CRÓNICA DE UN NIÑO SOLO
Chronicle of a Lonely Child
sorveglianza all’interno dell’infermeria.
in cella d’isolamento.
e liberato dalle precedenti coordinate spaziali (…),
Polín is a young boy who lives in a strict Buenos Aires reformatory.
Obsessed with escaping, he pretends to be sick one day in
order to take advantage of the infirmary’s looser surveillance.
But his trick is discovered and Polín is punished. However, he
does not obey his punishment and is hit by Fiori, one of the
strictest and cruelest teachers. He rebels and hits Fiori back. For
this, he will be taken to juvenile court and sentenced to isolation.
But Polín manages to escape and return to his “villa,” the neighborhood
of shacks on the edge of the city, where he meets up with
his childhood friend Fabián, a pimp with a white horse.
“The key word to these films is ‘Composition’; their aesthetic is
based on the constructivist conception of the image and the story.
In this sense, Favio’s films are ‘Bressonian’, not only for the
importance given to the mise-en-scene, but for the fact that there
is something bigger in question than set design. The mise-en-scene
is a combination of the set design (bare, precise, geometrical),
framing and editing, which constructs a space that is fragmented
and liberated from previous spatial coordinates (...) through which
Favio creates the suffocating feel of the first part of the film.”
