
Today the system is in operation in about 25 units (both new
and upgrades to existing equipment) which have logged more
than 85,000 operating hours, offering excellent performance in
numerous applications.
supportata da una fiamma pilota
a diffusione a quella di
fiamma premiscelata per ridurre
le emissioni di NOx in linea con
gli standard “verdi”.
Grazie a questa invenzione, Ansaldo
Energia ha incrementato la
propria competitività e consolidato
la propria posizione nel
mercato della produzione di
energia, in cui la riduzione delle
emissioni inquinanti è una delle
priorità. Il sistema dà ottimi risultati,
con un abbassamento
delle emissioni di NOx in una
vasta fascia di carico nella tipica
configurazione flessibile necessaria
per soddisfare i requisiti più
severi.
Oggi il sistema è attivo su 25
unità (sia nuove sia esistenti e
modificate) per un totale di oltre
85.000 ore operative, offrendo
prestazioni eccellenti in numerose
applicazioni.

CARRERAS FOR GENOA, A
CONCERT AGAINST LEUKEMIA
74.000 Euro all’Istituto Giannina Gaslini. Beneficierà
della somma in particolare l’attività
di ricerca svolta dall’U.O.S. Ematologia Clinica
inaugurare “Genova 2004 Capitale Europea
capital of Lguria after his last performance in 2004 for the official inauguration of ‘Genoa
– 2004 European Capital of Culture’. Since winning his battle against leukemia, Josè Carreras
has dedicated much of his artistic talent to collecting funds for research.
The concert included sixteen selections, with a repertoire ranging from Puccini to Leoncavallo
and from Gardel to Ribas, closing with a tribute to the traditional Neapolitan song by
Salvatore Cardiello, ‘Core ‘ngrato’.

the “Civiltà dell’amore” association.
The conference was introduced
by His Eminence
Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco,
with Maria Romana De
Gasperi.
The Cardinal, on behalf of the diocese, welcomed the “Megatons
to Development” programme as a great opportunity for mankind,
as a chance for people to come together, and as an instrument for
peace, making it possible to build a world made to measure for
people, starting in Genoa. Committee member Giuseppe Rotunno
then presented the programme to convert nuclear disarmament
weapons into fuel for use in nuclear power plants, stressing that
one important aspect of the project is the contribution of a portion
of the income generated to development projects in the southern
hemisphere.
The trade unions reiterated the importance of the jobs created by
the project and the resulting cost reductions for Italian SMEs. The
know-how created could act as a stimulus for other production
sectors too. In this framework Genoa represents a leading technology
center of excellence in the sector and there is general support
for the project, also for reasons of greater Italian energy independence.
Ansaldo Nucleare Managing Director Roberto Adinolfi dwelt on
the contributions made by nuclear plants to reducing the risk of
proliferation and Alessandro Clerici provided an overview of the
nuclear situation in the world and its repercussions for Italy.
The aim of the organisation is to raise the awareness of national
and international authorities, not least the IAEA International
INTEGRATED ANALYTICAL
MODEL LIBRARY
LIMA(TM) (Libreria Integrata Modelli
Analitici) è una libreria di modelli implementati
in Matlab / Simulink per la
simulazione di un impianto a ciclo combinato
o di sue parti, sviluppata in Ansaldo Energia
e liberamente disponibile al suo
interno. Lo strumento può essere utile, ad
esempio, per studi di flessibilizzazione, per
testare nuove strategie di controllo, per analizzare
un trip, per test specifici richiesti dal
cliente: i moduli sviluppati sono orientati a
riprodurre il comportamento dinamico del
componente, mantenendo comunque una
ragionevole precisione nei valori stazionari.
Diversamente da altri strumenti commer-
Library) is a library of models implemented
in Matlab / Simulink to simulate a
combined cycle plant or its parts, developed
by Ansaldo Energia and freely available
in the company. The tool can be used
for flexibilisation studies, to test new control
strategies, to analyse trips, or to test
specific customer requests: the modules
developed are designed to reproduce the
dynamic behaviour of the component,
while maintaining reasonable stationary
value precision. Unlike other commercial
tools, the library is fully inspectible and editable,
as it has been
developed in its entirety
by Ansaldo Energia.
Each module
has a brief online
description of the
inputs, outputs and
main functions (see
Figure 1 - examples
of a configuration
with more detailed
documentation
available as a separate
file.
The library covers
the main plant components (gas and steam
turbines, heat exchangers, condenser,
pumps, etc.) and several regulation modules
inspired by the ABB INFI 90 language,
complementing those available in
Simulink: these modules have been used to
più dettagliata, disponibile come file
separato.
La libreria comprende i principali componenti
di impianto (turbine a gas e a vapore,
banchi scambiatori, condensatore, pompe,
ecc…) e alcuni moduli di regolazione ispirati
al linguaggio ABB INFI 90 che completano
quelli già disponibili in Simulink: questi
moduli sono stati utilizzati per realizzare i
modelli di impianto di Sparanise/Rizziconi
(vedere Figura 2 – Modello di Rizziconi (livello
principale)), di Rosignano, di S. Severo e
la sola caldaia di Turano, tutti comprensivi
delle regolazioni associate.
LA LIBRERIA
La libreria è stata sviluppata nel linguaggio
di programmazione Simulink, versione
2007b. Tale linguaggio è stato scelto perché
• è conosciuto in azienda;
• è uno standard industriale de facto: molti
software di simulazione o calcolo hanno
un qualche tipo di interfaccia da/verso
Matlab/Simulink;
• permette di generare modelli real-time.
Attualmente la libreria contiene queste
classi di componenti:
• componenti di caldaia (surriscaldatore,
evaporatore, surriscaldatore…);
• condensatore ad acqua e ad aria, pompe;
• valvole e attuatori di vario tipo;
• turbina a gas (AE64.3a4, 94.3a2, 94.3a4) e
sezione di turbina a vapore;
• modello per accumulo di calore nel metallo
di turbina a vapore;
• generatore (modello basato su equazione

the associated regulation systems in all
cases.
THE LIBRARY
The library has been developed using version
2007b of the Simulink programming
language. This language was chosen because:
• it is known in the company;
• it is a de facto industrial standard: many
simulation and computation packages
have some form of interface to/from
Matlab/Simulink;
• real-time models can be created.
At the present time the library contains
these component classes:
• boiler components (superheater, evaporator,
etc.);
• water and air-cooled condenser, pumps;
• various types of valves and actuators;
• gas turbine (AE64.3a4, 94.3a2, 94.3a4)
and steam turbine section;
• steam turbine metal heat accumulation
model;
• generator (model based on swing equa-
di swing e modello del 3° ordine), regolatore
di tensione, clutch;
• componenti tipici dei sistemi di regolazione
(quali APID, RUNG, qualified OR,
rete Lead/lag, switch bumpless e altri);
• alcuni modelli semplificati di turbina a vapore
e turbina a gas e relativi regolatori;
tion and 3rd order model), voltage regulator,
clutch;
• typical regulation system components
(APID, RUNG, qualified OR, network
lead/lag, bumpless switch and others);
• several simplified steam and gas turbine
models and relative regulators;
• a collection of machine and regulator
models to study power grid stability
(sometimes referred to as “IEEE models”).
These components have been validated by
comparison with the results of the performance
calculation programmes available
in Ansaldo (APC 2.0, HT452,
GateCycle), with the Modular Modeling
System dynamic simulation software, with
results provided in literature, and with San
Severo field data; this last validation will
per lo studio della stabilità della
rete elettrica (talvolta denominati “modelli
Tali componenti sono stati validati confrontandoli
con i risultati dei programmi di
calcolo performance disponibili in Ansaldo
have to be continued with data from other
plants, because the quality of the measurements
was not optimal.
The following improvements/evolutions
have been planned:
• implementation study for a real time
model that also includes the steam generator;
• improvement of gas and steam turbine
models;
• verification of the possibility of using the
Simulink SimPowerSystem toolbox, a library
containing models of components
that belong to the electric domain;
• a new validation campaign with field
data;
• transition to the new version of Matlab/Simulink.
POWER GENERATION NEWS 1/2011
gas e turbina a vapore
• Verifica della possibilità di utilizzo del
toolbox Simulink SimPowerSystem, contenente
modelli di componenti in ambito
elettrico
• Una nuova campagna di validazione con
dati da campo
• Passaggio alla nuova versione di Matlab/Simulink
APPLICAZIONI
applicazioni operative:
• Uno studio per verificare la possibilità di
mantenere il turbogas in condizione Full
Speed – No Load in caso di trip turbina a
vapore e bypass indisponibile, invece di
causare anche il trip turbina a gas
(impianto di Turano, vedere Figura 3 – Estratto
della simulazione di indisponibilità
bypass (Turano) – confronto con Modular
Modeling System).
e caldaia.

APPLICATIONS
The library has already been used profitably
in several operational applications:
• a study to verify the possibility of maintaining
the gas turbine in Full Speed - No
Load conditions in the event of a steam
turbine trip and bypass not available,
rather than also causing a gas turbine
trip (Turano plant, see Figure 3 - Extract
of ‘bypass not available’ simulation (Turano)
- comparison with Modular Modeling
System);
• a real time gas turbine simulator used by
the service unit to adapt an AE94.3a2 gas
turbine regulator for use with the
AE94.3a4+ (Ravenna 2 plant);
• study of the contribution made by the
steam turbine to secondary frequency
regulation (San Severo plant).
At the present time work is under way to
verify whether or not it can be used as a
tool to analyse plant sootblowing procedures
(the preliminary results are reported
in Figure 4 – Pressure trend during soot-
CONCLUSIONI
La libreria sviluppata si presenta relativamente
completa, e comunque in futuro
interesse contingente. È già stata utilizzata
con risultati soddisfacenti in alcune applicazioni
di commessa non banali: si propone
quindi sia come strumento di progettazione
che di verifica delle soluzioni hardware (ad
esempio dimensionamento valvole) e software
(regolazioni) implementate sulla singola
commessa.
Figura 5. Possibili risposte di modelli a fronte
dell’andamento reale
Figure 5. Possible model responses to real trends
blowing).
There are also plans to use the library for
several plant flexibility studies, particularly
regarding the assessment and management
of steam turbine and steam generator
thermal stresses.
CONCLUSIONS
The library developed is relatively comprehensive
and in the future it will continue
to be maintained, expanded and
constantly validated against feedback
from the field. Being entirely conducted
by Ansaldo, development can be oriented
towards special areas of contingent interest.
It has already been used with satisfactory
results in several non-banal job
applications, and therefore represents
both a design and verification tool for
hardware solutions (valve sizing, for example)
and software solutions (regulations)
implemented for individual
contracts.
